We come here every year for our anniversary, and it gets better every year! Warm and inviting decor, populated by courteous and charming staff, and delicious, sumptuous food are only some of the reasons we return without fail. The people at the door greeted us with welcoming sincerity and friendly smiles. We were seated immediately for our 9 p.m. reservation at a cozy table near the window. The restaurant was buzzing at full capacity, but we were still able to have private conversation. Jackson approached us quickly but unobtrusively and led us through the menu, helping choose our best options. The service manager/sommelier Julian gave us a guided tour through the small but exquisite wine list and helped us pick a bottle that perfectly complemented our food. We took our time sipping and eating, and when Jackson was done for the night, Ben introduced himself and took over with equally exceptional service. The food was indescribably tasty and elegant, and each delicious course was paced out properly. We felt neither rushed nor neglected. Our glasses were never empty. If you are looking for expert service, unpretentious- yet-classy and DELICIOUS food and drink, and unparalleled atmosphere, do not hesitate to dine here. A gem of a restaurant hidden at the edge of Case Western's campus and within walking distance from the Glidden House hotel, and all of the museums. The interior is rather tight, with the kitchen greeting you as soon as you walk in. Be wary of staff moving through the space on the way to/from the kitchen and bar - the tight quarters can make going to the restroom or leaving your table risky if you don't pause at corners. We recently celebrated our anniversary here. The service was excellent. I'm not a fancy person, so I didn't recognize several of the dishes, but the wait staff was 100% willing to explain what everything was and make recommendations. Place was hopping, Zack Bruell himself was at the pass, very, very impressive food and wine. Silky chicken liver mousse (a huge portion), zingy arugula salad with a ton of parmesan, handsome artichoke, just a ton of classics (and their traditional sauces) done in a totally pleasing way. Our server seemed new, which my dining companions assure me is unusual for this restaurant, but we were in no hurry and got everything sorted out. In fact, we had to be informed that the kitchen was closing at 9. So take the posted hours with a grain of salt. Hanger steak was an excellent piece of meat, with "a point" fries. The highlight was clearly the cheese tray, though. The French stalwarts you'd expect with newcomers to keep it interesting, all presented with encyclopedic knowledge by the cheese server. Whoever does their buying and affinage really knows what they are doing! The beverage list is similar, a mix of known quality names and lesser-known gems. The location in a vintage carriage house in University Circle is perfect. The garden is lovely and has a happy buzz and ambiance. We started with the gazpacho which my husband found too spicy, No questions asked they immediately replaced it with another first course of his choice, I had the halibut, he the duck -- both were excellent. Went to dinner with the wife and kids, we all loved it. We were not sure if the kids would find anything on the menu to enjoy but we were able to find multiple things for the 8yr olds (Twins) and the 11yr old. Granted they are not picky eaters.
