I had the family jerk chicken meal. The chicken was amazing. Be warned it is spicy, but I love spicy! The rice and beans is just ok, but the chicken is so amazing I had to give it 5 stars. I've eaten there twice and both times the chicken was amazing. More...

A very strong 5 star rating! Food is fresh and delicious. We got the jerk breast meal and the shrimp curry meal. We also got the rum cake. All tasted homemade and flavorful. The restaurant is very clean and the service is friendly and professional. We ate outside on our tailgate because we had our dog with us. They brought our food out to us and offered to bring more napkins or anything else we might need as we ate. What a well run business! Can't wait to go back! More...

Two stars for customer service but the food doesn't taste like Jamaican food. It was nothing special and I'm not coming back

We ordered the family curry chicken and one jerk chicken entree for a family of 4 adults and 2 kids. It was plenty with just a smidge leftover for another meal for one. The chicken in the curry was moist, flavorful with just the right amount of salt. My mom was pleased that there was no fat on the meat. The side of rice was mixed with beans, soft and fluffy. The mixed steamed veggies were seasoned so well (even my picky kids loved them!) The sauce was soo yummmmy - smooth and full of flavor. Oh and the plantains - my goodness the plantains. Take a bite with every bite of the chicken/rice- sooooo gooood! The jerk chicken was also moist and had an entirely different flavor. At times, I would feel the heat, but it was done just right. Even my parents who can't handle heat at the moment loved it! Bonus, all their entrees except for select sweets are dairy free! You're welcome! :) You are seriously missing out if you haven't tried their food! More...

Good food experience made great by the wonderful staff!I've been wanting to try Tru Jamaica for a while now. We were finally able to stop by today. I ordered the Jerk Chicken. My wife had the Rasta Pasta with chicken. Overall the food was good. The chicken had good flavor but I was wanting more spice. Scotch Bonnet peppers are so delicious and I was missing some of their heat. The Rasta Pasta was good not great. The beef patties were very good and reminded me of what we ate in Jamaica.I will eat here again but I will order other things to try more of the menu. We also had the zucchini bread. It was a little dry but had good flavor. More...

I just relocated from Florida to Waco, so I was super excited about finding this little place. Unfortunately Tru Jamaica just does not hit the spot. The chicken had no flavor what so ever. The steamed veggies weren't steamed? The rice was just ok. The plantains were the saving grace for the entire plate. I purchased 3 sodas 1 juice and the dinner plate for $28 The ladies up front were super nice and the wait wasn't bad the food came out nice & hot. The pineapple ginger juice was amazing. Also the chicken is cut up chicken breast. Not bone in chicken like I am accustomed to. Honestly I will definitely go back to try out some of the other items on the menu. But as far as the curry chicken is concerned- I wouldn't recommend it. More...

Fantastic food and very friendly serviceThree of us visited today (Saturday for lunch). We had Jerk Chicken, Jerk Shrimp & Curry Goat. All meals were very tasty and just the right spice. I wish I had taken pictures, but the food was good and we were very hungry :-) The jerk chicken was very tender and pretty much just fell of the bone. The Shrimp had a good blend of vegetables in the sauce. After the meal, we split a piece of Sweet Potato cake. It was the right ending to a great meal.A lot of the reviews have mentioned about the friendly staff, and our visit was no different. The team answered all of our questions and were very welcoming and friendly during our time there. The location is not in the main area of restaurants so you have to intentionally go there. It will be well worth your time and I am willing to bet, it will not be your last time there. More...

We were so excited to see an authentic Jamaica restaurant in Waco that we dined in! The ambiance was great but heavily lacked air conditioning. No bueno when the temp outside is 102 and the food cooking inside added to the humidity. The food needed more flavor but was ok. Portion sizes were terrific for the price. Pineapple ginger drink wasn't freshly made, taste more from the can. Sorrel was a bit on the sweeter end for my taste, but the kids loved it. Staff and owner were super friendly and accommodating when the food took longer than normal to come out. All that being said, they did just open up at the start of the year so they have a lot of time to work out any kinks in the cog. If you are not familiar with Jamaican or caribbean cuisine, this is a great starting point! Overall rating is based on how uncomfortable it was to dine in the heat and the food needing more flavor. Will come back to try different items on the menu!! More...
