Total Design Furniture

I have been a nit-picky particular client, and Marc has been absolutely great to work with.  You can specify exact dimensions, images/renderings of couch designs, fabric, similar models, and Marc will work closely with you to make that happen.   What's most impressive is that the price is a fraction of the cost of designer brand furniture.Our order took much longer than expected, but to be fair, our order was made before the holiday season...and great service with great prices will come with a large volume of orders.I've even requested to stop by and see the progress and production of our couch, which was pretty fascinating to see.  They are a design-build operation that is very accommodating for individual everyday consumers (for any designer out there, you know this is rare).I also noticed previous reviews had complaints about delivery, but when they delivered to our place, everything was meticulously wrapped with so much plastic and care (maybe they noted the previous reviews).  They were careful yet quick.In terms of quality, the price range is fairly reflective of of the quality.  Marc gave us several options of cushion and padding that were accommodating to our price range, and suggested different ways to fill the cushion to achieve different volume and feel with maintain our price range.  Our couch feels like a freshly made one; it will need time to be broken into, so we can say too much about the 'feel' yet.  I'll update this review in a few weeks - but I'm certain it will feel just as nice as the ones that Marc showed us.Lastly - Marc is very tallented, though his handwritting isn't (lightly joking)100% custom design with extremely great prices! I've had my furniture for nearly a year, and I still feel like it's too good to be true. My husband and I were in love with our furniture from the moment we saw it. We had it delivered across country and it arrived well within the time that was quoted to us. It's high quality, comfortable and beautiful. Love the sofa! We visited their shop in El Monte and Marc walked us through the different styles of sofas and helped us decide on a style that we liked and was able to meet our customizations plus the addition of an ottoman to fit the style of the sofa. This is a long over due review! My husband and I purchased a sofa and 2 chairs with a coffee table back in the summer of 2017 and we are extremely happy with the way our couches look. They are the color we were looking for and the chairs match it perfectly (they aren't the same color but go together). I am posting this review a year later because my husband and I were chatting this morning on how much we love our couches! I worked with Marc and his assistant and they were both friendly and professional. The turn around time was about 4.5 weeks but we were made aware from day 1. We are looking into getting some more furniture this month and can't wait to see what Marc creates for us!!!! Definitely recommend TDF, their items are made here in the US which is a PLUS for me. We felt so lucky to have found TDF.  Mark made us a sectional that retails for around five thousand dollars to fit the exact measurements of our room, and with the fabric we chose, for less than two thousand dollars. The work was done flawlessly and in a timely fashion, and Mark even arranged for delivery to be included in the pricing.  We also had him reupholster a headboard and to do some work on two chairs of ours, and he came to pick those up and delivered those along with the couch.We would definitely recommend Total Design Furniture. Just received my custom designed cough from TDF and I couldn't be happier with it.I had a specific idea of what I wanted for a couch and didn't have much luck finding what I wanted at the furniture stores. Luckily, a colleague told me about Total Design! Not only was I able to get the exact couch I wanted, it was at an incredibly reasonable price. We could not be more in love with our couch. I live in NYC and Marc did a great job customizing the couch to fit our space as well as offering to send us samples of fabrics so we could feel out what kind of texture we wanted. Marc's team worked extra hard to ship it out to us before Christmas. Incredible customer service they were very fun but professional and accommodating. These guys are real artists! We showed Marc pictures of a Danish modern sofa from the '50s. We liked the original model, but decided to pick the colors, the fabric, the wood, the measurements, and all the details that make a piece of furniture really custom made. Today we received the sofa, and I must say that it's one of the most beautiful Danish-modern-inspired pieces I have ever seen in my life. The piece turned out to be much more beautiful than its original source of inspiration!It is true that it took a while to make it, but by taking a look at the pictures that I am posting along with this review one can understand the level of craftsmanship achieved by this local business. We just had our couch delivered and WOW! It's even more beautiful than I imagined. Mark is awesome and his team is just as awesome. I'm simply amazed at how this couch looks and feels. It was our first purchase of a couch and we almost went with a cheapie from another spot but I'm so glad I decided to check Mark out. He was easy to work with and I showed him a few styles I liked and bam, my very own couch. This was still less expensive than those stores like west elm or crate and barrel and I love the fact that it is made locally and I'm supporting a small business! There's no halfway on this one: for LESS than the price you'll pay to get a standard couch at a Buttercup or Raymour and Flanagan you can get a COUCH MADE TO SPEC from these guys. I've now had TWO couches made. I even got a knockoff of the orange couch from Mad Men made for my office at one point. And it was under 500 bucks. Think about that. A new couch that looks vintage, exactly how I wanted it. And for less than the price of some Ikea couches.Granted, it's kinda in the middle of nowhere. But when you get there you and Marc will go through fabric and types and specs and in the end, you'll cut him a check for half in an 6 weeks you pay the other half and get a perfect couch.FACT: When I moved out of LA I ended up FLIPPING that orange couch for more than I paid for it.Also, there's an AMAZING carnitas place next door. TLDR: Their furniture is amazing quality-to-cost ratio. But things take time to build if you're ordering custom. Would order from them again. I wanted a sectional that was- modular- modern- easy to clean and maintain.- can seat a large number of people- can sleep at least two people comfortably.With these in mind, Marc very kind and patient in helping me lock down the design.- walnut base (no particle board)- cushions are easy to wash/replace.- each piece clicks together securely to form any layout.- reasonably priced - ETA 6-7 weeks for completionBecause they were moving locations and due to the custom-nature of the design, it took longer than expected to build (10 weeks). Really great experience. Worth the drive to El Monte. We did our homework and this guy is the best in custom furniture especially for the money. Couch came a day late so he took some money off without having to ask. When our beautiful couch finally arrived (worth the 6-8 weeks) it had some glue on it from building it - they came right back and shampooed it, brought back the couch next day and he once again shaved some money off the price without me asking. After visiting countless furniture stores, my boyfriend and I were never able to find that perfect couch that would fit into our living room. Everything was either too big, too pricey, or just too ugly. We decided to check out Total Design Furniture and it was the best decision ever! Not only was the sectional exactly what we wanted, but it was actually cheaper than all those other couches we looked at at the big box furniture stores. Who knew custom furniture would end up being cheaper?!? We certainly didn't! Marc and his crew delivered a beautiful piece of furniture! Marc and team delivers impeccably  built pieces that are stylish, functional, and durable.Had taken delivery on this custom sofa (10 ft x 13 ft) and the modern mid century walnut media cabinet and couldn't  be happier! Marc helped us "draw up" the design schemes and a  few weeks later, the product arrived (on time) "spec'd" as we had designed.Stop by their intimate showroom where you can see many of their works. I couldn't recommend Marc at Total Design Furniture more - excellent service, super cool guy, gorgeous quality work and unbelievably affordable. We got a custom mid century style 8 foot couch, an ottoman and delivery (to Eagle Rock) under $1000. We got to chose the fabric, shape, cushions, buttons, legs and softness/hardness. Marc is knowledgable and quick to respond via email.But what takes the cake is that I made a huge tear in the ottoman (about 10 inches) with a box cutter (very stupid accident) and he repaired it within the week. He quoted us under $100 but when we came to pick it up he said it was a fast fix so didn't charge us - amazing!! 5 stars+ without a doubt. More...

We had a custom couch made by Total Design Furniture because we needed a couch that would fit a specific area in our house.  We visited the store and gave them the dimensions and a picture of a couch that we liked from the internet.  From there, we went over fabrics, stuffing, couch feet, color...etc.  I communicated solely with them by text afterwards.  I really like that because I don't have to call and get status...etc.  A few weeks later, the couch was delivered to our home.  We love the couch! I ordered two Z Chairs and a Matador Sofa from Total Design. Marc, the owner, held my hand through the entire process, exploring multiple ideas until we both landed on the color scheme that best fit my living room and current color scheme. Total Design's prices, notwithstanding the furniture being made to order, was roughly 300-400 less per piece (and better quality) compared to a West Elm or Crate and Barrel. He told me the order would be ready in six weeks-- the pieces were delivered six weeks later. I was so satisfied with my purchase that I bought another z chair as a gift for Christmas. Total design furniture was recommended by an acquaintance so after checking it out online, my hubby and I drove over.  Their style of furniture wasn't exactly what we were looking for, but we had been at almost every store and two other custom furniture houses, and Marc's estimated price fit our budget.  His wood frame has a lifetime guarantee, but because of the city he is located in, he wasn't able to spray our couch to protect the fabric. No biggie, as the price was great and we decided to spray it ourselves. we just chose a higher quality fabric that would last, figuring in a decade, if we needed it, he could cover it again. We sent him pictures of what we wanted, a bit more traditional than his style, and he nailed it.  Delivery date is far from order date, but that seemed to be the standard and we were willing to wait. I had read on Yelp some complaints that they were not responsive to sending product updates, but that wasn't my experience.  Marc responded to all of my text requests for updates promptly.  The guys who delivered the pieces were very sweet and quick. After a few weeks, my couch developed a squeek. I called Marc and he promptly sent a team to pick it up. It was fixed, and sent back with a throw pillow that he had forgotten to send the first time.  The bottom of the sofa had a slight tear when it was returned, so the next weekend Marc sent out a guy to my place to replace the whole bottom. Searched high and low for a large maple dresser.  Found expensive designer dressers or kids dressers that were not good quality.  While searching online, found Total Design Furniture.  Based on all of your great reviews, we decided to give it a try.Drove down to Total Design Furniture to ensure they were legit.  Met Marc and sent him my husbands drawing of an 8 foot dresser drawer.  He didn't have any questions.  Quoted us 5 weeks since they had several orders ahead of us.The dresser was delivered in 6 weeks, which was close to Marc's estimate.  The extra week was worth waiting.  This piece of furniture is beautifully crafted!  Heavy as heck though, so we might need to sell it with the house.There were delivery guys that did a great job!  They were very careful to ensure no damages to the dresser or my walls!  As you can imagine, an 8 foot dresser would be hard to maneuver through a house.  There were some challenges with getting it off the truck, bumps in the driveway, walkways, and a couple of corners.  These guys were so quick and professional throughout the process.  They were sweating from head to toe!  When I apologized for the inconvenience, they said they were just doing their job.  How refreshing, right?I don't think we will purchase another standard piece of furniture again since Marc can manufacture quality at a reasonable price! We had our sectional for many years, so it was time to replace. We wanted something simple, modern and very easy to clean that's also durable, so naturally ruled out those fake bonded leather sofas since they will start to crack & peel after a couple of years. After shopping around various furniture stores around the greater part of LA County, we couldn't find exactly what we wanted, or it was way out of our price range (Beverly Hills stores) Then, we came across TDF, a custom furniture place that can customize & build to spec. The raving Yelp reviews seem to be consistent with the exception of a few bad ones, so we decided to move forward. After a couple of visits, we were able to narrow down the size, color, material and shape. We met with Marc, the owner and discussed the options available, heard his suggestions, provided a sample photo and paid a deposit for him to get started. Marc said it would take about 7 weeks to complete due to his company being busy and he was on schedule. The end result was fantastic. The sofa came out to be exactly what we wanted. It fits our living room very well, provides spacious comfortable seating and looks great! We've enjoyed it for no more than a month, so I can't comment on durability or wear. In addition, his delivery guys were prompt, courteous and efficient. I look forward to doing business with TDF again. This is a business I will refer with confidence.
