Q&As

A great website has compelling content that is clear, effective and accessible. The user should be able to float through the website with relative ease, navigating to the information that’s important to them.

Some initial questions may include:
What are your goals?
What is your timeline?
What is your budget?
Who is your audience?
What does the competitive landscape look like?
What distinguishes you from your competition?
What are your unique challenges or limitations?
How do you perceive yourself?
How do others perceive you?
How do you communicate with your audience?
What strengths may be hiding under the surface?
What are the opportunities?

It’s important to understand the scope of work, the budget, and the business’s goals in order to tailor an approach that makes the best use of time and resources. Understanding the audience, the timeframe and other unique challenges or limitations is also very important.

I cater for a wide range of printing projects that includes and is not limited to business stationary, visual identity systems, packaging, brochures, reports, comprehensive planning documents, marketing, direct mail, environmental graphics, signage, vehicle graphics, and displays.

The beginning of a project is filled with learning and investigation. It’s important to understand the business and the problem in order to create a roadmap to a successful solution. Early discovery turns into objectives that help guide the project. Typical projects involve a round of initial concepts, followed by a round or two of refined concepts based on an established direction (this may vary depending on the type of project). Then, work may include production and extension of the design to additional projects or components.

It’s always interesting to start a project without a preconceived idea for the visual solution. I trust the process, and it leads to something that once didn’t exist. I love that. I love the challenge, and I love being introduced to new businesses and industries. I also enjoy building relationships with the clients as we move from point A to point B. It’s fun to breathe life into a brand for a business or product that at one point may have only existed as a scribble on the back of a napkin.

I like viewing my surroundings through a design filtered lens. Design has always been a part of me, and owning my own practice feels natural. The transition from agency to personal practice seemed very organic. When Fetch began, albeit under a different name, I was relocating to a new city. I was well equipped to start my own business based on the experience I had gained up to that point.

Regardless of the problem or the audience, good design matters. It affects our experiences and perceptions. I work thoughtfully and strategically to get to the core of the challenge, and follow a process that reveals honest and effective solutions.
