This restaurant was so good that we came back a second time a year later while on vacation. The popcorn they serve at the beginning is delicious and a great way to start a meal.  The atmosphere is beachy - it's great to watch surfing videos in the middle of winter in Vermont!  Each burrito is better than the next and the Mexican street corn is yummy. I thought it was a nice touch that this place brought (deliciously seasoned sweet/spicy) popcorn to your table as a complimentary starter. Cozy and fun atmosphere. Tacos were a good size: we tried the pork, fried fish, grilled fish, grilled steak, and grilled shrimp. I liked the grilled steak best. We also had the chips with guacamole, it was decent but not especially memorable. The real star of the show was the plantains, the maple glaze was absolutely delightful! If you go, make sure to get those plantains! More...

Very good Mexican food, located in...  WRJ Vermont? This place is pretty bizarre, but in a good way. Themed around adventure sports (skiing, bmx, surfing, Motocross etc) The music is great if you enjoy surf punk, ska punk, that sort of stuff. I do, but I could see it turning some folks off. The bar is a work of art. I don't want to spoil it, you just have to see it to believe it. The staff is professional and friendly. A+The food is the real star here. Creative takes on Mexican and South American food, though the lense of southern California. The street corn was a real highlight. Tacos were very good, and the carne asada burrito is a beast. Prices are perfectly reasonable, both on the food and drinks. All in all, I'm giving Trail Break an EXTREME 5 stars! A must stop if crossing Vermont! More...

The nachos, you guys! Don't be fooled. They look simple but it's a flavor explosion. I love coming here with my husband after work and grabbing a great beer from their interesting and excellent selection. The burritos and tacos are all fresh and tasty. It's not Southern California carne asada, so don't come expecting that, but it is delicious and the vibe of the place is fun and laid back. It's always busy here for a reason. More...

So happy to discover this hip little taco joint while in White River Junction for work. Fantabulous decor: an explosion of bright colors and repurposed gondolas, chairlifts, skis and snowboards. The menu is fun and unique, the beer list is comprehensive and well put together, with categories of types and good descriptions. The cocktails mostly sounded too sweet and frou-frou, but I did order one and it was well balanced rums and fruit juices. I got the two tacos and a side dish for $12: one was blackened mahi mahi and the other was fried perch. The blackened one was great, and I ate that first, along with my chips and guacamole side. That was a mistake not to eat the fried fish taco first, because by the time I got to it it was cold and tough. The largely cubed chunks of fruit also did not work on a taco at all -- it was impossible to keep any on the taco so it had to be eaten separately. A better idea would be a much finer dicing or even a purée of the fruit. The guacamole was good, though nothing unique about it. Still a very satisfying find in this sleepy little downtown area that feels as hip as the strip of Pine Street in the South End of Burlington. Finished off with two five ounce pours of some fun new "milkshake" style beers: Two Roads Nitro Orange Creamsicle & Left Hand Flamingo Dreams Nitro. The Flamingo was awesome, the Creamsicle just fine. More...

Had the Raspy Rascal to drink and to eat, the street corn, and two tacos; the low maintenance and the daily special which I subbed the meat out for jackfruit (at our servers awesome suggestion) . Great spot! Excellent outdoor space. Very relaxing place to enjoy the sun and then with friends. Our waiter was attentive which made it easy to keep ordering beers off their extensive tap list with some real gems on there. also because she was attentive we could sort of cycle through small plates as opposed to eating one big meal. My boyfriend thought the tacos were too complex - he would have rather had a list of all ingredients they had to make the tacos and then he could put them together (like a nice pizza place does). He didn't like the combos they had assembled as the taco choices. I am sad to be leaving this area soon as I would I easily make this a frequent hangout for the amazing outdoor space and very good beer selection! More...

Today was my first time here, and let me tell you - this place exceeded my expectations by a mile! When you walk inside, the decor makes you feel as though you're in Southern California with surfboards, bright colors, and fun usable chairlifts. Music was upbeat at an appropriate volume. Various artwork displayed beautiful surfing portraits on the wall. Our waitress, Catherine (?), was super friendly and relatable. She gave us ample of time to decide but punctual. Popcorn was given as soon as we sat down, and the food and drinks came out quickly. I do wish that my sampler beers came out on a flight plate and not individually on the table. As far as the food, highly recommend!! The street corn was so tasty with the creamy, tangy  sauce and crunchy popcorn crust. It was grilled to perfection and left me wanting more.  I ordered the chilled and blackened fish tacos. I'm thankful for the lime that was seated on the side of the plate as it was a great vehicle to tie in all the dish components. The chilled, raw ahi tuna taco satisfied me completely with some crunchiness, avocado, and delicious tuna. Though the blackened was also good, I wish there was a pickled element to the taco. Overall, I was impressed with this place and it's moderate beer selection and creative tacos. I will go back again for any occasion! More...

We ordered take out from here before and loved it, so we decided to stop by to visit. Let me just say, the tap list is quite beautiful! Most of my ratings (and willingness to visit again) is frequently based upon the tap list. A lot of local beers, as well as domestic micro brews throughout the country; some rare. I was undecided about two drinks and they offered me a sampler of both; not many places do that. We ordered the half nachos with chorizo chilli for an appetizer and they were quite delightful. The only problem we had with this dish was that it wasn't delicate on our stomachs because of the oil, chorizo, and cheese. However, it was incredibly tasty and the nachos were crispy and obviously homemade. We both got burritos (which we had before and loved): my partner got the (not so) standard and I got the left coast. The burritos are super large (we didn't finish them) and incredibly tasty. The carne asada is well seasoned and quality meat. The only disappointment of the meal were the FLIPS, which we thought would be more churro-like. We weren't that impressed and found that they were too plain, and the sauce was not that great. Not sure if it was the amount of spice or the type of chocolate, but it was just not...right. Overall, great meal, we just wished there were better dessert options More...

One of the best dinners we've had in the last ten years.   In terms of ambiance, service and food, this was unforgettable. Family and friends and the food made it possible.  We'll be coming over here again. Trail Break is located in a new building still sporting for rent signs. Even then, given the recent proliferation of restaurants, arts and nightlife in this once sedate town, parking can be a problem during peak hours. We parked by the rear of the restaurant with only two or three parking spots left available. Walking down by the side towards the front entrance, we noticed the ample al fresco area with an old ski lift chair and as well, an old gondola car as functional parts of the seat space.  Several groups were having animated conversations with their dinner. Once inside, the place is airy, clean, modern, ample and friendly.  We were ushered to our seats in a jiffy and our waiter, Clint, an energetic and eager server, attended us during our dinner. Trail Break is Mexican infused food with an avant-garde twist.  They've taken everyday plates and turned them into culinary creations. Simple stuff like popcorn or corn on the cob become feasting items.  The watermelon daiquiri is an elixir of the gods. Crab Rangoon to feast on. And tacos that transcend reality. The Ahi Tuna tacos we're indescribably sumptuous.   There was not one offering that wasn't just delicious. To top it off, the waiter brought over their Churros for dessert. A little bit of Spanish churro infusion, a little bit of New Orleans beignets, a little bit of Mexican spices.  Yum. Clint, our server, was amazingly helpful in explaining the culinary intricacies of this eatery. And Topher, the owner, was equally as helpful and justifiably proud of his creation. I will admit that when my friend suggested that we go to "this place that has good tacos," I assumed that it was going to be a typical or traditional Mexican restaurant that served authentic tacos, burritos, etc. Upon entering (and reading the menu), I was pleasantly surprised at the non-traditional, surf-ski vibe, modern, tapas-style taco shop.  Being a non-traditional, Mexican inspired place, the menu was a little confusing at first, but the waiter quickly and happily gave recommendations and explained the menu. He and the manager (I think it was the manager) were attentive and ensured we were satisfied during our visit.   The tacos weren't authentic. Whatever. They were pretty good. Flavorful and loaded. I had the 'grilled' chicken and 'roasted' pork tacos - both were good, but I liked the chicken one better. Next time I'll try the fish tacos. The best part of the meal had to have been the street corn. Top notch! Like seriously, I could drink beer and eat the street corn all day. OK... I'm going to need a few tacos as well. Maybe some chips and salsa, too. TB has a full selection of craft beers. With so many interesting and enticing beer options, I was hoping for a sampler option (maybe there was one, but I did not notice it on the menu) to try a few at once. It would be a cool addition if it is not already an option.TB has a fun, bright atmosphere.
