Very good first session, Caroline spent time assessing my range of movement and capability to be able to tailor future sessions.

Caroline is so great to work with. I get so much more from my training now it's transformed my whole approach to fitness.
I've seen more progress in a couple of months than I'd achieved in years myself even with other trainers and classes etc. And so much more fun too! Can't recommend her highly enough whether you want performance training or rehabilitation.

Q&As

It's all about listening and I believe the devil is in the detail. You need to find that key that will unlock someone's potential. You can have all the technical knowledge and qualifications but if you cannot get across to your client how they are going to achieve their goals or get them to trust you to remove any barriers they may have within their minds, they will not succeed.

I've had many years of athletics coaching, bringing teenagers through to successful adult careers and also as an Exercise Referral Instructor looking after people where major personal issues can be the reason why they are in the physical situation they have found themselves. It can be as simple as forgiving their own body or themselves in order to move forwards.

First of all, you have to be realistic about your body type and I would never promise a body that would be physically impossible to achieve. I would help the client look for an attainable image of themselves instead.
Secondly, there is no great secret except proper goal definition, a plan to achieve the goal and sheer hard work, discipline and support.

Seeing the look on my client's face when they have achieved their goal or even surpassed it! Or that lightbulb moment in their eyes when they master a technique! To see them having fun when they least expected to!It doesn't matter the level of their goal - could be major sporting level or just being able to play with their grandchildren after a heart operation.

Work does not get much better when you do something you absolutely love.

I wanted more flexibility in when and where I trained my clients - being an athlete, I'm a great believer in the benefits of outdoor exercise and being shut away in a gym the whole time can be depressing. So I can train clients indoors - in a gym or their front room, their gardens, the park or even at a track. Or they can come play at mine!

I have been in coaching, competing and training for many years now and I will have experiences many other trainers won't have come across so there is not much that would surprise or disconcert me. Because of this experience, I can apply my knowledge to many areas and help all sorts of people across a wide range of sports with their fitness goals. Or think out of the box for an activity to achieve a particular movement when the usual one won't work.

And I always keep to the fore of my mind who I am training, their goals and needs, what they can or cannot do and the level of support that works best for them - the gentle push or the more assertive approach!
