What do you love most about your job?

Meeting people and hearing about their businesses. We are always inspired by the brilliant work clients are doing with new products, services and ideas and we love hearing all about what makes them and their team tick. After that, we get excited when thinking up ways we can share their stories with potential buyers either through traditional press and newspapers, or at live events and on-line.

What inspired you to start your own business?

We thrive on variety and working on vastly diverse projects - what we learn through working with a range of different businesses helps ensure we're more rounded and can provide a better service. It was the desire to help more businesses and work more collaboratively that first inspired us to set up 12th Man Solutions.

Event Manangement

End-to-end event management including content development, venue & speaker sourcing and selection, set and AV design, delegate logistics and on-site hosting. Whatever support you need for your event from ordering the tea and coffee to leaving everything to us we'll be more than happy to help out!

Communications Strategy Development

We help you to define what you need your customers to do and then develop the plan that says the right things, to the right people, at the right time to influence them to act.

Opinion Gathering

Some call it market research, we call it having a chat with people to understand how they really feel about your product or service to help you improve it for them. Whether it's asking a few of your team about how they'd like to see the business grow, or interviewing senior stakeholders to understand how you meet their needs we can ask the right questions that help you shape the right answers.

Media Relations

We build relationships with the key media stakeholders, influencers and journalists so that your story gets told in the right place, at the right time, in a way that helps you connect with your audience. If you need the local business community to hear about what you're offering or want to get feature in a targeted trade magazine we can find the right tone, detail and angle to get journalists writing about you and your business.


From a press release, a speaker presentation or a white paper to internal comms and external selling tools there’s not much we haven’t written, edited or proof-read in our time and we’d be happy to help you with a one-off project or as an on-going support service. Marketing Communications Manager


From March 2009 to December 2012.

Responsibility for all trade communications and engagement including : - Development of full communications strategy including defining message hierarchy and commercial objectives - Deployment of media strategy including all brand and category advertising, engagement projects, interviews with senior spokespeople and feature writing across the range of 12 trade magazines - Development and implementation of non-media engagement such as trade shows, awards sponsorship, speaker platforms and project work to enhance company profile and engage key target audience - Full end-to-end project management for internal commercial conferences for up to 700 delegates including all logistical and content development requirements

Various Marketing & Sales Role

Heineken / Scottish & Newcastle

From August 2001 to March 2009.

Various roles across both the on- and off trade sectors of leading international brewer Heineken including working in sales for the major grocery retailers (e.g. Tesco, Morrisons) along with developing and executing the marketing strategy for a regional brewery business.


SHS Sales & Marketing Trade Communications Strategy

For the last 3 years 12th Man Solutions have been appointed to work with SHS Sales and Marketing on a number of trade communications projects across brands including Johnson's Baby, Benylin, Sudafed, Calpol, Twinings, First Cape and Zip. The scope of this work has included strategy development, feature writing, advertising booking and management, media management and evaluation. The scale of work with SHS Sales & Marketing has increased year on year as the work delivered has demonstrated solid commercial results across the brands including increased sales and distribution.

National Convenience Show

Across the last four annual events, 12th Man Solutions have work with the event organisers of the largest industry trade show in the sector, to recruit increasing numbers of visitors and deliver inspiring and relevant content. We have worked with all major sponsors of the show including Booker, Kerry Foods, Subway and General Mills to ensure they maximise all potential marketing opportunities and achieve clear and measurable returns for their investment. In addition to this we have worked on a number of recruitment campaigns including brand ambassador tours, PR and video campaigns using key stakeholders. Finally we also help develop the content for the live theater at the show including sourcing speakers, managing presenters and content and stage-managing all aspects of the show on on-site.

The Junction Foundation

We have worked with this local charity in Redcar to help them find their confidence and define the story about what makes them great in order to approach funders and investors with a greater chance of success. Through working with their stakeholders, clients and staff we were able to pull out the case studies and stories about how the charity were making a difference to their local community and use this more effectively to help demonstrate the benefit of further investment and grants.

James Bedford & Co. (Yorkshire) Ltd

12th Man Solutions are working with this Yorkshire manufacturer of steel furniture to help them future-proof their strategy in order to grow. With a changing landscape and a challenging manufacturing environment, we are helping James Bedford to better understand who their customers are, how to talk to them and what they need to hear. With a route to market which is evolving and less reliance on third party wholesalers, we are helping James Bedford re-balance their trade and find more efficient ways of driving sales for the future.
