Outstanding service, great food.. I live in Flowood, MS and I wanted to try something different for dinner on a Thursday night. I decided to try Walnut Hills and made the drive to Vicksburg. Upon arriving, my date and I were promptly seated and decided to try the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer. The tomatoes were very good and the craw-fish that was added only made them better. I ordered the fried chicken and she ordered the rib-eye. The chicken was hot, moist and delicious. My date ordered the rib-eye medium well and it was cooked to perfection. My husband and I were in Vicksburg on Valentine's Day and decided to try Walnut Hills. They had a special menu for the occasion, as well as live music and flowers on all the tables. It was romantic, and the food was incredible! We both ordered the shrimp & grits and agreed it was the best we've ever had. The service was excellent, too. On a mission for Chicken and Waffles, found a review for this restaurant. They no longer had this on the menu, so we looked for something quick, as we were passing through. Couldn't resist the pimento cheese and Louisiana sausage appetizer, an odd combo, but really good. Fried pickles were great. Crab cake/salad awesome. Can't say how the catfish po'boy was, because I was too stuffed to beg a bite from my husband. The prices here might look steep, but the size of the portions was ample. Service was slow since they had a little league team party ahead of us. Our server was gracious, but there was another server that not only bumped my chair in passing, but then tried to run over me on my way back from the bathroom. We didn't mind the delay with the food, because the Blues musicians came on at 6 pm, and if we hadn't had to wait, we'd have missed the best part of the experience. This is a must eat spot if you ever find yourself in historic Vicksburg. We ate at the round table which was a very pleasant experience. It's like buffet style but you sit at a big round table with a huge lazy susan in the middle full of family style foods. It's basically everything on the menu and you enjoy it with random people sitting next to you. The fried chicken is delightful as well as the catfish and the sides. Great Southern Cooking!. Waitress was great with her service. Some reviews mention a waitress from Hell and we have never met her. We like the chicken cooked in canola oil and lowers the fat yet gives you great fried chicken taste. It is not fine dining in my mind, but it is good eating. I want to try the steaks but I can't get away from the chicken! Good food in an 1880 house that has been updated/remodeled and looks great! Now they are adding an outdoor patio screened in! WOW! This one of the best restaurants in Vicksburg. Extremely helpful when I asked for gluten-free/milk free options and were able to tell me every ingredient down to spices. Fried Chicken. Had the Blue Plate special this evening - fried chicken, greens, fried corn, and cole slaw. This was absolutely some of the best fried chicken I've ever eaten. Everything was great! How did I miss this one?. I grew up in Vicksburg. I even learned to play Pac-Man at Walnut Hills. I've never had a negative experience here through the years and changes of management. We were passing through Vicksburg and stopped at their visitor center to get ideas of what to see and where to eat in Vicksburg. A young southern belle in a pink hoop skirted dress suggested Walnut Hill Restaurant. The food was authentic southern cooking.
