Love this place. Very cozy. I like the good vibe here. Good service and good food as well, just a little bit over price but it's worth a good dining experience and with great ambiance. Definitely will be back sometime. This place is also good for romantic dates (it feels like it but I didn't come here for a date). Make sure to come in before the big crowd to get a table for two (small party). Unfortunately they don't take advance reservations for two, but they can accommodate you based on availability upon arrival. The bar is open seating, that's an option too. More...

My friend and I came here for dinner on a Tuesday around 6PM. There were plenty of seats when we arrived but the restaurant filled up very quickly. I recommend making a res if you can. We were not able to and decided to take a chance. There are many tables that are separate stand alone tables, but there is also a long familiar style set up in the middle of the restaurant. Charlie Bird did not disappoint whatsoever!!  We started out sharing some small plates, then we each ordered an appetizer and an entree..  I got the little gems salad with a buttermilk dressing..   simple, yummy, and tasty!!  For an entree I moved to the ribeye off the bone..   only complaint:  the serving size was more for 2 people, I couldn't finish the dish.  Lol. If you are considering this iconic place, it’s worth it. We ate al fresco. The bronzino is not to be missed. The fish is served whole with crispy and flavor that keeps developing layers of flavors in your mouth. The cappelletti was delicious. The burrata is prepared with asparagus and pine nuts; divine! This is a must-eat if you spend any time between SoHo and Greenwich! The food is prepared with such attention to detail - it is clear they take a lot of pride in their craft. We tried several plates and each was better than the last. Don't forget to save room for desert and be sure to order an Americano to go with it. Most of all we loved to staff. I had the opportunity to meet the Chef himself, Chef Ryan Hardy. His passion for food, the love he has for customers and New York is enough for me to make this one of my favorite Italian / Mediterranean restaurants in the city. An excellent lunch special with Lori Mendorff Klugman. A very pleasant surprise! Faro and Gem salads were excellent. Carbonara was very nice : pasta cooked perfectly as was crispy pancetta,  conservatively cheesed and nice egg yolk.  This is one of the better Carbonara's we had in the US.  Cocktails and wine list not extensive but adequate.  The gnocchi were disappointing and returned.  We certainly would recommend and return. Had a fantastic dinner experience. I started at the bar for a glass for wine. The bartender was extremely knowledgeable and recommended a wine for us. We then moved to our table. The server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and gave us great suggestions. Based on the reviews I read on the restaurant, the menu changed but we had some great dishes. They were out of razor clams, but we had the soft shell crab, octopus, Farro salad, cacio e Pepe and the cavatelli. We had no room for dessert, but maybe next time. Would highly recommend!! More...

I have lived in NYC for 7 years and eat out frequently and was blown away by the quality of food and level of service at Charlie Bird. I came here with my parents and brother for my mom's birthday tonight, and it was easy to hear one another while still having a fun atmosphere. We shared most things on the menu and literally every single thing was out of this world incredible.The service is also above and beyond. The Charlie Bird folks really know how to treat customers right! We had the prix fixe lunch today (one small plate, one pasta). My farro salad was fantastic, but I found the tonnarelli cacio e pepe to be too salty. I was pretty full from the very generously sized farro salad, so chalked it up to a bad match with the chef's style (though I actually think the cheese was so salty perhaps the pasta water shouldn't have been salted). The waiter saw I hadn't eaten much pasta, asked if I wanted it packed up to take home, and when I declined, asked if it had been okay. I said it was too salty for me, and he apologized profusely, asking if I wanted it remade. I said no thanks, then ordered the chocolate cake dessert extravaganza (which was to DIE for), and when he brought it, the waiter announced it was on the house. Very nice! But then to top it off, when he brought our bill, he said he'd taken the major portion of my meal off entirely!!!! That was totally unnecessary, and I protested, but he insisted. All I paid for was the farro salad, though of course I tipped appropriately. So the meal wasn't perfect, but I left with a very warm fuzzy feeling, and won't hesitate to return. I'm also happy to report that the music, though not to my taste, was at a low enough volume that it didn't interfere with conversation and could be easily ignored. More...

First, I have to say we got a great table and two glasses of Prosecco because we booked through Capital One! Besides that, I can’t remember the last time my wife and I had such a great meal in NY and I am born and raised her and work in hospitality. The service was A+ and so was the food. We came as a party of 2. Yes reservations are hard to get but definitely worth the effort! They have outside tables but this day was too hot for that. Not sure if they reserve those for walk ins?Beets: 4 stars, pretty good. I would recommend. Octopus: I didn't care for the sauce so much. Octopus itself was good. 3 stars. Pasta: we got the one with sausage. Really good, 5 stars. Rib eye? Def some sort of beef, off the bone: 4 stars but the sauce and small side were really good, so 5 starsDessert chocolate cake with olive oil ice cream/gelato & Rice Krispies: amazing. Five stars. I could have had so many of these. For two people we got two small plates, a pasta, a main, and a dessert. So yes, if you just get a pasta, you may still be hungry. Finally visited this place some time back with the lady.Had the chicken liver and the razor clams to start. Both were the standouts of the meal for me. Just a touch of iron taste was present in the liver, but the mousse and the toasts were delicious. Razor clams were super fresh and refreshing.We also got the cacio e pepe and the chicken to share. A delightful experience. Ordered the Coppa & Fava and the Burrata for our table, the Cacio e Pepe for my main, and the warm chocolate cake and strawberry panacotta for desserts. The pasta was nothing short of incredible (who can resist perfectly-peppered and parmesan drenched rustic style noodles). The small plates, while small (duh), offered a well rounded serving of all their components. Charlie Bird was an excellent restaurant with great food and exceptional service. My wife and I shared an appetizer of chicken liver mousse which was excellent. My wife had Tonarelli ca io e pepe and I had agnolotti with spring peas and morels. Both pastas excellent. Cacio e pepe was as good as what we had in Rome, no offense to Rome. Agnolotti was handled beautifully. Drank Pinot Noir which went well with the app and both entrees. But, Carlos, our waiter, was polite, informative, friendly, charming, and seemed to have a keen appreciation for and knowledge of the food and seemed to enjoy diners as well. More...

Charlie Bird has a really amazingly curated menu from the wine to the large plates.I love to go for the sea trout (which is to die for) and while I've eaten a lot of good burrata in my life, Charlie Bird's is The. I don't know how this place doesn't have 5 stars. On top of the food being absolutely incredible, the service and atmosphere is great. Sure it's a little on the pricey side, but you wouldn't go to a place like this for a "cheap meal". We got the burratta, fries, caccio Pepe and gnocchi. All 10/10. We came for drinks on a Tuesday evening Greenwich Village walkabout, and on such a beautiful day! Our bartender made us a delicious couple of cocktails (Pink Cadillac and The Last Word) and both were awesome! I like gin but don't LOVE gin and the last word is a gin drink I would order again and again, especially on a beautiful, sunny day like today! So happy to find this NY gem! We had a reservation for dinner for four on a Friday night and had a really great experience. The staff was super friendly and very helpful with our menu selections. Have to give an extra shout out to Tim, the sommelier, who is so knowledgeable and suggested several wines to pair with our food. We absolutely loved the choices and definitely recommend you let him guide your experience! We basically ordered half the menu and it was so worth it.  -Razor clams and scallops were good to try out, probably the only things we wouldn't order again-Fluke was SO tender, very good-Grilled Octopus and potatoes, delicious and cooked really well-Cacio e Pepe was truly incredible. Must order! My bf and I shared but I would definitely not share again because we were fighting for every bite. -Black Bass was the highlight of the meal. Our server suggested that over the branzino we were initially going to order and OMG. Amazing. -Brussel sprouts and carrots...vegetable sides have never been so good. This restaurant is the perfect place for Culture Vultures and appropriators to eat drink and without the inconvenience of dining next to people of color. Fine wine, delicious focaccia bread and a delicious yet pretentious and overpriced menu (tiny portions) complement this beautifully problematic establishment. The name of the restaurant according to the staff is NOT inspired by the Black musical legend but rather "New York" lol. Definitely something to witness if you visit NYC and or even live here. The not only did they play Hip-Hop only, but it's also explicit. There were no people of color in sight, except for the staff (not surprised). We came here with another couple for dinner on a Friday night and had a great experience.  In summary, the food was excellent and management was wonderful.  We had an issue where one of our side dishes didn't arrive with our food, so they comped the item for us without question and we ended up getting 2 of it because the kitchen had made 2 by accident.  They also gave us a free dessert.The razor clams were very good. I personally don't like fennel but I did not get a licorice flavor in my bites.The beets were amazing as was the cacio e pepe, which I had never had with rigatoni before. I don't particularly like lamb but had a bite of it and thought it was very tender and well prepared (though still lamby for me). I found the grilled fish to be cooked very well and was nice and flakey.It's fairly difficult to get a reservation here, but I will definitely be back! More...

It is a delicious upscale Italian restaurant. The service is very kind and will make things to your whim even if it is not on the menu. I consider myself to be a foodie and this place satisfied my cravings. Though I was a tourist, I felt like a New Yorker because the place had such a local feel and there were nothing any noisy families. However, this is an upscale place and a dinner for four with wine will cost you around 300 dollars plus tip. Not a place to eat frugally!! The price is respectable though as the food is very fancy and had perfect portion sizes. I recommend the whole branzino with the burrata appetizer. For dessert I recommend anything as all they have is delicious. My one complaint is that the music is slightly overpowering and can make it hard to hear. More...

I followed Charlie Bird on Instagram for months before my visit. The pasta pics were beautiful and inviting so I had to see for myself. I dined with my adult daughter and 2 of her friends.  Reservations are definitely recommended. The setting is intimate but seating isn't crowded. Dining has a hip vibe with a long bar in the main dining room and "bumping" background music (but not too loud). An extensive wine list is available as well as specialty drinks. The food menu is limited but has varied choices. Small plates for the table: fresh raw oysters, burrata, and citrus salad-plenty for all of us and tasty. Main dishes: cacio e pepe, gnocchi, and a pasta with a sausage bolognese sauce. All had wonderful flavors-none were too "saucy" or "over powering" seasoning.  Desserts: poached pears and another dish with chocolate and cream. Both were delicious! Wonderful small restaurant. Biggest surprise was the very sophisticated wine list. I preordered a Chassagne Montrachet and it was delivered chilled as soon as we sat down. Meals were exquisite. Had a nicely seasoned pasta with a leek starter. I am a visitor, so I don't know if you consider this Soho, but sort of a hidden gem on King Street. It is small and we had a late lunch. Came for my birthday with my husband and overall one of the best meals I’ve had in the city. I took off one star because both of the pastas we had came out served cold to lukewarm which was disappointing. Drinks: great selection of wines so we shared a bottle. I also tried the vodka basil cocktail that’s on the brunch menu and was very good. Food: Bay scallop from the raw bar (strong fish flavor) and baked clams were both great. Pasta we did the special with truffle and mushrooms as well as the pappardelle with beef short rib ragu - again the flavors were great but temperature that it was served at was disappointing. We visited Charlie Bird for brunch on a Sunday and were delighted with service and atmosphere in this cozy but sunny restaurant. The menu is somewhat limited, especially for vegetarians, but I would strongly recommend starting with the burrata with squash. The rigatoni cacio e pepe is phenomenal and I suggest that you ask for some chilli oil as well as their house baked bread. The dessert completely stole the show - a budino served with olive oil gelato on a rice krispie crumble which is one of the best I've had in Manhattan. OMG! I am actually shocked that this lace doesn't have st minimum 4 solid stars! First of all, the service was impeccable! We were greeted with warmth. We chose the bar to eat. Charlie Bird is phenomenal. We recently went to Charlie Bird with a group of 12 and did not have a reservation. We took a shot in the dark to see if we would be able to get a table. The girls in the front were very accommodating, even though it was a long shot, they still humored us and asked if it would be possible to get a table. When they returned, they did agree to sit us and were very polite the whole time! The atmosphere in Charlie Bird was fantastic, the food is amazing and the service tied it together. I am really confused about the negative reviews. I LOVED this place. We had excellent service starting with the 2 hostesses we encountered when we entered the restaurant to our waitress Eunice who was so cool.While bobbing our heads to a great mix of hip hop we started out with the burrata and diver scallops that were both very good. Actually, the diver scallops were amazing! In addition to our apps, they also bring warm focaccia bread for the table. The bread was so good, that we requested another serving. For our main courses, we had the crispy farm chicken, summer spaghetti with lobster, zucchini, and basil, zucchini blossoms, and cacio e pepe. While I am not huge on chicken, this dish was excellent as was the spaghetti. The cacio e pepe was made with rigatoni and it was good, but it's usually best with spaghetti. For dessert, we had the chocolate budino and it was a great way to end the evening. Cocktails were great, music was great, service was great....what is there to complain about? Absolutely delicious.  If you enjoy your food cooked to perfection with the right herbs and seasonings; this is an outstanding choice. My daughter had the crispy chicken and it was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Really enjoyed dinner here. Appetizers were a major MAJOR highlight and entrees were solid. For apps we had the diver scallops, razor clams, chicken liver, and burrata. All excellent but everyone especially loved the clams and, not surprisingly based on reviews, the chicken liver. Not sure all 5 of us would have agreed to order that one if not for the reviews.As my entree I had the pasta special which was bucatini (I think!) with lobster and I forget what else. It was enjoyable, just not overly inspired. I tasted my friend's cappelletti and it was also solid. But judging by the reviews and the chicken liver app, maybe the chicken entree really is the way to go! Shady and lucky partner for the evening strolled into C.B after seeing an off b'way magic show called In and Of Itself-highly reco'd. Sitting on a stoop around the corner from C.B was NY legend Patti Smith-a real New York moment. Enough of that now, off to the food..Seated in the upstairs portion of the restaurant, Shady quickly tore into a bottle of fine Bruna Italian white. with the much ballyhooed rap music playing in the background(not obtrusive at all), Shady and lucky lucky guest ordered up the famous C.B farro salad and the octopus as starters. The farro was all that it is made out to be. Shady literally shoveled as much as he could take while washing it down with the Bruna. For mains, the gluttonous twosome kept it simple and hit two pastas-cavatelli campidanese(sausage,kale and saffron ragu) and the spaghetti(w/ lobster ,zucchini and basil). Both were excellent, portions were adequate and full of flavor. The meal was topped off with a little chocolate cake and gelato and the satiated twosome were off to the next locale. I am not sure why this place does not have more stars.. I thought my meal here was excellent. This is a great date spot. We had a little table tucked in a corner that was just up some stairs. It had a great view of the restaurant but also felt private. I hate when I feel like people can hear your entire conversation. Service was great. Went to Charlie Bird for an unemployment lunch. Liked the hip-hop music because it meant the restaurant is trendy. Liked the service because it was good and attentive. Ordered the chicken liver and the gnocchi with an iced tea to wash it all down. I'm not sure how big a chicken liver is, but I'd guess this dish contains a small village of chickens. It made me feel guilty. The chicken liver was spread over toast and topped with a cherry compote. It reminded me of an earthy and umami unsweetened PB&J. But while eating a ton of peanut butter isn't, like, weird, it felt kind of strange to ingest half a pound or so of liver. It tasted good but I'd rather eat something similarly tasty that has less chicken liver. The gnocchi was really good but not too memorable. Loved Charlie Bird! I've heard the best things about this place so was excited to finally go with a friend. We sat outside on the most gorgeous June evening, split a bottle of delicious and reasonably priced wine. Their farro salad is, as everyone says, delicious and one of the best of its kind. I've been making it for lunch ever since (Melissa Clark has the recipe on NYTimes.com). My friend's taglietelle was to die for, but I was slightly disappointed in my bucatini with octopus. Went for lunch today. The good: entrees were very good- tagliatelle was awesome as was the black bass. The clam toast was yummy but very saltyReally liked the drinks as well and husband is very picky about his martinisThe bad: place was more than half empty and it took a while to place our order. I've been eyeing this place for about 3 years now. I interviewed a chef who mentioned this was her favorite restaurant so I added it to my long list of restaurants. I stopped by for lunch on a weekday and I was blown away. Everything looked so good! From the appetizers, I tried the fresh oysters, razor clams, clam toast, chilled lobster, diver scallops. My favorite without a doubt was the scallops. Just divine. I can probably live without the clam toast, it was a little too salty for me. As for entree, I got the tagliatelle- which I highly recommend. I'm already thinking about my next meal here and hopefully it'll be for dinner. That menu looks lovely. I'll be back!!!! More...

I am currently addicted to cacio e pepe. I've tried it at many different restaurants, but this one keeps coming back to my mind. They serve it with a homemade spicy sauce on the side, which is amaaaazing. I made the mistake of not remembering to eat it with the sauce until when I was almost done with the pasta, so I'll have to go back and try it the right way next time. More...

Starting with sitting at our reserved time on a busy night, we appreciated the staffs attention to getting us seated comfortably. We liked the service because so many people served us. Everyone had their assignments and it worked beautifully. It wasn't overbearing at all. Their timing of service from water, clearing each course and cleaning the table each time, to asking if we needed anything else was perfectly timed.   Now for the food. We had numerous appetizers that were outstanding.  Perfect portions. The main courses were also appealing. Its a great menu. Nice choices and prepared to your liking. Oh, and dessert was excellent. A friend took me here for belated birthday dinner last night and everything was delicious. I've walked past the restaurant for years and now I wish I hadn't waited so long! We had oysters, burrata, uni spaghetti, and papardelle. The oysters and the uni were my favorite. Dessert was also great. The restaurant is beautiful and even though it filled in towards the end of our meal, we could still hear each other speak. Hopefully I'll be able to return soon! More...

Quite good! We ordered a lot and the only complaints were that a lot of the food was too salty, and the octopus was over cooked. Other than that - service was good, wine was good, burrata was great, focaccia was AMAZING, chicken liver was good, Brussels good, and pasta was good (but not particularly memorable). And the vibe of the restaurant was cool as well. I would def recommend this establishment, but wouldn't refer to it was the "best"pasta, etc More...

Charlie Bird has done it all right. From the wine list, food menu, hiring of friendly and knowledgeable staff to simple yet elegant decor. This is a place you'll take your parents to meet your significant other for the first time. You'll take them to a place you trust in every single aspect. Where you can all be happy because of how good of an experience everything was.The service can be compared to any place in NYC, it's that good. The menu is as thought out as your college essay, it's something to be remembered. Very good lunch spot.  Went there with a couple people, which was good because it is a small plate share menu. I would recommend that if you like to try a lot of different foods. The atmosphere was pretty cool. Exposed brink wall and a new America look, it was set the stage for food that matched the vibe. The crispy chicken, cauliflower, tagliatelle, and spaghetti were fantastic. The octopus was just okay and burrata was just above okay. We sat outside in a nice crisp evening. We were seated when we arrived at 9pm on a Friday. The bumping hip hop music seems off with the fancy dinner but I kind of liked it. We ordered the Burrata, the Octopus, and the Monkfish. burrata - Delicious! I loved it on top of the pumpkin and hazelnut. Order! I couldn't stop eating it. Octopus - very tender and flavorful. I rarely write reviews but I am feeling terrible for having left a bad one (rightly so) for Eleven Madison so I feel I should make up for it. Charlie Bird (I have been there five or six times) is one of the best restaurants in New York. Every.Single.Dish is mouthwateringly good. We save our visits for special occasions and every time we leave we are amazed at what an incredible experience it was. I've had just about every pasta at Charlie Bird, and I can't think of one way to possibly improve upon it. The appetizers, though extremely small and quite expensive, were all amazing. The octopus and the faro salad are two of the better appetizers I've had at a modern Italian restaurant. While a nice summer evening dining outside didn't hurt their cause, it wasn't necessary. Everything was "Top shelf" starting with half bottles of every wine. You know two people will be drinking a whole bottle. Why not get to try two half bottles! Nice wine list.As is suggested by other reviews, even if you don't like chicken liver you will like this chicken liver with cherries. The papardelle with mushrooms and regianno was simple and flavorful.Then there was the suckling pig with crispy skin. I love Charlie Bird. I found this gem 3 or 4 years ago, and I haven't stopped going since. The atmosphere and decor of the place is perfect. The retro yellow booths, dim lighting, pictures, gorgeous bar and seating, and loud music all make this place one-of-a-kind. While some may find the music jarring, the loud rap music makes Charlie Bird unique and interesting. It has its own personality that is in line with hip, late-night, never sleeping vibe of nyc. The food, though, is what brings me back. Great seafood with an Italian style that is almost always the best (once the food was not as amazing--but still really really good). The raw seafood is something to never pass up on (the fluke, scallops, and razor clams are jaw-dropping) and the large seafood dishes, pastas, and vegetables are also amazing. They used to have an amazing Chitarra pasta with clams and chili. I have not tried the new one, but the Spaghetti with sea urchin seems closest to this. Definitely a place to go, if not for food, at least for drinks. While the staff are often nice, the bar can be a little rude. Overall, a must try place for the food and great atmosphere! More...
