Mr. V and the other instructors are phenomenal. Always a positive attitude and high energy vibe. They are incredible at leading my 10 and 5 year old kids and they’re great with the adults too. My six year old son has been training at Matthews Winners for Life for two years and I can only say great things about this school and his instructors. It has been a positive influence in his life in so many ways. Just recently he was dealing with full body poison ivy and needed a boost to his overall morale and going to martial arts class with Mr. Bowen gave him confidence and strength. He is learning life lessons about getting through difficult times, staying persistent and being resilient. I love that we can count on our ATA family to support our kids no matter what. At first I was hesitant, thinking that my son was too young to start Taekwondo (he’s 3), but I’ve seen an immediate benefit in having him in class. They do a great job teaching life skills, which includes physical and social emotional skills like respect and communication. My son took a year break once we moved and had been reaquanted with martial arts through winners for life and they are doing a wonderful job getting him back into the art. We love Winners for Life Ballantyne! My oldest has been taking lessons with Mr. G for 2 years now!! We have noticed behavioral improvements at home (lots of yes ma'am, yes sir. ..) and at school. My 4 yo just started and his favorite part is learning self defense and practicing his kicks. My 7 year old (6 at the time of enrollment) has never really become very engaged with group sports as much as I wanted him to. He has ADHD and does well with sports that are a little more personally focused. Mr. T (at the Concord location) has been an amazingly patient teacher to him as well as a great male role model. The instructors are well established martial artists with multiple world champion titles, the school directors have been friendly and responsive with questions. The class would fit needs of various groups, whether you are here for a daily fitness or develop the child's good character or just for self-defense skills. They have class for children and adults at different levels. If you are really serious about advanced martial arts, enrollment in this school allows you to take class in seven other ATA Winners For Life schools in Charlotte area, where you train with world champions and other well established instructors from all schools for free.I did see the cost comments by other reviewers and I would say that's typical and standard contract term for licensed ATA schools across the country, not particularly for this school. The good thing is free trial class period always available for all interested parents and motivated kids before you make a commitment and once two family members enrolled as students, additional family members take class for free. Plus the self-defense class is always free for all parents no matter how many kids are enrolled.I recommend this school to people who want to keep fit, develop prosocial skills for the kids, or want to seriously advance in Martial Arts.
