Q&As

For a web design to be effective, and a worthwhile investment of your time and money, the process should first and foremost have your business goals in mind. It’s not enough that it looks good, it has to work hard to help your business grow. Whether you’re looking to increase sales leads, raise more donations, or sell more products, those business objectives must be key factors in the design process. After all, it’s no good your visitors thinking, “What a lovely looking site, but what exactly do they do?”

A great website offers an excellent user experience. So you have a site focused on achieving your business goals, but that counts for nothing if the design offers a lousy user experience. If you visit a website that is difficult to navigate or where information is hard to find, you’re unlikely to go back to it again, and your prospective customers are no different. A site interface must be intuitive, gently guiding users to the information they need exactly when they want it.
Your content must be well-organised, easy to find, and written in plain language. And your site must have a sense of personality, it may even be fun, because no one wants to get stuck with the dull guy at a party.

You'll want a website which is visually attractive and engaging. One way to provide an enjoyable web experience is to offer a site that is visually engaging. You may not always be able to explain why something is attractive, but you know it when you see it. Whether you want to present your organisation as calm and dependable, or energetic and fun-filled, expert use of elements like colour, typography, layout, and photography are essential in making your site appealing and memorable.

When choosing your web designer, look at their previous work and assess whether the sites they have produced are visually appealing, reflect the personality of the organisations they’re designed for, and successfully supports their client's brands. It’s no good having a beautiful looking website, that offers a wonderful user experience, and supports your business goals, if nobody ever sees it. The harsh truth is, if you build it they will not just come. If your site is to offer a good return on investment, people need to be able to find you on Google and the other search engines.

Make sure then, that the web company you select can produce a website that uses clean URLs (page addresses), and include appropriate meta and structured data so that search engines can easily index your content and associate it with search terms. Your site will also need to contain relevant, informative content that is rich with keywords, and offers visitors information of value.

If you’re launching a new site, or selling online, it may also be worth considering online advertising to build awareness. Pay-per-click (PPC) advertising such as Google AdWords, Facebook Ads, and LinkedIn ads can bring a lot of targeted traffic to your door. For e-commerce, Google Shopping, display adverts, and retargeting can also be hugely effective. It can grow or change as your business does. A great website should make it easy to change content. It should also be scalable and allow for new sections and functionality to be added without requiring major redesign work.

It should also be built on non-proprietary frameworks that allow you to move it to the hosting service or web agency of your choice whenever you wish. Some companies use their own content management systems which means you need to go to them whenever you want changes and moving to another agency will require a new website.

You should consider your website to be an evolving thing, changing as the needs of your users change. Rather than creating a site which doesn’t change for three years and then undergoes a major redesign, consider ongoing iteration — it will lead to a site better tailored to purpose and, in the long run, will be more cost-effective for you.

Step 1. Decide What You Want
The first step is to consider what you want to achieve with your website. Take a look at our three options and decide what is best for you and your business right now. We can always expand the site later, as your business grows.

Step 2. Show Us What You Like
The second step in the design process lies with you: we need to know what you like in a website. We’ll ask you to find some websites you'd like to emulate. Consider the navigation menus (do you want horizontal vs. vertical) and where do you want them? Think about the images you’d like to see (photos, illustrations, any graphics). What colours do you like? Fonts? And what type of layout appeals to you most? Where do the elements fall on the page? Is it a busy look or more sparse and clean? Do you want a background? Music? Photo Albums? A logo? Artwork? Will you write the content (copy)?

Discovering what you like and don't like is quick and easy. It’s FUN, we love it, and we think you will too. We can complete any part of the process you wish, such as copy, logo, artwork, photo and video editing, whiteboard and explainer videos. And if you have no idea what it is that you want, we can make suggestions and create draft versions too.

Step 3. Let’s Collaborate on the Design
After we’ve heard from you regarding the basic design elements you're looking for, we create a mockup. This part of the process involves some back and forth emails as we fine-tune the design for you. We’ll pop it onto the internet and you’ll be able to see it live. Please give us open feedback, it’s the only way to work together. If you don’t like something... tell us! This is the time to polish and fine-tune the design so that it's exactly what you want.

Step 4. We Build the Website
Once you're happy with the final design, you're done! We put the pieces together, and in a few days, your new website will be on the Internet ready to be viewed by the world! How exciting!

Our love for all things digital began in 1988 when we began creating daily programs, maps and port information for cruise lines. In those days we were working on a computer than only had two floppy disc drives. Our first hard-drive was just 20 megabytes! We’ve come a long way since then. Today, we help clients to create websites, publications, digital presentations, databases, worksheets, portfolios, videos and a variety of sales tools. Our artistic flair and understanding of marketing, sales and commerce have provided us with a unique ability to generate exciting sites which eye catching and commercially functional. We’ll be dedicated to providing you with the website you’ve dreamed of.

“Do It All for Me” eliminates the headaches of learning how to build your own website and agrees a fixed price, with no need to pay further monthly bills (you’ll pay for your domain and server direct, and we’ll even provide you with a copy of the web-building program so that you can maintain the site yourself (if that’s what you want). You’ll be in control every step of the way. Your site builder will be in touch via your choice of communication (skype, telephone or email) to discuss the needs and requirements of your site. Let’s get started!

Today, there are a huge number of website building services to consider, but they can be confusing and time consuming. You could buy software and do everything yourself, but this can be time consuming and often very frustrating. Every day that you’re not online you could be missing out on new customers and increased sales. At the other end of the web building spectrum you’ll find online providers who offer web-based programs so that you can drag and drop images and text into templates, but they’ll charge you an on-going monthly fee... Forever!
