What happened to this place? It used to so good. The chicken and shrimp were super dry and over cooked. The eggplant dip was super sour and tasted rotten. I got sick after eating it. Did they change the cook or owners? I will never come back. The food was overpriced and disgusting. I was craving beef shawarma, so I searched on yelp and found Zayna's! I almost thought I was at the wrong place because it is also a cafe, but the address is correct! I ordered the beef shawarma sandwich, and it was delicious! Not only was the food good but the owner Ray, came and checked on everyone including myself of course. This was some of the best Mediterranean food, I've had in a very long while. I ordered a chicken shawarma combo and lentil soup via delivery and it was still hot upon arrival. I usually take photos but I took one bite and it was over, I kept going and by the time I was like I should've took some it was to late. My mother absolutely enjoyed her lentil soup, for me I had a chicken/beef combo and asked for extra rice, extra pita and a side of hummus, everything came to about $35. What I did not like is you couldn't add instructions when I wanted to ask them to remove tomato and cucumber from the salad because some of us have allergies and we can't adjust menu items which is a concern that you guys should look at in the future. The combo comes with pita bread, salad and rice. I don't know why hummus is not complimentary like most spots so I had to purchase a side of hummus for $2.00 and it came in this small ramekin, I ordered extra pita thinking I was going to get a healthy side of hummus but wasn't even enough. I ended up giving the rest of the pita to my mom, they were shaped like chips, idk if they did that on purpose for creativity or what. But it's better to give whole pita in case we'd like to make our own gyros or whatever else have you, don't be a gatekeeper. Now as far as taste! Winner winner chicken dinner! The seasonings were explosive, every bite my mouth was like what is all this flavor? As much as I wanted to keep eating I couldn't, the portions were hearty. The rice was cooked proper wasn't mushy or dry, not old etc. the salad despite the unwanted ingredients complimented the rest of the dish especially w the dressing, and it wasn't soggy. The only minor problem for me was the garlic dressing had to much horseradish and was so thick it didn't melt like most garlic butter,once I put it onto my meat it dissolves and just blends together. This butter it did not matter even if I warmed it up more it just was there, in globs, thick but it still tasted good overall. This place is exceptional, and has been one of the most highly rated places in Redondo Beach for years. I just went to the new Redondo location (they moved, no longer on Sepulveda, now on Artesia Blvd, same great food). Not only do they offer the Mediterranean menu from the old location; they've added a second Indian menu.... and we ordered from both. Juicy chicken kebobs with just the right sauces and salad dressing; and the lamb + chicken tikka masalas were remarkably flavorful and rich, comfort food to their finest. THE BEST! This is the absolute best Mediterranean food restaurant I have ever been to in my entire life. I love the shrimp kabob because of the way the shrimp is cooked and all the spices that they add to it! The quantities are very good the for the price they charge. Zayna catered my birthday party recently and it was, well what can i say, outstanding. As a person who knows how authentic shawarma, kabobs, falafel and such tastes, i've been sorely disappointed by the offerings in LA and America in general. But Zayna changed that for me. I took my family to this restaurant again today at a mid-autumn festival day. I had great time here last time. But I left with regrets and disappointment today! $15 dollar Kobbo set they charged $25, saying the menu they gave to me was too old. Without telling me when I placed order. The meat and veggies are all burnt and overcooked. Laid back, local Mediterranean spot with good service.They now share the space with Banana Leaf restaurant (Indian), so you're given both menus when you dine in. The place is extremely casual. Most people were picking up their orders instead of dining in, and even the dine-in was offered Covid-era style, on plastic plates/utensils and in to-go boxes.For the entree, I tried the shawarma combo with rice, salad, and sides of tahini and garlic sauce. The portion was quite generous, and the strongest point was that their beef was noticeably tender and not chewy. They did seem to use some spices which dominated the flavor profile, making the meat quite flavorful but which might not be to everyone's liking.The fried calamari appetizer was a miss. It's hard to know how to rate this restaurant. We ordered takeout last night.The good:The chicken and beef shawarmas were good. Seasoned well and cooked perfectly. The rice was good. The Zayna bowl with chicken was good except that it didn't have rice (but is described and pictured with rice). The not-so-good list is longer:Order took forever. When we got home, we saw that something we ordered and paid for was not in our takeout (rice pudding). The flaming potatoes were cubed potatoes, nothing else. Not even a sprinkle of parsley. Baklava was really oily on the bottom. More oil than honey. The Zayna Bowl needed rice. The lentil soup was bland and too salty. But here's the thing. I just had leftovers of the zayna bowl all tossed together and it was delicious. So realistically, it's very possible I'll get takeout there again, but probably only a zayna bowl and shawarma combo. Amazing place to grab some mediterranean delicacies. Started the meal with hummus that was superb freshly made, and you can tell by the texture this is no store bought item and Flaming potatoes perfectly seasoned. This place is DELICIOUS!! I've been here 3x, 2x in the past week. I grew up in the South Bay, but no longer live here. I've liked everything I tried here! I've had: beef shwarma, chicken shwarma, kibbeh rolls, vegetarian moussaka, and the four dips (different hummuses). On my third visit yesterday, the owner came out to chat to us. He was SO nice! He talked about how Ramsay came to help them. The restaurant isn't fancy, but the food is excellent. Not gonna lie, this place has been on my "to-eat" list for a while because I watched their episode on Kitchen Nightmares. Now that I moved close to the area, I figured it was time to give them a try . So, during a lazy day in my apartment with my partner, we decided to Doordash from this place for dinner. The restaurant has certainly come a long way from their Kitchen Nightmares debut.I got the Lamb Kebab plate, and one of the first things I noticed as soon as I opened my takeout box was how big the pieces of lamb were on the skewer. That already left me with a good impression of the dish. Then I got to taste the kebab, which was incredibly flavorful, meaty, and delicious. Charred pieces of veggies on the skewer helped to break through some of the richness of the lamb. In addition, the rice was honestly out of this world. You can tell that the rice was cooked with more than just water, and it complimented really well with the lamb. Finally, the salad was also surprisingly good, with the dressing nice and light, while bits of feta cheese added some bits of savoriness to the salad. I will mention that we got a really nice amount of food, and I ended up finishing it all in one sitting because it was just that good. My partner ordered the Shawarma Combo, which contained all the parts I described above except for the meats, which was a mix of half beef shawarma and half chicken shawarma. I personally really enjoyed the chicken shawarma more than the beef, mainly because the chicken absorbed more of the flavors of the marinade than the beef. Keep in mind that all of these descriptions take into account the fact I got this order via delivery, so I can only imagine how it would taste when you're eating it fresh off the grill at the restaurant! Would absolutely come back to this place, albeit, maybe I'll be a bit less lazy and take out the order myself in order to save a couple of dollars. More...
