We had a lovely evening. The entire experience was perfect, from the valet parking right through the dessert and coffee. The restaurant was full and busy, but everyone was warm and friendly, and not a single detail was missed. Christmas vacation weekend

Lovely, and elegant casual is definitely the vibe.  Went in sweater and boots and little girl was in school clothes, and we were fine.  But it was soft and conversation level was a low buzz with clanking of plates.  They had an enclosed patio, where people were seated, but we were in a main dining area.We chose a bottle of Kermit Lynch Vaucluse red.  It was juicy and fruity without being sweet or acidic. Disclaimer: I know nothing about wine,  this is my attempt to just reflect what I observed.  Did it sound good?Started off with the local oysters, Cape May Salts, the mignonette was flavorful and not acidic, hubby had the lamb cavatelli...  6 hour braised lamb was really done well, I also ordered the crab bisque, which was thick and crabby, slightly on the salty side, but punctuated with chunks of crab as little delightful surprises.I got the crab cakes.  I know, I know, probably not local, and you can get them anywhere, but I LOVE crab cakes.  These were great.  Crunchy panko crusted outside and totally crab, no fillers or breadcrumbs inside.  Complementary sweet tomato on top. Pleasant red pepper aioli Hubs got the Seafood Cioppino, tomato broth, very rich, no heat, but the spices  spicy broth. the seafood was all nicely sized and delicious.  He just had one small issue with some very dry halibut, but the rest of the seafood was perfectly cooked. Focaccia was a little burnt on the edges, but hubby would get the dish again, he loved it.Little girl had plain pasta.  I'm not even going to try to review that.We were stuffed, so split a chocolate mousse tower.  Adorable presentation, with a chocolate tube and berries on top.  Mousse was thick with a good texture, no slick pudding here!  Little girls ice cream was loaded with fresh berries.Wonderful place.  Prices definitely warrant a special occasion, but the food was definitely well prepared and the atmosphere was nice. Beautiful restaurant, cozy room for dinner. The room filled with customers, however, and that raised the noise volume. Waiter and assistants were helpful and available to refill water glasses, get more bread, clear dishes.

We had and absolutely amazing dinner with spectacular service the night before our wedding. Our server (Michelle or Christy? sorry!) made us feel so special. The tomahawk pork chop was delicious and my filet was sooo tender. Omg the scalloped leek potatoes to die for! Bananas foster completed our meal and was the absolute best I’ve had. During my annual sister’s weekend in Cape May to enjoy the kick off to the Christmas season we decided this year to try Washington Inn for dinner. It was as a choice well worth the price Godfrey, our waiter, took such good care of us. When we could not decide on a bottle of wine he sent the sommelier over and she picked out the perfect bottle within our price range. A trip to Cape May is not complete without dinner at the Inn! If asked to tell you my favorite part about dining here, I don't know if I would chose the food, the wine, the atmosphere, the service or the history of the restaurant (okay. . it would be the food! Thank you Chef Adam!) The menu offers a wonderful selection of old favorites and innovative specials. Their wine selection is extensive, but don't be intimidated! What a wonderful night! Great service from entire staff. And to cap it off - we ordered dessert to share. I forgot that I even mentioned on the Open Table reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary. The Inn picked up on this note on the reservation and brought our dessert with candle and "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate around the outside of the plate.
