A great website accomplishes it's goals. For some companies that might mean generating sales, for others advertising, lead capturing or brand awareness. Design your website geared toward your goals, monitor traffic and site statistics and constantly tweak things with the aim of always improving your site.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
It's always important to speak in depth to clients to find out what they're looking for - what they are trying to accomplish with their website. It's very helpful to ask clients to share websites they admire as well as those they don't. Visuals are key. What's "blue" to your client may not be "blue" to you. I always ask to be linked to an example of what a client wants.
