Wedding DJ

I was beyond disappointed with Mike.
First of all, he threatened to ‘chin’ my photographer. His attitude towards our photographer was disgusting. Unprofessional. Abusive and Embarrassing. He threatened violence to him in front of our friends and family. Including small children who were terrified. I saw the whole thing and I think it is vile that he would expect a bride and groom to miss out on a great picture opportunity because he didn’t want to move his car. There was a car park for everyone to use.
I told him my dads name was Sean, he even wrote that down. He then called out ‘Shane’. How embarrassing for my dad. A moment he will never get back. He couldn’t even play the song we had picked which was heartbreaking for us.
I told him we was ready for our 1st dance, he continued to play 2-3 songs before calling us up, leaving us stood waiting instead of relaxing and mingling with our guests
Again, I told him the father daughter dance should have been at 7pm. He wasn’t calling for it. I went and told him we were ready, and again, he played 3 songs before calling us up. Again, leaving me stood for 10 minutes, waiting, and not doing what I should have been doing
He repeated many songs throughout the night.
He replayed the same song back to back on a few occasions
His playlist was extremely dated, he had no ‘latest hits’ as described in his details. My step son was devastated when he couldn’t play Higher Power by Coldplay.
I asked him to play mamma Mia from the movie. I said it was my favourite. He said he preferred the original version, so that’s what he played.
He lost connection twice leaving us with no music
He was rude to our guests. Granted drinks on the dance floor is against health and safety, but his morbid comments over the microphone about ‘faces being smashed in due to broken glass’ were completely unnecessary.
He caused damage to the property by parking in front of a fire exit (as above altercation!)
He quoted me £150 when we booked then expected £180 on the night when we got there. Then reminded us several times through the night that we needed to make payment.
We asked for 1 football song, he played a few more. Ok fine. But to repeat ‘vindaloo’ 3 times, it got super boring and left our guests bored. He then felt it was necessary to play ‘you’ll never walk alone’. Not a Liverpool fan in sight and caused our guests to walk away.
Leading up to the wedding I was desperately trying to get in touch with him to finalise things. He did not return any of my emails or calls, which panicked me. As a bride who had planned this wedding 4 times due to covid, I would’ve hoped he could appreciate the need to reassure our booking and go over any details including any songs etc to ensure that he had them. When he did eventually answer his landline, he was abrupt and rude and even used the words ‘bollocks’ when referring to his previous guests who requested 60 plus songs

Mike has a very intimidating attitude and a lot of our guests didn’t want to ask for a song. Probably because they saw his behaviour towards our photographer.

To be honest, there wasnt much about this ‘disco’ that entertained us and our guests anymore than a phone connected to a speaker would have. Actually, that would’ve been more enjoyable as at least we could’ve played the songs we wanted and not your version of a good tune.

I must add, when I first got in touch with Mike to book, he was nice as pie and I was thrilled we had someone who cared about what he did and how important his customers are. Complete catfish!

I was intrigued by these comments. They were dated 21 August 2022, whilst the function was on 28 June 2021. A delay of around 14 months. Had things been wholly as Holly described, I would have expected a prompt review or contact, certainly within a few days of the event. As it was, due to my contacting covid, I hired another DJ to cover this job He did a couple of jobs for me subsequently with good reviews, but he has now retired and is no longer working for me nor anyone else. As it stands, having done scores more functions in the intervening period with no adverse comments, indeed a fair few resulting in repeat bookings, I have had to check my records and give a great deal of thought to the issues as described. I was aided by the fact that the venue was held in a barn in a remote rural location in East Yorkshire, and will respond to these comments as far as I am able having contacted the DJ mentioned. When I accepted the booking, I quoted a reduced fee of £150 due to the function being held on a Monday and that the bride had cancelled her wedding on a number of occasions and lost deposits. I wanted to do my best for her., The disco was booked to play from 7pm to midnight, but I was later asked to extend the hours and start at 6pm. I advised that there would be a pro-rata extra charge of £30 for this extension which she accepted. I have been told by the DJ's that on his arrival as he was unloading his car, he was approached by the photographer in a very arrogant manner, who demanded that the car must be moved car immediately. He was advised him that this would be done shortly, in a couple of minutes when it was unloaded, but the photographer became very angry and insulting. Infract the car was moved shortly afterwards as promised but the photographer continued his hostile and threatening attitude towards the DJ. In answer to a few other comments. I understand that one lady was sitting on his stool for a while chatting with the DJ whilst he was playing her songs and another lady approached him several times with her requests which he played for her. The dance floor in the barn was a bare concrete area, and many of the guests insisted on bringing their drinks with them whilst dancing. They were politely reminded that in their own interests not to do this. The girls wearing light sandals and some even bare feet. It does not require a great deal of imagination to understand that a glass being dropped onto the concrete floor would shatter with the potential to cause serious injuries to bare or lightly clad feet. I refute the statement that I did not answer emails or phone calls. I always carry a mobile phone which I regularly check for texts and emails, or indeed telephone calls. Plus my landline has an answerphone and no messages were left unanswered on it. I also frequently check for any emails sent to me. I respond as soon as I possibly can to all these points of contact and would have been pleased to resolve any issues that had been subsequently brought to my attention. At the end of the evening, I am told that, the DJ spoke to a number of people and had friendly conversations with them . He also spoke with the father of the bride who shook his hand and was thanked for his work. I believe that the DJ was, as always, sober on the occasion described. How many others present at the party could say this?

Wedding DJ

Music selection was good, however, there were a number things that we feel compelled to share as a warning to others.

Firstly, This gentleman made totally inappropriate comments (on a live mic! ) towards the maid of honour.

Secondly, he was constantly looking at his watch during the best-man's speech, to the point some guests asked us if he was in some sort of hurry.

Thirdly; starting the song for the first dance before the groom was even near the dance floor.

Finally - and this one takes the biscuit - after refusing immediate electronic payment (because he only accepted cash for some reason) he was paid 85% of his fee with a cash-back from the bar, only to literally chase the groom an hour later to remind him, and we quote "You still owe me 50 quid mate"

We are not too sure what sort of events this gentleman was used to or the type of people he deals with, but certainly we will not recommend him to anybody we know.

The booking was taken at very short notice, and the whole function was disorganised on the part of the bridal party, who arrived at the venue almost an hour before the agreed time. No inappropriate comments were made by the DJ, who allowed a guest to use the mic, which was swiftly removed from him as a result of his misuse. During the speeches there was a considerable disruption during the course of them. Nothing had been prepared and a long delay was caused by a member of the bridal party forgetting to bring gifts to be presented during the speeches. They had gone to collect them, giving a return time, which was delayed. There was confusion which the DJ tried to cover by playing some music until the speeches could be concluded. The song for the first dance was started at a signal from the bride, but it seemed that her bride groom had wandered off to speak with some bridesmaids after her signal. The DJ's fee was agreed to be payed in cash at the start of the function due to the short notice of the booking. (Two days). There was an issue over the payment of the fee and reluctance on the part of the bridal party as to who would make the payment. When the payment was received, it was found to be £50 less than the agreed sum, and the manner in which the payment was made suggested that this was intentional. Clearly the lady making this comments has her own errant recollections of what took place. The DJ was doing his best to please but fighting against a strong tide of confusion, despite which he received several appreciative comments from some guests at the end of the evening.. Since this event we have had two enjoyable parties which were booked by guests who were at this wedding. You may well believe that pique is the root of this review due to the bridal party's reluctance to honour their promise to pay the ammount for their entertainment agreed when the booking was made.

Keeping the dance floor buzzing with all the music the host and guests choose and a great light show to build the atmosphere.

Relaxed yet hard working and keen to please and most importantly listening to the audience and playing their sort of music

Meeting happy people and giving value for money by ensuring that their party really buzzes.

I have high standards and like to lead, not follow. One of my residencies lasted 16 years, until the building was burnt down in a large fire. If I hadn't done a first class job, would I have lasted that long?
