My husband and I highly recommend Yoko Oda as an interior designer! Prior to meeting Yoko, we have never used a designer before and we felt our home lacked style and comfortable living spaces. We had plenty of available rooms however we felt that they were not utilized appropriately and lacked joy when we walked into them. We wanted to have lots of usable space.

When we first met Yoko, she spent lots of time talking to us to get an idea of our lifestyle and if we gravitated towards one style or another. We may have been a challenge in that we had absolutely no idea of the various styles and what we felt comfortable with. She quickly put us at ease.

She came up with some ideas based on our daily lifestyle and personalities and basically turned our home into a place that accommodated all our needs. She initially designed our living room, family room and dining room. She brought life back into these rooms and we now enjoy and use every living space she has touched.

Her team also consisted of the best contractor and crew, electrician and a custom cabinet maker, all of whom did beautiful meticulous work!

In fact we liked her work so much we called her back to help design our master, daughter's room, office, loft and downstairs bedroom.

She incorporated thoughtful personal touches based on our backgrounds throughout our home.

Yoko is a wonderful interior designer. She remodeled my new place including a living room, family room, 2 bathrooms and kitchen. I particularly like her clean modern style. She designed a custom kitchen with all custom cabinetry and nice leather granite coutertop. She designed a living room with custom furniture including new custom sofa bed, and new built-in units. In the family room, she put in custom light fixtures, recessed lighting, and a custom office desk. Both bathrooms got sleek modern style that fits San Francisco aesthetics. As a frequent traveler to Asia, I fell in love with custom quartz counter and a full-function heated toilet seat. We hired Yoko for two projects: 1. Pick colors to repaint the entire inside of our house.2. Purchase custom window treatments for the family room and kitchen. We were very pleased with the outcome of both projects and got many compliments from our friends on the beautiful looks.Yoko has a great eye and did an outstanding job picking wall colors that would compliment our existing furnishings and accessories. She was very patient and made sure that both, my husband and I, would like the selected color scheme. When it came to selecting the fabric for the second project, the valances for the family room and kitchen, she was extremely helpful with narrowing my many ideas down to the perfect look, offering her own suggestions, but always listening to my wishes. I had a hard time pinpointing what I wanted and kept going back and forth on colors and styles. I hired Yoko to design my bedroom and give it a Moroccan flavor. She selected beautiful fabrics for the drapes, bedspread and pillows. She also selected wonderful furniture. When the furniture was ordered we found out that the chest of drawers was no longer available. She was able to find an even better chest of drawers. Designed a very functional Elfa closet. She was very easy to work with and kept the project moving and on budget. The bedroom was a little less than $19,000 and was completed in 2015.
I was so happy with her work that I hired her to design a Japanese style office for me. The office is everything I hoped for. She incorporated Japanese objects that I already owned. Beautiful, functional cabinets which provide much needed storage space and lovely metallic grass cloth wallpaper.
I intend to hire her when I'm ready to work on my living room and kitchen. More...

I felt compelled to share this review as Yoko Oda and her team at Yoko Oda Interior Designs deserve a shout out!

I remodeled my kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and updated paint throughout our house, as well as furniture in family room. I will summarize what I loved:

•For every mini-project, Yoko offered me several options for color, tile, fabrics, fixtures, etc. (unfortunately this was difficult as I liked them all)

•Yoko kept to my budget, always showing me ways to maximize my remodel dollars (with our savings we were able to do more than we originally thought)

•Design options and advice were amazing

•Yoko and her team are efficient: our meetings were well planned out and covered all issues as necessary (no additional meetings or conversations due to forgotten details/issues)

•We have received so many compliments on our remodel….now I know that it isn’t just me that loves our classy new house look!

I would heartily recommend Yoko Oda and her team, and I have already done so! More...

My wife hired Yoko to update our very tired 1990's kitchen. Yoko is very easy to work with and very talented in what she does. Yoko's style is to create a calm and serene environment by using clean lines and a contemporary aesthetic. I was very appreciative of her understanding our budget and working within those parameters. She really listens to the client and she designs around the client's ideas even when they are different from what she had suggested originally. It was just the right mix of her giving us ideas and steering us towards what would look good and getting the result we wanted. Actually, the result surpassed my expectation.

Yoko has an excellent team to work with. We worked with her painter ,plumber, and Quartz countertop installer. They are prompt, professional, and leave the job site extremely clean even during the height of the demolition phase. We had an excellent experience with Yoko and I am sure you will too. I would describe her design process as balanced. When designing a room, Yoko pays specific attention to the flow of the room in relation to the client's lifestyle. Yoko and her team just finished a full-on master bath and walk-in closet remodel for us and we could not be happier with how things turned out! Her work has been truly transformational and she has added real value to our home...and to our lives. She is the consummate professional and has a great sense of style. Yoko also knows how to listen to her clients and we feel the final product reflects the priorities, needs and desires we shared with her when we were in the early design phase. Even though it was for a short time, I felt very privileged to be able to work with Yoko. She has a keen eye for design, and a great aesthetic. She is good at listening, and understanding the clients desires, but often exceeds their expectations by meeting the clients needs, and delivering even more then what they originally wanted. My wife and I purchased a 1940s rancher that desperately needed a kitchen, dining room, and living room remodel and we wanted to utilize the services of a designer. This was the first time we ever entered into a kitchen remodel. In addition, we were anxious as to whether Ms. Oda could transform our space. The space was dark, small, and claustrophobic. We were really thinking buying this home was a mistake.

When we first met Ms. Oda, we were not sure we could match our ideas with Ms. Oda's ideas. We knew that she specialized in Zen spaces and we did not see the concept we wanted in her previous projects. We sent her some ideas and she assured us that she could use our concept. She was extremely open to our ideas and the plans she presented to us were pretty much what we had in mind. We suggested very few changes.

My past experience with remodel projects was that logistics and cost certainty was always an issue for us. Ms. Oda promised us that she would take care of all the logistics she would try to deliver on budget. She followed through on managing the process and took care of the hassles. Aside from a few add ons that were identified during the permit process or that we requested the budget came in pretty close to what we expected. Ms. Oda was sensitive to our need to stay on budget.

The place looks great. She assured me that we would no longer feel claustrophobic in the space and she was correct. Ms. Oda has an incredible ability to visualize the end results of a project and our trust in her was rewarded. The transformation was incredible. More...

I was so lucky to have found Ms. Oda to help me with my kitchen update! She is fantastic to work with! She is organized, professional, and flexible. I had a specific goal to refresh and modernized my kitchen with resale in mind plus a specific budget to work with. Yoko really listened and understood the goals of the project. The cost and timelines were very clear and upfront. She was also available for many detailed questions and very knowledgeable. I am so happy to sing praise for this insightful, creative designer! Ms. Oda understood immediately what I wanted: I didn't want "stark modern" for my living-dining-kitchen remodel, but I do not like clutter. I wanted smooth and spare, but not stark. I have a few beautiful pieces of art I've collected from my travels around the world, and I wanted to showcase them while carefully avoiding the "Istanbul Bazaar" look. I wanted sensual-sleek with pops of subtle color with art here and there, and that is exactly what I got. Ms. Oda's work is classy, Zen, and refined. She does yin and yang, but no frou-frou. I loved that she understood about lighting and serenity, and I love that her designs for indoor living always have a sense of the elements of nature; for example, our kitchen suggests the colors and the feelings of softly flowing water. Also, for a designer to understand that practicality and artistic design can easily coexist is wondrous! We've never worked with a designer, and we were very hesitant starting our project. From the beginning, Yoko made us feel comfortable and in good hands. She literally took us through the project from start to finish (with the exception on the audio/ video elements). All we had to do was provide ideas of our preferences and budget, and she drew up the design, hired and oversaw the contractors/ workers, and fielded any of our questions and concerns, working closely with us to meet our desires while staying in the budget. She did all of this without creating or increasing any of our worries. She introduced us to most of the workers when they first started, and then they would show up and do the work. They were generally on time, respectful and responsive to our concers. Yoko would show up regularly to see how they were progressing, check their work and note and take care of anything that wasn't done correctly.

We were also very impressed with how close to the initial schedule the project proceeded. We started discussing ideas in August and we were completely finished by December. People talk about remodeling nightmares regularly, and we were all geared up for troubles, none of which materialized. We are are already talking about doing another project with yoko.

Some final thoughts. When yoko first showed us the design board of the room with the lay out, colors and fabrics, we were a little unsure how it would all come together, but we decided to just trust that we had hired a professional for a reason and to just go with it. When the project was finished, it far exceeded our expectations, and we ended up with a room we love but one that we could have never visualized. I think an essential element of this project's success was allowing yoko to do what she does without our interference. And, the result is we could not be happier. More...

All home projects have unexpected imperfections and having someone like Yoko to assist in suggesting solutions or follow-up is so valuable. Yoko did a fantastic job redesigning our dark, dated living room and turning it a modern, bright and beautiful space (which is now featured on this web site! ). Just as importantly, Yoko was incredibly easy to work with and made the entire process easy and low-stress.

During the design phase of the project, it was clear that Yoko was interested in creating a room that matched our style and budget. She listened carefully to our ideas and was able to synthesize our desires with her vision. At times, she even had to help us "let go" of things we had considered "musts" by showing us alternatives we had never considered (and were far superior).

One of the best aspects of working with Yoko is that, once you approve the design, she manages the entire project from end to end. She brings in her trusted contractors to do the work, all of which were very respectful and did outstanding jobs. She also coordinates delivery and installation of furniture and accessories. There was little we had to do other than be present from time to time.

On a more practical level, we also appreciated Yoko's up-front pricing. She presented a clearly itemized list of materials to be purchased with the price for each item. There was never a mystery as where your money was going, which is a good feeling when you're spending this much money.

Thanks, Yoko, for all your hard work and for giving us a room that's both beautiful and practical! We look forward to working with you again in the future.

Yoko did an amazing job with our front room. My wife and I had just moved into our new house, but the front room and entry way was completely bare. After a consultation to get a feel for our likes and dislikes, Yoko came up with some great ideas and came up with a clear plan on how she would accomplish the transformation of our room. After a few months of her getting things together and ordering furniture, materials, etc. she (with the assistance of some her colleagues) was able to truly transform our room into a very comfortable living room.
