We've instructed Beda photo on a number of projects for us over the last few years. Across the whole scope of our companies photographic needs. From drone footage for site surveys to branding and various photos for our website design. Not only do they deliver an excellent standard of work, Bill in the office is experienced, approachable, and ended up being extremely cost effective compared to other businesses in the same field. I can't recommend them enough. Many thanks Beda! More...

Q&As

The secret of a good image is knowing what you are trying to achieve. Planning is everything. We have learnt this over 30 years of corporate and commercial photography, allied to design and web development. If you want to get the most competitive quotes and the best results from a photographer, videographer or web designer, make sure to provide him with all the information necessary. In photography the subject is crucially important. Too many people leave out essential details, simply saying, for instance that they have six products and want four images of each, forgetting to mention whether the products in question are food, clothing, washing machines, fork lift trucks or whatever. Be ready to enter into a dialogue with the photographer to get the brief right. If someone simply quotes blindly on the basis of almost no information it's probably because he has no idea what he's doing.

Before even discussing the cost, it's essential to have answers to the following questions:

1. What will the images be used for? This affects equipment, resolution, lighting, style – everything.
2. What is your budget? With a little discussion you will often find that your money could be better spent. Don't forget that most professionals have a lot of experience of photographing and filming all manner of products and services. You should pick their brains relentlessly!
3. Who is your target audience? If it's a commercial project, with a product or service to sell it goes without saying that the images should appeal to the target market, so research this beforehand and don't just rely on what looks nice.
4. Do you envisage using the images in a publication, online or in print? A picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth a million. Whatever the end use, the images will dominate the publication, so think carefully about style, styling, makeup, props etc., because once done these cannot be undone and will set the style for your brochure or website.

The fact that every job is different. You have to have a hard core of experience to fall back on to ensure the best results for your client, but trying to make each job better than the last is the real test. Challenging, but rewarding.

Fed up with producing conveyor belt images to order for my boss whose motto was "give them as little as possible for their money". True.

I have long experience of producing images and videos for clients from many areas of business, industry, education and government, and as a fully qualified and insured drone pilot can provide a reliable, professional quality service at very reasonable prices.
