I first experienced this grocery store-restaurant years ago with a friend, and remembered it being excellent. It's quite a ways out for me, but I always wanted to come back. I finally made it back! Ordering was a bit difficult and chaotic, but service was friendly. I decided on a quesadilla with Puerco Verde, or Pork with Chile Verde. I also ordered black beans and rice. I had my order to go. Once I arrived home I first tasted the beans. They were amazing! Rich and flavorful with a complex savory flavor profile. The rice was tasty, if a bit dry. The quesadilla was wonderful! The house-made flour tortilla was toothsome and went perfectly with the rich pork. The pork was tender and the green sauce delightfully tangy, in a way that melded artfully with the rich flavors of pork and cheese. A great place that is earnestly down-home and delicious. More...

I visited this place because of all the good reviews. I was kinda disappointed. I got the taco plate combo for $10.99 and there was barely anything in my plate. I guess I was just expecting more for the price. The food was delicious but I won't be visiting this place as much. I heard of this place for several months and thought to myself today.... i am going to grab a burrito and eat on it while running errands. Â That's not possible at all, well maybe for some but it wasn't happening with me. The burrito is huge (see picture)!!! Not only is it huge it is absolutely delicious. So let me stop right there and say the only reason i give it a four is that the pork in this AMAZING red sauce was just a bit to fatty. Now don't get me wrong, i enjoy some marbling in my meat but there is a fine line in to much. Will this keep me from ordering it again..... HELL NO!! . Â My intention actually is to bring my husband, so that on my 2nd visit i can edit my review. Â The staff is friendly and courteous and you can hear the crew working in the back laughing and talking. This place is the best burrito in Portland no questions asked!! Lets start with the rice, perfectly cooked and full of flavour. Then the beans, the perfect constancy between hard and soft. This cafeteria style restaurant inside a Mexican grocery store is hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Portland area. They offer a wide range of options, including multiple guisados, tamales, burritos, tacos, and sides. I almost always have a combination plate with pork verde, black beans, rice and corn tortillas. I’m originally from SoCal so finding legit Mexican food in PDX has been difficult, but Tienda De Leon was amazing! I finally found a comal, tortillas and some bomb salsa! ! The owner, Señora Francisca must have sensed I was super homesick. She made me two taquitos to enjoy while I shopped. **Señora Francisca fue un placer conocerla, muchas gracias por su compañÃa ayer. Also lots of different candies and other sweet goodies.Quick friendly smiling service.We had the chili relleno and the taco plate.Everything was tasty.The meats were tender and juicy with nice seasoning but the soft taco shells fell apart.The one thing that was different was the chili in the relleno seemed under cooked but was still tasty.Not sure if that's a different style than we are used to or a misstep.The beans and rice were both good with nice taste and texture.We liked this place with its south of the border vibe and good music that isn't too loud.Oh and massive kudos for the trump piñatas.
