What makes a great website?
A great website depends entirely on what the website is set out to achieve with the view of how the users may interact with it. However a great website should have these features;
1. Good site structure.
2. Site layout should not be cumbersome.
3. Texts and fonts should be very legible and clear.
4. text to image ratio should be well thought out.
5. Should be able to view on multiple devices without the need for the user to zoom.
6. The Web server should be able to load pages quickly when a user requests it.
These are some of the common points that may make your website look great
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
It depends on how technically gifted the client is but let us assume they are not, I may ask the following;
1. What do you need a website for?
2. What do you want the website to do for you and its audience?
3. Do they have an example of a competitor website?
4. What type of website do they like interacting with?
5. Would they be selling on the website?
6. Do they have access to graphic materials if not do they have a graphic designer?
7. Do they know laws surrounding managing a website, Do they have access to legal policies i.e terms of use of the website, terms of service, privacy policy?
8. Do they have a marketing budget?
9. How many visitors may they anticipate to their website?
10. Do they have a web hosting package?
11. Would they like to update the site periodically themselves or they may want a professional to help with this
12. How involved they want to be in the design process;
a. Very involved
b. Involved
c. Sparsely involved
d. Just get on with it
Describe your creative process.
The process may vary but these are the steps a web designer should follow;
1. A business analysis of the project
2. Assign a project manager, a copyrighter, a web design and development team
3. Websites layout and Structure is planned
4. Sends it for review by the Client
5. Client reviews and sends back with comments
6. The website is developed.
7. The Copyrighter produces website contents, page by page
8. Sends to Client for review
9. The client sends back to review with comments
10. Web developer inputs material
11. The website will be tested by like-minded audience
12. We receive comments from testing, apply them.
13. Launch website on Clients orders
Or We could just manage the whole process if the Clients just wants me to be creative
What information do you need from a client before you can start work?
Normally nothing but for professional purposes, copyright contents, graphic material, web hosting access and deposit.
