It is hard to get a real black and white cookie in Tucson that is light and soft like the ones I had in New York growing up. I took a black and white cookie home to my husband who is a expert at the taste of cookie since he has been eating them since he was a little child back in Brooklyn New York where the bakeries are to die for. He was extremely impressed. Village bakehouse has the best tasting black and white cookies and the staff and owner are so friendly. I have also had their lunch, soups sandwiches. Village Bakehouse Bananas Foster French Toast on rich challah french toast topped with candied pecans was very sweet and tasty. BYO Omelette with bacon, sausage and ham with toast and red potatoes was a good choice and was loaded with all the items at a reasonable $8.99Chocolate Chip Pancake ale carte was a very good size which took up  the entire plate. My partner and I go to Village Bakehouse a little too regularly ;). While you can order a decent breakfast or lunch here, they are first and foremost a bakehouse. The baked goods are delicious! Hint: when you order breakfast, they're happy to let you sub a cranberry orange roll or something similar for the toast. Yum! We've enjoyed many, many of their European-style treats such as Chocolate croissants, almond bear claws, strudel, macaroons, ischlers, hamantaschen, opera cake, etc. All are fresh, flavorful, and very much what you'd expect from a good European bakery. If you're more into cinnamon rolls and muffins, they offer tasty--and large--versions of those too. We really like the blueberry and pumpkin muffins. They are moist, flavorful, and filling. My mom loves the nut-topped cinnamon roll. During the holidays, we special order blueberry lemon rolls which are filled with fresh blueberries and covered in a lemon glaze. The Bakehouse offers classic cookie favorites such as chocolate chip and molasses, some European varieties, and 'healthier' versions like pumpkin penuche. Our niece and nephew really like the classics, especially the decorated sugar cookies. My favorite is the molasses, which has the deep molasses flavor offset by just the right amount of sugar on top. My partner likes the pumpkin penuche with the hardened penuche on the exterior giving way to the soft pumpkin cookie. The Bakehouse's cakes are far better than what you can get at a grocery store bakery. They offer a large variety of cake and filling flavors, and they can decorate as little or as much as you'd like. We usually get the smallest round for family gatherings. My favorite is the vanilla cake with chocolate mousse filling and chocolate frosting, and my partner's favorite is lemon cake with lemon filling and vanilla frosting. For the holidays, we order apple and pumpkin pies, which are larger and much tastier than any other bakery we have tried. They always go first at our family gatherings. Yes, the interior space is pretty small, and the food on the regular menu is pretty average. My rating is for the bakery because that's what this place is all about. Bon appetit! More...

Searching for a cake? Add Village Bakehouse to your list. They can do almost anything you could imagine even on short notice. We ordered a Boston cream cake for a birthday the day before and they hooked us up. The cake was perfect and there were no leftovers! Village Bakehouse is TUCSON classic. I am extremely pleased with the cake that was made for my daughters nursing school graduation. It was decorated perfectly. She was so excited when she saw it! Not only was it perfect in design but the taste was excellent! We had a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting- her favorite! It was a big hit! They delivered it to the restaurant where we had dinner and when it came out it looked beautiful! One of the servers had to bring it by her table to show the physicians she was serving. This place is AMAZING!! I LOVE everything here!! Whether you are looking for breakfast, lunch or something sweet or just a great mocha! The staff are very friendly and truly care about the customers! The sandwiches and salads here are made to order and fresh!! The  cakes are absolutely delicious!!! I get cakes here for my friends and families birthdays and for holidays and last minute parties at my home. Everyone raves about how good they are!!! Cake! Cake! Cake! I think about it often and when I do Village bakehouse is the first place i want to go to satisfy my cake craving! Their cakes are always dense and moist, perfectly balanced flavors hit your palate and play a musical melody!! A true sign (to me) of stellar desserts are those that are not overly sweet, and bakehouse has this perfected! I've had their pink champagne with buttercream frosting and every bite was sheer delight. One year I ordered chocolate cake with peanut butter filling - a childhood fantasy come true! I am hooked. I tell anyone and everyone who will listen to me talk about how amazing Bakehouse's cakes are! I have had their other sweets and pastries as well and they too are amazing. I got the most gorgeous cake ever made for my wedding. I went to several tastings and they not only had the best tasting cake, but made the cake for half of what others were quoting me and all the cake was real whereas other places would have used fake layers for some of the cake.
