I am a professional artist based in Awbridge, Hampshire and have used the services of Dovetail Framing (Jonathan Birch) for a number of years, as have many of my fellow artists in the area. Firstly, the quality of Jonathan's work is of a very high standard - two of the important measures of this are precision mount-cutting and perfect corner joints in timber frames; Jonathan excels at these.Equally important are the care and customer service that he brings; I don't expect there ever to be a problem with his work, but if there was, I know he would pull out all the stops to put things right. I used Dovetail framing because I needed my animal pastel portraits to be safely transferred from studio to framing gallery.
For me the initial attraction was the fact that the framer came to me.
However after working with Jonathan on my first 2 pictures I now would not use anyone else. The whole experience was very interactive and inclusive, mounts and frame samples were spread around the table and we discussed and narrowed down and discarded until we found the perfect combinations. There were no distractions of other customers coming and going or a phone ringing or being in the way of someone else needing to be served. It allowed for a relaxing and fully focussed experience.
Jonathan has a world of experience and really knows his stuff. My paintings were hand delivered just over a week later and out of normal office hours to suit me and they were exquisitely and beautifully professionally framed. My pastel painting in particular was very sensitively framed and when it was completed it looked absolutely incredible.

This is a great bespoke framing service which allows you to make frame and mount choices in your home and actually see things in situ before you make the final decision.
Jonathan is friendly helpful and extremely knowledgeable and provides an unpressured, professional service.
I have had huge photos and a poster framed and have been delighted with the results.
Everything was delivered back to me at no charge and carefully wrapped.
Pricing is very fair for such a great service.
Recommended for all framing.

What do you love most about your job?
I love getting out and visiting customers in their homes, studios and offices. Because Dovetail Framing is a home-visit business, this is the ideal opportunity to see where customers are going to be hanging their artwork and to make sure that the materials I suggest are just right. I also enjoy delivering work back to customers, and seeing the final result hanging in their home.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I retired in 2014 after a career in the police service and wanted a complete change. The chance to do something creative was an important factor, coupled with the desire to work collaboratively with like minded people.
Why should our clients choose you?
When you entrust your treasured possessions to a framer, you need to be sure they’re qualified and experienced enough to handle your work properly. As a Fine Art Trade Guild Certified Framer, I have the training, qualifications and experience to advise you effectively and to carry out the necessary work to the highest standards.

No, the service is provided via home and studio visits, or if clients prefer, by visiting me by appointment at my workshop.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
COVID-19 is still an issue, and although I don’t wear a face covering as a matter of course, I am more than willing to do so if it makes a client feel more comfortable during a consultation.
Bespoke picture framing
Visiting customers at their home, office or studio, showing a range of samples and assisting them to make the correct choice. Artwork is then taken to our workshops, completed and returned to the customer at a convenient time. There is no charge for home visits or deliveries.
Ready made frames
Making up frames, mounts, glass and backing to the customer's specification for them to complete the final finishing at a time convenient for them. This is particularly popular with artists and photographers who like to keep a stock of frames available for immediate use.
