So “what is the secret to taking a great photograph.” There are really no “secrets” but it is helpful to have a “good eye” to see what makes a good picture even before it is shot. Perhaps one of the biggest so called secrets is to take some time to study how to use a camera well and understand what possibilities it can provide to you. A great tip I tell people who are interested in photography is use a tripod when ever possible. It gives the camera a steady platform that no one can match by hand holding it eliminating movement and blurring. I know it seems to be a pain but if you want to put a beautiful scene from your your vacation on your wall for instance you won't regret the extra time. Also, be well aware of the lighting surrounding whatever it is you may be shooting. For instance if you are shooting someone with the sun close to the side of the subject it will darken the face and you will only see their profile at best. Extra light must be used wether it is by a flash, reflector or other means to be able to see the subject along with the beautiful background the way your eye can see it.
