His team did only part of the agreed work in the first days. They left the roof not fully secured and disappeared. Meanwhile, John collected money from us for materials (windows) that were to be used at a later stage of the work. From that day on, no one continued working, and John began to avoid any contact with us. He is not answering the phone and not answering messages. In the meantime, the kitchen was flooded twice after rain - without any reaction from John. I am a pensioner. On 4/5/21 I had water coming into my front room. I transferred £1500.00 to John Johnstone, supposedly for materials and scaffolding, on the promise that he would start work in a few days, I never received a receipt. Immediately after he did not answer my calls nor reply to any messages. DO NOT USE (short answer) Got a new roof fitted after it was damaged in a storm and was leaking. I must say I was impressed to start with, they came out on a saturday to do a tempory repair and began putting scaffolding up on the monday. Down hill from here unfortunatly, been over 8 weeks since it was completed and mine and my niebourghs front and back gardens are strewn with debris. Hand picked around 150 nails out of my lawn and front garden, not dropped in a pile but randomly "chucked" all over the place. 5 weeks ago the dehumidfier suppling company gave up and said the roof must still be leaking because the wall isnt drying, so they went up into the loft to find a puddle of water on the loft insulation. Ive called, texted and emailed but i cant get a reply. My porch over the front door was damged when the scaffolding came down, cement and roofing tiles came crashing down on top of it, i know this because i was under it at the time coming out of my house! I retreive a silicone gun from the upstairs window ledge, various other tools have been left behind and i have tried to tell them about them so i can return them because of there value. Plenty of other things i could complain about but you get the point. The work that was carried out by this company on my property was a disgrace. Have waited about 8 weeks plus for them to return to fix the damaged with a promise of dates and not showing up and not answering the telephone when I call. They have ladder damaged the slates on the property leaving this a health and safety issue with slates falling off the roof. Not only this the chimney work was not as was quoted for and has been left in a terrible state of repair. They have left all their rubble in the guttering, not to mention leaving all their rubbish from the job in a neighbours garden. Would not recommend using this company unless you want to end up taking this matter to Trading Standard, as you will not be able to contact them and will get promises of dates to return to no avail. The promise of a 10 year guarantee means nothing unless the tradesman wants to come back to fix what I can only call a cowboy job to my roof and chimney. To date still waiting for them to come back to repair the damage they caused and also fix the mess that they have left. Further action will now need to be taken against this company leaving the property in a serious state of a complete disregard of any health and safety regulations that are set for such apparent tradesmen. These guys seemed to know what they were doing and very convincing. However work carried out has left roof in terrible mess. Damaged slates, rubble left in guttering, wrong cement used leaving me with patchy chimney and roof not matching building or in line with other chimneys. Have contacted several times and promised that they would come back to resolve and repair , Very disappointed. Have had professional roofers to assess and they advise work has not been carried out by trained professionals roofers. Do not recommend or rate any stars but had to award one to write review. More...
