My Dad and I stopped here for dinner while we were in Williamsburg. We both got the field greens salad and the regular Angus Burger. The salad was good, I liked the dressing a lot. Our burgers were also really good, and I liked the mix of cheeses. My only complaint was that I ordered my burger rare and it was more medium/medium-rare. I would recommend this place for a nice dinner in Williamsburg! More...

While visiting Colonial Williamsburg, we decided to dine at a one of the nearby restaurants. We chose the Trellis Bar & Grill which is part of the Colonial Williamsburg Merchants Square. It's located between Colonial Williamsburg and William and Mary College. We had reservations and were seated immediately. The menu had a nice selection of dining choices. I ordered the braised pork shank with pork belly cassoulet and southern greens; my wife had "The Burger" sans the bun; it was topped with American and Swiss cheese, bacon. lettuce, tomato and red onion. We both enjoyed our dinners very much. Our waitress was attentive and helpful. If you're visiting Colonial Williamsburg and are looking for a nice dinner spot, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the Trellis Bar & Grill. You'll have a very nice meal in a relaxed setting. More...

First of all the location is great!  Second it is a relaxed place with decent prices.  We had a party of six  and Sue was our waitress.  very friendly and laid back.  Decor and lighting worked for fun or romantic dinner.  Ordered two bottles of the Pinot Noir at $30 per.  Decent.  I had the mixed green salad which had a light dressing and Parmesan.  Yum!  Good start.  Bread plate could do better, corn bread yum, others eh.  Had shrimp and grits... so yummmmm!!! ( I don't know what the basic one is like so I could not compare). My nephew had salmon dish... cooked perfectly.  Overall the whole experience was great!  Only thing... don't ask Christine what time it is ( just kidding). .  Relax and enjoy! More...

My wife and I popped into Trellis on Saturday morning after perusing the excellent farmers market. Craving some breakfast we were a little disappointed at how limited the breakfast menu was: only three options (and they were out of the salmon). Despite the limited menu we both loved our breakfast platter dish. The dish came with Eggs (I got scrambled), crispy bacon, delicious cheesy grits (which I don't normally care for), potatoes (solid if basic) and amazing fluffy biscuits with butter and jam. Nothing fancy but hit the spot perfectly for the day. The coffee was quite good as well. Extra points for good service. More...

Absolutely delicious lunch after a long tour at William and Mary on a gorgeous day.  The wait was only 15 minutes and we didn't mind sitting outside on the bench on such a gorgeous day.  We had the muscles for an appetizer.  Extremely flavorful and just a splash of wine to make the broth perfect.  My son had the bacon and oyster salad and I had the cLub sandwich for lunch.  Very tasty and big portions.  Our waitress was excellent and attentive.  Just a downright lovely experience. This is an outstanding restaurant with food that is just superb. All of the staff with whom we interacted were friendly, polite and knowledgeable. I had a pan seared black bass with fingerling potatoes, sun-dried tomatoes and fresh asparagus. All of it was excellent. The wine list was extensive and all of the wine that we tried was great. Prices are pretty high, but you're going to get that in a restaurant that's in the middle of Colonial Williamsburg and serves such great food. My rating system for restaurants is three stars for restaurants to which I would return, four stars for restaurants at which I would like to be a regular and five stars for those restaurants to which I would drive out of my way. My friend and I arrived here at 1:00 on the first beautiful, warm Saturday of Spring.  I was pleasantly surprised that we only needed to wait 15 minutes for a table inside (they said an outside table would be closer to a 45 minute wait).  My friend got the hot roast beef sandwich and I got the Italian market sandwich.  Our sandwiches arrived after only about a 10 minute wait -- quite satisfactory.  My sandwich, of which I could only finish half, was delicious!  The bread was the star of the show, although the meats and cheeses were also very tasty.  My friend said her sandwich was also delicious, and we both really enjoyed the super crispy, homemade potato chips.  Then we decided to split a dessert.  We ordered Death by Chocolate.  Dessert took 25 minutes to arrive -- quite UNsatisfactory!  Why the heck would dessert take more than twice as long to arrive as the meal  Especially when there were fewer occupied tables when we ordered dessert than there were when we ordered our sandwiches.  About that dessert -- BEWARE:  the Death by Chocolate is large enough to provide dessert for a family of six.  Maybe more.  I wish our waitress had warned us about its size (and the wait time) when we ordered it, but I guess she figured that's why God made take-out boxes. This place is amazing. The Burger is literately the best burger I have ever eaten in my life.  The perfect crispness of the bacon.  The juiciness of the burger. The way the meat juice spilt down my face. The toasted bun. Everything. Image the day your first child was born:  there you are standing in a hospital, finally getting to hold your newborn son. You look into your beautiful wife's eyes, then look back down at the bundle of perfection in your arms.  You never knew you could feel such pure happiness, never knew that love could be so strong, so real.  A crystalline tear forms in your eye and drops down, splashing on the soft brow of your child. You wipe your eye and smile a soft, contented, smile. Life is good. You thought nothing could top the happiness you felt, but then you tried this burger... A nice but not over-the-top "nice-and-white-table-cloth" kind of place which achieves a perfect balance of a delicious meal and/or treating yourself while not feeling out of place, underdressed or whatever. It may be the ambiance, which is is inviting, with warm colors, filled with sunlight and some rustic (but not in a cliche way) charm. Or it may be the service, which is friendly and efficient but not intrusive. And of course, it's the food. My colleague and I had the salmon crab cakes over salad, which was delicious and filling. The crab cakes were perfectly crispy and simple, packed with seafood (as opposed to filler) and served overtop of a salad of mixed greens, feta, red grapes and a delicious, complex vinaigrette. Non sequitur note: Back in the day, I had the Death by Chocolate cookbook (from which I never made anything as it was more advanced than I was as a cook at that stage of my life), but I have to admit it was somewhat exciting to go to the place where that all started and where they still have it on the menu, even if we didn't actually purchase the dessert! My colleague said that she had shared it with 3 others when they got it before and they still couldn't eat the whole thing. Anyway, more to look forward to! More...

The Trellis surpassed expectations! Came here for lunch because of a gift card. Was surprised to learn it was restaurant week, got nervous, sometimes service can really slip when a place gets that busy, not here! They were certainly on point and we got to try so much, out waitress was wonderful too. Very approachable, knowledgeable about the food and most importantly warm and friendly. This was everything a nice restaurant should be. We were super pleased with the turkey sandwich and the quality of the bread was amazing. I ordered the tuna and chicken salad mistakingly expecting a green salad,  it was mayonnaise-based but still very good. It was a huge portion, and extremely filling, with giant scoops of chicken salad and tuna salad along with a little garden salad and giant fruit cup. The fruit cup alone was impressive with raspberries, blueberries, pineapple and melon. It also came with two large pieces of pound cake. The dessert was an amazing raspberry and chocolate bread pudding. I've honestly heard stories of how pretentious The Trellis is and I'm disappointed that I never came to check it out myself, because it's simply not true. As we sat at our cozy table in the sun overlooking DOG Street I realized It's beautiful and I will definitely be back. More...
