What do you love most about your job?
I love seeing a problem and fixing it, perhaps when someone can't quite find the right words to express themselves and I come up with the appropriate phrase, or they've made a daft spelling mistake and haven't noticed. My greatest joy is getting positive feedback from someone whose work I've taken and polished.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I'd been a travel agent, holiday rep, and then a personal secretary. When I had twins I wanted to stay at home with them, and I'd always been good at spotting errors in books and newspapers, so back in 2002 I went on a training course to learn how to be a copy-editor and proofreader. It brushed up my English, taught me what to look out for, and helped me to use my judgement about when to change things and when to leave well alone. Since then I've also done a TEFL course, and also a Fiction Editing course. Every job is different and even after 15 years I always learn something. My skills are evolving all the time.
Why should our clients choose you?
I try to put myself in your shoes, to help you improve your message, so that what you're trying to say gets across first time to your readers. If appropriate, I give suggestions for improvements or changes, and the reasons why, and I'm always pleased to give feedback or advice. I pride myself on my honesty, reliability, and my fair prices - it makes me feel good to help writers, students, academics and business people get the best from their writing. You are the expert on your subject, and it's my job to help you get your message across effectively. It's important that the author's voice is retained - I'm not the writer, you are!
