Have tried several kennels around York but Derrings is by far the best. They take great care of the dogs and mine is always in great condition when I pick him up. My only criticism is the very inefficient booking process which often requires multiple emails and phone calls and can take several days to confirm a place. More...

First class kennels, best I have ever seen, highly recommended .I was impressed when shown around the kennels for the first time and I have to say that service and standards have remained consistently high since that first visit. I have 2 Labradors who are my pride and joy and I have been using Derrings kennels now for 5 years since we moved to the area. Whilst we know this is a business the main aim of Derrings is the welfare and happiness of the dogs. No matter how busy they are when you arrive to drop off or collect your dog you are given their full attention and given a quick rundown on how your dog has been during their stay. The premises are immaculate, beautifully converted stable blocks with heating and music which are kept in pristine condition and a massive exercise area for them to run and play in. My dogs don't give me a backwards glance when they go running off with one of the girls and I know that if one of them is taken ill when I am away I can trust Adrian and the girls to take the appropriate action. No, they are not the cheapest in the area but you definitely get what you pay for at Derrings. Being able to drive away and go on a 2 week vacation with the peace of mind of knowing my dogs are loved and as well cared for as if they were at home is something I cannot put a price in. More...

WE live near the kennels, and have used them exclusively for our (now) elderly Lab/Staffy mix dog. She seems to like it there, and we have always found Steve and his committed staff to be caring and devoted to the welfare of their boarders. We have 2 Shar Pei dogs and all the challenges that this breed incur. Derrings Kennels were recommended to us and after doing our homework and a site visit decided to leave our dogs in their care during our holidays. The kennels are very clean and immaculately maintained. That was 5 years ago. The dogs go to the kennels not only with their food but the medications, potions and lotions that they take. Our older dog suffers from Shar Pei Fever which can be brought on by stress at any time but in all the visits (total 15 weeks) to the kennels he has never had an attack whilst boarding, so we know its a stress free environment.The dogs are very well looked after and all the staff adore them, when they go off to the kennel they never look back at us! We choose to have them walked 4 times a day and when they return they are always in top condition.All the staff are very helpful even when we make the odd phone call or two to see how the dogs are doing. Delivering and picking up the dogs requires planning because of their opening times but this is no hardship and can only be better for all the other dogs staying there. Whilst we have not compared prices with other kennels We never feel that we have over paid, after all the dogs welfare are our main concern.Derrings Kennels are highly recommended.10 out of 10. I couldn't leave my dog with anyone I didn't trust. Without Derrings Kennels I would be lost. I have taken my Retriever there for 7 years for both day boarding and holiday breaks. The Staff, surroundings and service you receive are excellent. Thank you for giving me peace of mind that my dog is looked after in the best possible way. Would recommend to anyone. More...

My dogs love staying here, they get excellent care, secure clean accommodation, lots of walks, fuss and attention. The staff are a professional and caring team who clearly love dogs. Particularly impressed with the attention given to the prevention of communicable diseases such as kennel cough. I have been taking my two Labradors Talisker and Oban to Adrian and the team on and off over the last 5 years - whenever I have been in the area. The setting is lovely, the team enthusiastic and the boys always love their stays - the only thing reducing my usage now is being located in London, although I have driven all the way up and back to use Derrings from here - what better recommendation could you have!! Derrings kennels are by far the best we have experienced and would thoroughly recommend them. We have used numerous kennels over the years but found Derrings when our black labrador was just a puppy 3 years ago and she has been going very regularly every since. Our dog is very happy going to the kennels and indeed, whines when she comes home! The kennels are spotlessly clean and all personal instructions on the care of our dog are followed to the letter.
