My gf and I went here for restaurant week which was definitely the move because the prices otherwise are so expensive I don't think it'd be worth it. Every dish was dressed up so pretty (for real check my photos out). The Winner was exceptionally good, and the Avocado Salad with Crab was my next favorite dish. I found the naked roll to be just ok. The dessert and the other rolls were also quite good.The atmosphere was very hip inside, but as others have mentioned it was loud af. Also, we arrived at 5, but as the nite went on the restaurant got more and more crowded which is great for them, but it bogged down the service. Our first few dishes came out quickly, but the later dishes took a while and we waited about 15 minutes for the check.Overall, I'd recommend this restaurant during restaurant week for the good deals and fun atmosphere, but I wouldn't return otherwise. My husband and I did the chef's tasting menu for $175 each. The food was great, but we both left so hungry! We ended up going to Wendy's for single burgers and we split a small fry. I share that detail just to demonstrate how hungry we both still were! There were 6 courses to the chef's tasting menu. All tasted great, but some we were like, 'really, that's it, one piece of sashimi is the course?' Unfortunately, the two times we've driven out to Yume (25 min from SE DC), we have had less than ideal experiences. The sushi has taken at least an hour or more, and the music is way too loud when we've been seated at the bar. We've come for an early dinner on Saturdays at around 5:00pm. We are disappointed, because we really think the sushi is good but sadly the service has really faltered. They've mentioned they've been short staffed all year but we have seen no improvement. I hope they get up to speed so we can give their new DC location a try.Also, I've received nothing but professional and courteous responses to my feedback from the restaurant group. Really surprised by all the amazing reviews on here. Service was excellent but the food was not very good. My nigiri was just ok - some pieces better than others - definitely overpriced. Top Notch!!Amazing sushi and great service. Decided to go and try a new sushi place and we were delighted. Happy hour had some good deals on rolls and beer but the standout was the quality of the fish. Had salmon nigiri and the fish was like butter. Tuna nigiri was also high quality but did not hit like the salmon. After a few drinks we decided to try the salmon belly with foie gras and caviar. Possibly one of the best sushi restaurants I have ever been to. 30 minutes after open and many seats were filled. Everything really tastes like a delicacy and you will enjoy it. Our favorite was the Wagyu roll. Very good and I definitely recommend. Making your own roll is a cheaper option but doesn't taste as good. Finally tried Yume Sushi for their happy hour specials! They had a variety of handrolls and rolls for only $4! The canned beers and chilled sake was also $4. You seriously can't beat these prices! We started off with the baby octopus salad and it was sweet, chewy, and was a great starter to the meal. Our favorite was definitely the yellowtail scallion and soft shell crab hand roll. The fish to rice ratio was perfect and all super fresh! Our server/bartender was Sean, who was amazing!! We ordered the Secret Garden and Purple Heart and both were great drink choices for those who prefer fruity, sour, and sweet cocktails. Next up, we ordered a bunch of rolls from the Creamy Scallop Roll, Volcano Roll, Yume Roll, Dream Roll and even some DIY rolls. Our favorites had to be the Creamy Scallop and Yume Rolls -- so much so that we ordered another 3 orders of each! We also ordered 4 chutoro nigiri, which was the medium-fatty tuna. They also offer otoro which is an even fattier cut and a favorite amongst customers as well. The pieces of toro were huge and melted in our mouths immediately. The toro nigiri was extremely fresh and I would definitely order this again. Lastly, we ordered the tuna tatiki which is basically tuna sashimi topped with caviar and wasabi. There is too much luxurious addiction to the sushi. Gold foil, caviar, Hokkaido urchin, truffle oil... You name it. Lovely restaurant and nice outdoor seating as well. We had 5pm dinner reservations on a Saturday evening. They were already out of the salmon belly and yellow tail belly. Not the way we wanted to start our evening, especially when friends drove in for this specifically. But everything else on their menu totally made up for it.*the winner-amazing! Melts in your mouth. One star for the rude manager. Food is just okay, deserves 3- 3.5 stars.We called the day before to reserve and let them know we will bring our dog so we need outdoor seating. Everything was fine until we arrived, one server asked us to check in INDOOR. I let her know that we have a dog (as I was not sure if dogs are allowed inside) and she says IT IS OKAY. So I went inside. When we were checking in with the host, one tall man pointed me to the door and says dogs are not allowed indoor and kept POINTING At THE DOOR TO ASK ME TO LEAVE. Then the server showed me the table outside. I didn't know that RUDE tall man was a manger until the server told me. He could've asked whether I was checking in or trying to be seated indoor. Instead, he asked a customer to leave without the courtesy of asking. How can this kind of rude person be a manager? Will never come back. Not after being treated like this. NO ONE DESERVES TO BE TREATED LIKE THIS.Response: I understand that dogs are usually not allowed in the restaurant,which is why I double checked with the waitress if I can come in with my dog even after SHE ASKED ME TO COME IN TO CHECK IN. Good deals during happy hour. However, only outdoor seating can participate in the deals. Scallop Salad: Our first time trying raw scallops! They melted in the mouth and had a slight seafood taste. High quality sushi with unique combinations that are beautifully presented. I enjoyed my lunch here a lot and will definitely come back! I liked that we could create our own rolls - I made a salmon avocado roll and the pieces of salmon were huge and so soft. The avocado was perfect, too. They did not skimp on ingredients. The salmon lover roll was also amazing! The fresh mango chunks paired well with the generous pieces of fresh salmon. The sashimi roll was super creative - it was wrapped with a cucumber sheet instead of seaweed and there was no rice. Inside the crunchy cucumbers were silky pieces of tuna, salmon, and white fish. The roll paired really nicely with the savory ponzu sauce. The special toro roll was topped with uni from Hokkaido and just melted in my mouth. We have been regulars since the restaurant opened. Sushi rolls are delicious although at times less so. Today the rolls were delicious. The service was terrific but the music was so loud I couldn't hear myself think think. I couldn't hear my lunch companions at all. This is our fave sushi spot in NoVa. The fish is always fresh. They have so many yummy sauces - my fave is the garlic ponzu sauce. I love the seared butter miso scallop special - each was a perfect bite-size morsel! We also enjoyed the winner and the smoke box in the special menu as well as pretty much all the rolls in their regular menu. Some say that the prices are a bit too pricey but I disagree. I disagree - the prices reflect the high quality of their fish and the skills of their sushi chefs. In fact, their takeout roll box (three rolls for 25 bucks along with miso soup and salad) is a steal!My only recommendation is that they should consider lowering the volume of the music they play especially when the restaurant is full. I came here with a group of friends and we decided to get a lot of different things on the specials menu, as well as some sushi rolls to share. We had a reservation and were promptly seated. At 7:30, the restaurant wasn't so packed and it started to get busier later on. The overall service was also great and attentive.Yume sushi has some delicious umami flavors I had never tasted or experienced before. I think this restaurant emphasizes on their sauces and marinates that enhance the flavors of the fish so nicely.It was the first time I ever got to taste caviar and foie gras and wow. If it's your first time, try "The Winner". It's the most memorable special they have and I would come back just to eat it again even though the price is pretty up there.I will admit that we probably should have ordered more food, though. Given how much sushi I can consume, it's always a toss up considering going to a place like this. However, we came here for a special occasion and we have friends who love this spot, so we drove a little over an hour to check this place out and it didn't disappoint! We ordered several items off their "special menu" as well as their sashimi dinner and maki rolls. The items available on their special menu was a bit overwhelming, but it was fine bc most of the items had sold out by dinner time.First, the items from their special menu were pricey but I can see why! It was fresh and the flavors of the various seafood and caviar just accompanied each other well, not to mention the presentation was beautiful! My favorite was the bluefin tuna topped with uni, caviar and a gold flake! The sashimi dinner was amazing as well, very fresh and everything just melted in my mouth! The maki rolls were also impressive. For the price, they don't skimp on the meat and they are "oversized".The staff were also friendly and the service was prompt. Looking at their menu, I would say, they have more appealing options on their special menu versus their usual but it is nice that there is something for everyone. TLDR: Elevated sushi experience using top tier ingredients and creative execution. Come for anything off the "special" menu. Vibe: 5/5. Yume embraces a modern chic atmosphere. Both inside and outside seating are available at several 4 top tables. They also have a rather large bar seating area perfect for happy hour or solo diners looking for a more personal omakase experience. Service: 5/5. From the hostess to the wait staff that was serving us, everyone at Yume was great! Our waiter did a great job explaining the large menu as well as making suggestions. Waters we're constantly full and settling the bill was a breeze. Food: 5/5. Disclaimer, this is not your traditional sushi experience. Yume prides itself in using over the top/lavish ingredients in it's sushi and it definitely makes it's mark. They do have your traditional sushi/nigiri options available, however the true experience is had within their special nightly menu. Most items on this menu consist of indulgent ingredients such as Hokkaido uni, A5 waygu, edible gold, fatty otoro etc. I strongly recommend dabbling with a few off this menu, even though prices range from $20-30 per small entree. Service-4Value-3Food-4Came here for a special occasion. We all ordered the tasting menu. My friend was told it was $80 something when making the rsvp. When we got the bill it was $120 something.Our meal was made by the head chef. All in all most thing had good flavor combinations, all the fish that day tasted fresh, nice little touches from the chef in the dishes that were presented. The downside is I personally would not come back for the tasting. It was not worth the $ imo simply due to them putting Foie gras on many things that didn't need it along truffle oil. Using those ingredients on a couple bites is all one needs. It truly felt they do it in order to justify charging the price as I left hungry. All in all we did enjoy our experience. We tried tasting course at the counter. It was a great experience to have fresh sea food in the modern style - it is not a traditional Edomae sushi. Uni, different caviars, foie gras, and other ingredients with sashimi and small dish presented in the style of flavor over flavors. I'm commenting strictly about the quality of the fish and sushi. This particular day we ate at this establishment, the fish was not fresh. I believe the head chef knew this to be true, because 99% of the sushi we received was covered with cheap truffle oil mixed wih some other dark concoction. We couldn't taste the fish! The presentation was nice, but that's about it. So for the extreme price that they charge, especially for the tasting menu, it was quite ridiculous and the value for the quality received was extremely poor. Again, the presentation was good, but i eat with my tongue, not my eyes.They get wonderful business as the novice sushi eaters consider the place to be a hip trendy music thumping vibe and a place o be sen perhaps? Thus the owner doesn't need to care about the quality of the fish perse. The place was packed. Perhaps it's just the tasting menu that needs help? I highly suggest that you remove the tasting menu as an option until you know that you have quality fresh fish. Super cute. I have been back a couple times and it is a vibe. Trendy sushi spot for sure. The restaurant isn't located by too many other restaurants and the parking is kind of tight- depending on when you come. The seating is kind of tight too but it makes sense. The sushi bar is a cute spot to sit, the art work is hip, and the waiters are knowledgeable and quick.It's on the pricey side but it definitely is worth it. First impression was great since we were seated early after we arrived well before our reservation time. For drinks, we ordered the Secret Garden (Japanese whiskey, hibiscus and rose syrup, lime juice, and honey rim) and Lavender Lover (Japanese vodka, lavender syrup and bitters, lime juice, and honey rim) which were both refreshing and sweet. We opted to start off with The Winner (bluefin tuna, eel, seared foie gras, French caviar, and gold flakes) and placed two orders of the sushi dinner which was an assortment of 10 pieces of sushi. Both did not disappoint. The bluefin tuna in The Winner melted in our mouths and the taste of truffle combined perfectly with the fish. All the sushi was very fresh and presented beautifully.We sat at the sushi bar where we were mesmerized by all the effort that goes on behind the scenes and although we were fairly full we decided to order the Monster Trio (seared A5 wagyu with foie gras, seared fatty tuna with uni, and seared scallop with uni topped with truffle wasabi).
