I have been here twice since the patio opened- once for brunch and again today for dinner. Food and adult beverages were DELICIOUS and servers were awesome both times! My family members can be very particular/picky eaters and they loved the food as well.Live music this evening was an added bonus for a nice little family outing. This is definitely going to be in the regular rotation (for both date nights and family dinners!) More...

What a great addition to area restaurants. Â We have been there twice. Â Pre pandemic 5 stars. Â First week of being able to go back to eating at restaurants 4 Â stars. Â The reduction in stars is due to a reduced menu that ended up with one party member loving their entree and another disliking theirs. Â The manager noticed and provided a replacement. Â That action gets a rating of 5 stars. Â This new restaurant is trying in a time that is difficult. Â Looking forward to visiting again when the menu is increased. More...

I have wanted to try this place since before Covid and took the opportunity with a friend today to give their tent dining a try. The food and service did not disappoint! The food was seasoned creatively and the bar choices for beer and cocktails to compliment meals was excellent! My lobster roll appeared to have at least a tail and half of lobster included. The dressing on the roll was light, unique, and flavorful but did not overpower the taste of the lobster. I plan to go back to try the other 3 or 4 things on the menu that caught my eye. More...

Fast and easy order by phone, curb side pick up. Easy parking in their lot and access from the street too. Outstanding pulled chicken and pork. Fantastic baked beans. I loved the corn bread, even though it didn't taste like classic corn bread. It was more like a tender biscuit. Hard to describe, but it was delicious. Amazing mac & cheese. The whole thing just really did it for me. And they were so appreciative of getting our business. Just a really good service vibe from them. Great spot. Really cool modern barnyard decor with a large bar. They recently opened and Im really rooting for them. The portions are massive and I hope that they dont change that as they grow. The big portions actually just somehow work with the feel of the spot. Also it isnt just big its also quite tasty. Try the pretzel and the phenomenal cheese curds (only $5!). My friends had the glazed pork which they said was amazing but I must say that I found the presentation to be quite weird. The only negative was that their desert menu is quite limited. I dont usually mind this as when you dont have a baker in house its best to stick with the basics. That said it pissed me off I asked it the ice cream was made in house and they confirmed, stating the icecream was "homemade." Unfortunately, I saw them scoop it from a brand name carton. Still that didnt stop me from enjoying the brownie sunday! More...

I typically don't take the time to write reviews but I couldn't stop thinking about the amazing meal and service that we received last night. There were 7 of us out to dinner to celebrate my sons 26th birthday. Â We started with wings and candied pork belly. Â It was just enough for us to not spoil our dinners. Â I along with the birthday boy got the duck grilled cheese. Â It was excellent. Â Everyone else got something different, Mac n cheese, chicken and waffles, baby back rib special and the ragin' Cajun. Â All of which were delicious. Â We actually shared small amounts of our meals with each other so that we could try a bit of everything. Â (We've never done that before) Not one disappointment. My first time here and we went on a Tuesday night with my toddler. The atmosphere was amazing--relaxed and rustic with the perfect foodie vibe to it. I am giving it 5 stars because I feel that compared to comparable restaurants in the area this exceeds expectations. The waitstaff was incredible. Very welcoming and attentive to our needs as a family with a young child. My daughter has never raved so much about a restaurant before! I had the 1/2 chicken with garlic mashed and Swiss chard. It was flavorful and beautifully presented. It was a tad undersalted for my taste but I would much rather add my own salt than have something overly salty so I did not mind. My daughter had the Mac and cheese which impressively was very good (I would have eaten it myself!) and the banana toffee cake was incredible. My mom got some pretty awesome cocktails. Overall the experience was pleasant, the food was delicious and I will definitely be back for date night or with my family! More...

Review based on 2 visits and rating is really 3.5 stars rounded up. First visit we ordered the house potato chips (don' t bother), duck grilled cheese (just ok) and salmon. 2nd visit we had the korean bbq wings (delish), straw burger (very good) and the fig prosciutto flatbread (very good). We are bar people so both times we sat at bar. Service at the bar has been good. The activity behind the bar seems chaotic. Usually for a place this size there a couple of bartenders. At times there seemed to be 5/6 people behind the bar, just seemed chaotic and innefficient. The food on 2nd visit was better than first. The house chips were not crispy at all. If you are going to charge $5 for handfuls of house chips, they best be damn good chips. The duck grilled cheese was meh...salmon was good. All items on the 2nd visit were very good, and served in a timely manner. My only negative on the burger is the price. $16 bucks for a burger is couple bucks more than I would expect. Egg or no egg, it's a burger! Give me a break. A slightly better beer selection, especially draft would be good. Would def try this place again. Overall good, not great. Wow, I loved this place. Â It is very nice inside and I was a bit surprised to find out it used to be a VFW. Â The layout matches that a bit but it was light and airy. Â Our waitress was very good. Â She gave me recommendations which I always appreciate and she was honest if she hadn't tried something yet. Â After passing the dish on the way in, I got chicken and waffles. Â It was spectacular. Â The chicken was crispy and had a bit of heat. Â The waffles were a bit crispy as well with maybe sugar crystals? and wonderful syrup. Â I stuffed myself because I didn't think waffles would reheat well at home. Â My friend got the taco board which had pork that night. Â It seemed the perfect size. Â She ate everything on the plate and ordered dessert as well. Â I can't recall what it was but she loved it. Â Some sort of cake with bourbon maybe. Â I will admit my Negroni Spritz was a bit strong so the details were fuzzy. Â I liked it so much I bought a gift certificate for a birthday gift and cannot wait for that person to try it. Â The menu had multiple options I would like to try and being only about 15 minutes from my town, this will become one of our places.Thank you! More...

LOVEeeee Union Straw. Worst thing about this place are the uncomfortable chairs at their high top tables. The bolognase IS THE BEST thing on the menu. Flavorful sauce, good amount of protein. I've had it both on pasta and spaghetti squash and prefer the sweetness of the squash paired with the savory sauce. Fried cheese curds with apple butter appetizer is a  fun twist on the conventional fried cheese sticks.  We've even been to brunch a few times. The muffins are a must. In general, I am a fan of chicken and waffles and couldn't wait to try them. I've only gotten them once at Union Straw and assumed it was just an off batch. My waffle was rock hard. Flavor on the chicken was good though. More...

I’ve eaten at Union Straw many times and have always enjoyed the experience and food. A friend and I stopped in for lunch on a Thursday. I ordered a Fat Pilgrim sandwich with no bacon, I don’t eat any pig products. We enjoyed our meal and paid the bill. Later that night I looked at my receipt. I was charged $1 for no bacon. I’ve never experienced this at any restaurant!! I could understand if I added bacon but to not have it And the waitress never mentioned the additional charge. An instant favorite on our first visit there last fall.  A kicking drink menu, solid beer list and inventive menu make it one of the best joints to go south of Boston.  There's a vibrant atmosphere in a well designed space There's much to rave about - including the warm, happy staff - but rarely do places nail everything perfectly. Here's an honest assessment of 2 visits.  October  Jumbo Chicken Wings ($12)- House Hot Sauce & Blue Cheese.  Ordered extra-crispy. Could be the most perfect wings ever had.  Sauce had a killer balance of sweet/salt/savory.  Texture was spot on - crunchy skin & succulent inside.  Duck Grilled cheese ($17) -  Duck Confit, Cranberry Bread, Bourbon Apple Butter, Caramelized onions, Blue Cheese Mustard, Fontina cheese.  She requested the mustard on the side and quickly declared that it was a mistake.  It really punched up the flavor so she put it back in it's rightful place inside the sandwich.  Elsie: Didn't dig the cranberry walnut bread.  Loved the blue cheese reunited with the duck.  Me:  One of the best grilled cheeses around and huge reason to keep going back.Kama Jama Chicken Sandwich ($15) - Fried (There's a grilled option for weirdos who fear fried chicken). Cheddar Cheese, Spicy Slaw, Chipolte Ranch Dressing. My 16 year old son didn't put it down until it was gone.  His commentary was mainly happy grunts thumbs up gestures.  The guy is a fried chicken connoisseur, so we can judge a sandwich's merits by the speed at which it disappears down his gullet.  This one gets an A rating.Flatbread ($14) - Fig Jam, Baby Arugula, Prosciutto. Scattered shreds of unlisted cheese, possibly fontina.  Crisp base, tender top.  Prosciutto  balanced by fig spread and tangy sweet of balsamic glaze.  Candied Pork Belly ($12)- Secret Dry Rub, Pineapple Habanero Glaze. Had immense potential:  Loved the flavor but seemed to lack salt.  So meaty & lean you'd think it came from a hog with 6-Pack abs.  Arrived on the medium-cooked side.  Could really benefit from a fattier strip and a low, long cook before a final, high heat crisping to order2nd Visit, Dec 2019Jumbo Chicken Wings ($12) -  Forgot to order extra crisp as before.  Sauce was still banging but the skin was just ok.  Note: always ask for well done wings anywhere you go.Shrimp Po' Boy ($15) - Cajun-Dusted Popcorn Shrimp, Cajun Remoulade, Spicy Pickled Vegetables.  It looked really, really nice!  My son ingested it before anyone could sample.  Refer to Kama Jama Chicken Sandwich review above...The Ragin' Cajun ($21) -Shrimp, Andouille, Mussels, Okra, Roasted Corn.   Definitely needed more cayenne kick to be Ragin' but more importantly it needed salt.*  But there was still something impressive - all the components were perfectly cooked.  Pretty common for restaurants to stew everything together like somebody's ancient bayou granny, yielding shriveled, tough seafood and andouille exhausted of its tenderizing fat.  Here the shrimp were still plump and snappy, the sausage juicy with it's flavor shining through and the vegetables just soft enough.  Pump up the seasoning and this dish goes from OK to awesome. *Most items at Union Straw are well seasoned though there are some misses.Chicken & Waffles ($18)  Honey Hot Sauce, Honey Butter, Bourbon Apple Butter & Bourbon Aged Maple Syrup.  Here's an interesting one.  The sauces at Union Straw generally kick ass, the Honey Hot Sauce, Honey Butter, Bourbon Apple Butter and Bourbon Aged Maple Syrup are no exceptions.  And the waffles are dynamite - yeasty, hearty and a pearl sugar crunch like the best ski resort waffle slope side treats. The problem is the fantastic fried chicken is the only savory foil in the dish - covered in the honey hot sauce it a struggles in the all out sugar assault of everything else.  It needs is a succulent gravy or some umami packed sauce to bring the sweetness to equilibrium. With mainly a couple of seasoning hiccups, this is still one of the best restaurants in the  region.  I keep ordering Duck Grilled Cheese take-out to savor alone in my car... Having gone about 4 times in the last 2 months, I think I have enough to offer up a accurate review.  Not the biggest place, and can fill up very quickly, but ample waiting area and the wait is worth it.  The menu may not be the biggest, but they turn it over often enough that there is always new things to try.  They have a large bar, and as someone that likes sitting at the bar (eating at the bar) that is a big plus.  They utilize "Runners" to deliver food, so that helps to assure your food arrives hot.  The items on the menu are always unique and have a lot of flavor.  They have a wide range of creative apps and they are all large portions and most are almost a meal onto themselves.  The wait staff is friendly  and engaging.  The only small negative is a significant lack of parking, but its worth the short walk.
