Tony Roma's

I try tony Roma's first time at universal studio city, I think that time I ordered Clams chowder soup and 1 rack of baby back ribs still love the test and when I move to Honolulu I saw it on kalakaua ave so of course I try again absolutely still good if you have a chance to come by Honolulu must try pretty coo.

I should have written this review several months ago on our first visit but I'm glad I waited until our second visit because it confirms our first impressions.  We hadn't been here in years since the Pearl Ridge location closed.  We were hesitant because of several of the reviews but there really isn't  any other place that we know of for ribs.  I'll be referring to both of our visits which both were dine in.  both times we went before the dinner crowd so it was empty and were greeted and seated quickly.  To the point, the food was great!  We started off with a full onion loaf.  On both visits, it was cooked to perfection. Nice and crisp and not oil drenched. there were several times at the Pearl Ridge location that the Onion loaf was under cooked and oil drenched, not here.  I ordered a full rack of Baby backs with coleslaw, baked beans and a side of rice.  the ribs were perfect with nice texture and char with a nice chew and at least you knew you were eating pork.  It wasn't fall off the bone which I don't like because the texture then becomes almost like mushy meat.  the coleslaw was crisp and fresh.  the beans were nice and not mushy and went well with my rice.  If you read my other reviews I make a big deal out of rice.  I didn't expect much but was surprised that the rice was cooked perfectly unlike some other plate lunch places that can't get it right.  For me, the sides are just as important in the enjoyment of the meal.  My partner ordered the St. Louis style ribs with rice and corn on the cob.  and her food was great too.  So kudos to the entire staff being the  greeter, waitress and cooks.  My partner had a birthday coupon which made it an awesome deal.  I'm firm on 5 stars because of the consistency on both visits and all around service and quality of the food.  Until we find a better place for ribs, we're going back again. We had a book club gathering at Tony Romas. The acoustics allow us to have a conversation without difficulty. The food was great and reasonably priced and the cocktails were wonderful. Let's start off with a WOW!! We went to eat there on Halloween day and Jeanne and Terrance were our servers. The service was superb! There was a few of us eating there and it was only them two and we not once felt neglected...we were checked on frequently...our drinks were always topped off...& the food was brought warm and was soooo delicious!!! Tonight, we enjoyed a wonderful meal because of the fantastic service from Lauren. She was friendly and when asked, gave great suggestions and our dinner was great. She is professional and an asset to your facility.I would return just for her great service.The food was also wonderful. Filets, grilled to perfection, nice loaded baked potato and I enjoyed the baby back chili. Why Tony Romas left our state when it was always busy is beyond me. At least we can eat here when we visit Oahu. They are still fantastic! Good service. Nice atmosphere. Decent decor. We come for the food...and it did not disappoint! We got the appetizer sampler and the ribs sampler with beans. So much delicious food. We ended up eating it for 2 more meals! Meat was delicious. Service was remarkably slow. Warm, fresh tasting bread was a nice treat. I had the Star Studded sampler with broccoli and cole slaw. Came here using a BOGO birthday certificate.  We went early for a Sunday dinner, they have commentary Elite valet parking. their lot is small compared to the size of the restaurant, which is right across Ft. DeRussy.  Started with their house bread which was awesome then their famous onion loaf, oily cooked crisp on the outside but the inside wasn't, still it was great as I remembered it from my last time I had it at the Aiea one that closed years ago.  Our server was good and she explained all the different ribs. Baby back most tender vs. St Louis more meaty.  I opted for the Baby back ribs combo with the salmon which was grilled to perfection, her explanation was spot on,  My wife knew she wasn't going to finish her full rack of St. Louis ribs and asked for her two sides to be fully loaded potatoes, take home dinner for another night.  My waitress knew I was indecisive with my choice of topping and she brought me two on the side...Because we were there on my wife's BD I asked if they do anything for birthdays, your choice of coffee or vanilla ice cream. There was a guy that came around and said that you can get a free postcard with our photo on it... He came by at the end of the evening with the post card and our photo was somewhere in the center about an1-1/2x2" photo of us...He then tried to sell us larger ones that he had in a nice matted frame. Told him that we just wanted the free one. then he offered 2 for 1.... after we said no, He mumble "What eva" and left.  He seemed to be selective as to which table he too pictures of but if you are offered this free postcard photo, pass on it.Kamaainas (Hawaii ID) get a 30% discount.  Ask for it! I'm from Los Angeles, where steakhouses and rib joints run rampant. Whilst in Honolulu, my group had a hankering for ribs. Where else should we come than Tony Roma's? I hadn't been to a TR's since middle school  (I'm 25) but this visit was perfectly nostalgic and reinvigorated the pleasant memories of sauce covered fingers and bursting bellies. Our server John was quite attentive; even with the many requests for bread and soft drink refills, he remained cordial and spry. I ordered a full rack of baby back ribs with original BBQ sauce (what else?) and the meat fell effortlessly from the bone. Even as the restaurant began to fill with hungry travelers, I was mesmerized by the ensemble of meat, sauce, and potatoes that lay before me. The last time I ate at a Tony Roma's was around 15 to 20 years ago in Reno, Nevada. I never ate at one in Hawaii. I've past this Waikiki location hundreds of times, thought about trying it but never did stop until yesterday. Boy was I pleasantly surprised at how good it was. We went for lunch & they have a new Kamaaina rate I saw on TV just in the morning, so of course we took advantage. Do you know they have Lobster there?! So, I haven't eaten Lobster in ages- splurge time! They had Lobster & small rack of ribs for $35. The ribs were fall off the bone delicious & the Lobster was great too with lemon & butter. The sides I had were fries & coleslaw. They were the best I've had in a long time. Lobster plate was only $16. The Kamaaina rate was for Mon thru Fri 11 to 3p- you gotta buy 2 entrees .  I'll be back! More...

Had st Louis ribs for the first time, they were delicious.  They have a new bread , they just got today. It was service hot with creamy butter. Its was so yummy.
