Trailside Tap is probably one of the freshest new restaurants to Ankeny. Located in the Uptown District, it brings great eats and a fantastic atmosphere to the area. During the warm weather, it provides a spacious patio with yard games like bags and pong as well as having one of the only shuffleboard courts in Des Moines. The food at Trailside is constantly evolving with their seasonal menu bringing new items in throughout the year. Not to mention their weekend specials featuring new creations every week. The food is wonderful, the atmosphere is refreshing, and it’s located right off the bike trail next to the Ankeny pavilions. Highly recommend for date night or a family outing! More...

The food was great! We stopped in for a bite after a ride and were suprised at the quality of the food. Everything was prepared well and the chef has develpoed flavors we were not expecting for a taproom kitchen. They need to change the name to the TrailSide Kitchen. Trailside Tap just a huge thank you for making Toni’s bug birthday a success! You served 15 people and every appetizers did meal was perfect. Oh don’t forget the great drinks. Our server was perfect. Thank you. We love your outdoor patio so much that we go alot and have always had great food and service. Every one who works there is so nice and friendly. I don’t know whether the food is good or bad, but we sat, on a Wednesday night, for 20 minutes after the hostess escorted us to a table, without further acknowledgement. Business was obviously booming, the patio was full, inside nearly full, and 7 staff either behind the bar or on the floor, a simple “we see you, we’ll get your water and a waitress will be with you as soon as possible” would have been nice. These guys no joke have some of the most scrumptious food in Ankeny. every time I come here the food is always delicious everything I’ve tried on the menu so far has been innovative and tastes amazing. I have traveled a lot over the course, I have experienced a lot a fine dining in many different places so I really don’t like throwing around the word “best” But I can 100% guarantee you that this place will hit your honorable mentions list with a bang at the very least. Food is always good except for tonight...cheese curds soaking in cold marina sauce-yuk! Not crispy either. Bartender doesn’t understand muddling vs mascerating. Took drinks to bar to ask for them to be strained. He obliged. Meanwhile the manager stepped over to the bar to see what was up. Manager never said a word to us. Not even on the way out.
