Left rockafellas around the block because we were profiled at the door and despite their many empty tables we were told there would be a table for 1/2 an hour… OR that we had a very limited time to stay and eat… luckily shortly after we stumbled on the village tavern. Disgusting dishes and disgusting service. I went here last night with my husband and it was so horrible, my glass came out with red lipstick stains on it! I didn’t notice it until after I was already drinking it and completely lost my appetite I couldn’t even eat my food. Never mind the fact we’re in a pandemic and covid is spreading, but herpes is also spread through lipstick! It’s a health hazard. That’s why people aren’t supposed to share drinks or makeup. So gross!!! And the plates the food came out on were filthy, the guy sitting across from us had to ask our waitress for clean plates three times, and eventually just gave up and dipped his napkin in his soda to wipe it himself, then just took his food to go. I paid my bill for the food I barely even ate and I left no tip considering the circumstances and we weren’t even there that long. On our way out the waitress named Mary chased me down and harassed me about a tip and had the whole restaurant looking at us. Self entitlement at its finest. What makes her feel so entitled to receive a tip from me that she feels the need to chase me down and harass me from across the restaurant about not receiving a tip? Last I checked it was a choice to give a tip based on good service, which she very much lacks. When I asked to speak to the manager a man who identified himself as “the owner” told me to leave out of the back door. Absolutely disgusting in every way, this is the way things are run here at Village Tavern in Salem. I’ll definitely never be returning to this place again it should be shut down for how dirty it is. Oh and you better leave a tip or Mary the waitress will come hunting you down demanding for one. After looking at the sarcastic and rude responses from “the owner” on google reviews, it’s no wonder this place is trash, because it’s run by trash. Such good food and drinks in a fun welcoming atmosphere! We sat at the bar, the bartenders were all amazing and friendly! Our bartender helped me order food that was gluten free and dairy free . She even asked if it was for celiac (it is) and verified with the kitchen to make sure my food would be safe! Also the trivia was fun! We will definitely be back next time we're in Salem! More...

A group of my girls and I went to village tavern for lunch two days in a row because the food was absolutely amazing . The location was also right in the middle of everything and where we needed to be also which worked out perfectly . The staff at the door got us in very quickly for a large group . Both days we went were great but our first day we had the pleasure of having Jessica as our server . She was absolutely amazing !!!!!! I can't even put into words how amazing she made us feel . A lot of the locals made us kind of feel bad for visiting Salem but Jessica did the opposite . She made us feel welcomed and she made us laugh and she was attentive ( when we knew she was busy af ) and she was overall just an amazing spirit . We absolutely loved her . She made some time to tell us about some things around town that we did go visit and loved , she gave us the time of day . Which was all we could ever ask for when the restaurant is that busy . She got our drinks out fast, our food came out fast and it was hot and soooo delicious and the whole service was amazing . We wanted her as our server the second time we went but she wasn't in yet , but we did see her on our way out and she remembered us said hi to us and even though we know she was having a sad day due to tragedy she had a big smile on her face and gave us all hugs and it was just so amazing . I have been a bar manager and worked in the restaurant business a long time over 14 years now , and she is someone that stuck out to me big time . I wish her and the restaurant nothing but the best , thank you for giving us fast service and a smile when we know it was craziness everywhere . So thank you Jessica and the staff of village tavern ! Came in with good expectations but waitress too hurried. Some food buns were like rocks but could not say anything until end because not checked upon. The most shittiest experience I have ever had at this restaurant the bartenders were unprofessional not pleasant and rude. The bartender talk to me in very rude way with another guest who is sitting beside me regarding the IDs. Also I wanted to someone to clean the bar cuz is so sticky and not clean at all, I said take your time and she said I have too!!! Plus the way she asked for ID was so rude. I asked Zach if that girl having a bad day he said no. So he went back and told her, we were waiting for someone to take the order, Melissa came and asked and left!!! The other rude girl she don’t have name tag came again to us my friend asked her we would like to order food Melissa left for long time, she said oh I thought you didn’t like me? Huh what ? Both my order and my husband's order were wrong. I ate mine because we had been traveling all day and I was starving. (If you have food allergies, don't rely on the cook getting the order right. ) They brought him out a new order, which was correct, but cold. That's after waiting 20 minutes for them to bring it out. My family and I stopped in for a late lunch yesterday and it was awesome. My daughter and I had the French Dip and it was great. The mouth watering sliced prime rib and the delicious bread made it the best I've had in years. My gf got a burger and she was very happy as well, it looks wonderful. We visited today for the first time to celebrate my daughter’s 16th birthday. The hostess was so kind and understanding when we requested a more private table than the one we were seated at and our server was so friendly and attentive despite how busy he was. We had burgers and steak tips and the portions were generous and delicious! I really liked the decor also, so homey and the fireplaces were lovely. My daughter works at a neighboring restaurant and I know how hard the restaurant staff works and how short handed most restaurants are but if that is the case at this restaurant I never would have guessed!
