In an industry that often lacks integrity Walker Home Design has been a breath of fresh air. My husband & I have been fortunate enough to be a part of new builds & remodels that have been featured in Better Homes and Gardens and other media platforms. When we moved to Utah we needed to find a complete new team to work with. Finding the right team isn’t easy but getting referrals from UHBA (Utah Home Builders Association) is a great start. (We learned the hard way) yes Jamie is high on the list @ UHBASo how did Jamie show integrity?1. He won’t copy inch for inch someone else’s work. (You will give him a 1 star review if you are wanting him to break copyright laws) However you can bring him a design you like. You will like plans more after design by including what you like & adding items that function better. I have yet to find the one size fits all perfect plan. Every plan can use adjusting to fit your lifestyle better. When designing speak up, ask questions that’s why you are there.2. He’s honest & direct. I was skeptical of him coming off a similar poor experience as his 1 star review, I almost cancelled after reading it. I owed it to myself & my friend who referred us to hear Walker out. I’m glad we did. We spoke with Jamie, I actually listened to what he shared. He shared so many insider things I was shocked. I was still hesitant having read the review on Google & Yelp (done by the same person.) Jamie could sense I was still off. So he stopped & directly asked me if that’s why I seemed off. Yes it was. HE ASKED, if he could tell his side. Yes, I wanted to know, every pancake has two sides to it. If you want to know his side of story, ask him. But the fact that he could answer his toughest review spoke volumes.3. Jamie does presentations (I went to 2) that will help you build a better home. It’s much more efficient to hire him at the end of the day because he does a lot more than other people we have worked with. I heavily suggest if you are wanting to build or remodel call the office & see where he is speaking next. He’s much better than HGTV people you can listen to, they won’t share trade secrets like he will. Walker wants you to have a better experience regardless of if you use them or not. See Walker’s list of questions to ask when interviewing designers and contractors.4. Knowing that budget was a concern for building this home, they offered to give us names of other designers in the area who wouldn’t cost as much. He also gave me honest opinions of others I was meeting with, some were better than him.Here’s my tip for you- know what you are paying for. Walker’s price for us included the basement (many don’t include this) it also included the structural engineering. (Again not included everywhere.) 5. They will make you priority when redlines from the city come back so you aren’t waiting 3 months to dig a hole.About our projectWhen we wanted to build a custom designed home here in Utah. We thought we had a great company hired. After 8 months of waiting, 3 of which plans sat at the city, it was clear we need to change companies.We were then introduced to Walker Home Design. They have been responsive & laid out timelines they have met. Jamie has great ideas that help save cost on building materials & minimize waste. When going through our first set of redlines we had the pleasure of meeting with Laura (one of Walker’s Drafters) She was great at making suggestions that could help us as well with layout. We are eagerly waiting for our exterior to be finished in design. Walker’s process to get designs done is one of the quickest we’ve experienced. We didn’t pay for the fast track option which would have had us done in 3 weeks.You owe it to yourself, your project, your contractor, & those who put up with you on a daily/weekly basis to sit down & discuss your project with Walker. It’s definitely worth the time & money to invest.Walker has proven to be one of the best Designers we have pleasure of working with. We look forward to sharing our progress with them. More...

Walker Home Design is a fantastic architectural design firm. Jamie and his staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I have been building custom homes for over 18 years and I have had nothing but good things to say about them. The plans are easy to read and economical to build. Jamie has drawn one of personal homes and it now sits on the front cover of my companies brochure. It’s spectacular! He has also drawn my office building in Draper.
