Easily one of the more in-depth and intelligent approaches to business and life. Pete specifically adopted me and my group as if we were part of his family providing at times tough love but the honesty we needed at exactly the right times during our expansion. Sometimes employees, managers, executives and investment groups are too close to a problem within an organization to recognize it. That's where we were, and despite being industry veterans at that time, in came Pete riding his white horse to save the day (I'm joking). By the way, he is not stuffy but fun adding humor and light to some challenging situations, something I truly respect and value in all dealings. He is humble, very honest, straightforward and thorough. Being a dozen or so years older than Pete, I can say his best skill is his ability to listen and then create something like an artist would, something we had inside of us but just couldn't quite paint or create. He also knows when to push and also when to pull, and trust me, a few people in my group learned quite a bit from that approach and we have worked with other larger consulting groups and leaders. In short, I highly recommend networking Pete and his team. Part of his teams work is why I reached a comfortable and early retirement even though I am still active in the greater industry. If you like a straight-forward, honest approach, I would trust every ounce of input Close To Open Consulting provides. They are great people and our results were fantastic. Sincerely,Steve R. More...

A person's success in life can usually be measured by the number of uncomfortable conversations he or she is willing to have with self and with other professionals. Close To Open Consulting brought light to things completely off our radar, mine included. Peter was on premise for three month's participating in daily activities and supporting our entire team. He is fun, out-going and absolutely loves people. He brought in two of his team members for five days each and they carried the same passion and genuine care in approach. Peter constantly would tell me, "life is too short to be small." He encouraged my partner and I to dream a big dream and to break some habits we didn't know existed. That's the tough discussion he is willing to have with his people and those that employ him. He is honest and on point, regardless if we were ready to hear it or not! You don't know what you can't see! What we fear doing most is usually what we most need to do! We all develop blind-spots and often surround ourselves with people who tell us only what they think we want to hear. Being able to quit things that are not working is integral to being successful, and knowing when to change course is not exactly easy. Hiring a coach or a consultant is the best thing we ever did. You read about how important it is, and you see it working on television, but until you step out of your comfort zone and do it, you will never know. We learned to be productive rather than busy, and following Close To Open recommendations, we cut our work weeks in half and started to generate larger profits. As investors that was huge, and we were able to buy-out a third party partner by working less! I believe Peter called this "focusing on the wildly important," and the numbers do not lie. Peter stressed that being overwhelmed is as unproductive as doing nothing! Being selective - doing less - is the path of the productive. Focus on the important few and let your people do the rest. Kind of "Zen" in a sense. Peter is insanely smart, and extremely humble. He tells you what you need to hear. He also doesn't waste time. I would recommend him specifically and his team of experts in our experience were incredible too! More...

I’ve known and worked with Pete for just a short amount of time, so perhaps I can speak to what to expect from the get-go. Pete is genuine, easy to talk to, has a wealth of knowledge and the memory of an elephant! Most importantly he is always thinking about ideas that can help without solisitation because he genuinely cares about those he works with. Identifying solutions and how to maximize potential comes naturally to him. I’ve enjoyed getting to know, learn from, and collaborate with Pete in a short amount of time. More...

In the summer of 2013, Pete offered me the job of assistant manager/bartender at Chet’s Bar and Grill in Big Sky, MT. Although I had a few years of bartending under my belt, I had zero management experience. He chose to take a chance on me and taught me more in that summer season than any job prior. Never before had I worked for someone with such a passion and keen eye for the restaurant business. He strove to take pride in his work, which in turn pushed us all to do the same. He treated all members of the staff with respect and encouraged us all to be better at our jobs. Not only was he incredibly gifted with the art of entertaining our guests and ensuring utmost quality, but he also had a way with food and completely re-vamped the menu. It was a wonderful experience being able to work alongside a boss who truly cared for his employees and customers. Pete is a wonderful chef, boss, friend, and comes with excellent recommendations from anyone who has the pleasure of knowing him. More...

He gives honest advice, helps set realistic goals/expectations and shares the highs/lows of the industry. His experience, honesty and connections have been consistent and things I've come to depend on. Without hesitation, I recommend Close to Open Restaurant & Bar Management Consulting. More...
