Offering a Professional and Personal Approach to each Dog and Owner.
Dog Behaviour and Training should be personal to each dog, and owner, not a “one size fits all” approach. It should be based on a force free, experience and professional approach involving both you the owner and your dog, getting you to work together, instead of against each other. I believe there is a solution to every dog training issue or behaviour problem. Every dog has different needs, owners have different goals, and there’s no single training method that works for everyone, thinking outside the box to not only get the desired results, but also helps you work with your dog.
As a Canine Behaviourist and trainer I have experience with a whole spectrum of dogs, from motivated, easy-to-train dogs, to dogs that are aggressive with people and/or their fellow canines. All this knowledge is gained from experience and study which goes into every session with you and your dog.
Dogs aren't just a job, they are my whole world and I'm passionate about their whole world.
I am a qualified Psychotherapist for humans and have expanded my HND to incorporate canines.
I’m a volunteer for all dogs matter Lancashire, which is a rehoming site as a behaviourist and trainer and also to expand my knowledge I’ve been working closely with a trainer who trains police dogs and security dogs, he is an approved instructor/trainer for the national association of NASDU.
I’m fully insured and have an advance DBS (CRB) check for full peace of mind.
My aim and my passion is to build owner confidence, improve communication and understanding, providing the owner with the knowledge and skills required to achieve harmony and balance in the relationship with their dog.
I was born on a farm and had a full range of animals that over the 30 years I trained and continued to train dogs.
My own dogs, past and present, have been amazing teachers and I have learned so much from each of them over the years. It is a privilege to share your life with dogs and I am so grateful for everything they have taught me. There have been challenges along the way and I have found that there is always a new way of looking at things and that one method does not suit all. They have shown me how important it is to take breed requirements into consideration, temperament and personality too.
I currently have a golden Labrador boy who I have had from 8 weeks old, I decided that I was going to train him with force free techniques because love and kindness goes a long way, a dog will give you there heart and loyalty straight away and that’s what we as humans should give back and when you do it makes a big difference to training. I’ve learnt from experience love and respect that has been earned works, I also have a Romanian rescues large breed female who came to me in a bad state and attacked when you was near her, she had this fight or flight attitude from what had happened to her, she had never experienced kindness or a gentle touch, love in a humans eyes. She had no knowledge of anything other than pain and a concrete room, she’d never seen grass or had any kind of life but with patience and force free training, love and understanding her and how she was thinking made our relationship grow and change into something better and now she is an amazing girl who loves life, her brother and humans.
I will not tolerate abusive behaviour towards dogs or any animal cruelty.

A great place for dogs to run around freely
My dog has a great time here and it’s an opportunity to let the dogs off to play and run around. Joanne has always been lovely and welcoming and is providing a great place for owners to bring their dogs and have fun!
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend Joanne Porter. She is totally dedicated to what she does. A highly trained lady, puts Victoria Still way to shame. Lovely brew on the play dates and it's great to see all the dogs running around making friends. More...

brilliant would recommend to any one
Jo's a lovely lady and goes out of her way to help. She's very knowledgeable and has a passion for dogs and they absolutely love her. With guidance and advice from Jo I think I'm finally getting to manage my Romanian rescue Harvey. Harvey is lead reactive, it got to the point I became very disheartened and dreaded the walks. Jo came on walks to assess the situation. After some changes she advised, Harvey is more manageable and walks aren't the dread they were. She's a very hands-on trainer and I would highly recommend her services. More...

A few weeks ago Jo came to help me with settling a very confused little girl foxy, who was taken from her family very quickly and brought to me and my busy house with children and another dog. Jo came for an hour or so on a Sunday morning and within a day or so I had the dogs sharing the same space. They are now the best of friends and play like sisters and it is just amazing to see the transformation. You can’t always see what’s right in front of you when you’re a loving human because you just deal with the pups from your heart. Sometimes you need to understand what they are thinking and dealing with and it all changes thanks Jo More...
