Myself and my boyfriend were down from Newcastle for New Year, we first decided to stop for some food at the Duke of York, the food was amazing and one of the best steaks we ever had! The service and staff were excellent so we decided to get tickets for the New Year's Eve party and what a great decision! We had an absolutely fantastic night! Went for a Christmas meal on Monday at the Duke of York and there is not one bad thing I could say. First greetings were warm and welcoming, waitress Demi was friendly and was really good with the 3 gentlemen I was with, they have a learning disability and she made them comfortable and made conversation with them. Also joining in their banter. Food was amazing definitely recommend! We had the Yorkshire meats topside and the honey glazed roast gammon, clean plates all round! 5 star! We went on Saturday for the steak night and it was tremendous. The food was exceptional and the staff were really friendly. The atmosphere in the pub was good, the place has changed management in the last few months but the managers that are in now have it as a village pub should be. Went on a Thursday evening with friends for diner. Warm welcome. Pub was fairly quiet. I had the crab macaroni for main, which was very tasty and cooked well, now ever the portion was quite small for a main course and needs to be a larger portion and would be nice to have some toasted crusty bread with it

The pub is now under new management, Francis (chef) and Karen , they have changed the menu and it was the tastiest food I have had a long time ALL home cooked and piping hot.
All the staff are friendly and helpful especially Zack. A lovely cozy feel and atmosphere on a cold day sat let in front of the log burners. We are really looking forward to back real soon.
