Although my counselor was really great, Jeremiah V., the company scammed me out of extra money for my deductible. Always was 5 or 6 dollars w/insurance, last payment over $50, never again!

Thriveworks is been the best source of therapy I have ever had. I initially had a great therapist I was able to talk to, which is actually part of my issue, talking. I decided to stop therapy but realized that I needed some more. I initially was doing remote and decided to do in person instead. I thought if they had one great therapist that they might have more. I was right. My second therapist was also very effective. If it wasn't for my two therapist, I don't know how I'd be doing. Actually I do, definitely not as good. I highly recommend Thriveworks and much thanks to Anna Settle and Todd Newman.

Btw, bad reviews may be based on people in distress. It's easy to say bad things, it's really hard to get to the point of saying good things.

My first intake appointment had to be canceled, and the family member who was also attending was unexpectedly hospitalized for an aggressive pneumonia. I was not able to get ahold of anyone for weeks and when I finally do, I am told to submit discharge papers in order to avoid the $135 late fee. I submit them and spend an hour on hold for them to tell me the documentation is not sufficient. The family member was in the hospital for several months with this infection, and therefore, the date is past the appointment. I am STILL on hold asking for a supervisor and have not been granted one as the system is experiencing "updates". DO NOT make an appointment with Thriveworks. More...

I told the therapist (Dretha Burris) that I have Complex PTSD. In our 1st session she told me in detail about both of her adopted daughters major traumas. I froze, but had to stop her. Afterwards I have had bad dreams from her re-traumatizing me. She's obviously unprofessional and lacking in education. I reached out several times to Thriveworks to complain. NONE of their posted numbers allow patients to contact anyone directly or to leave messages. I've sent emails and tried contacting via their website - no replies at all. More...

Tried a family session with a counselor named Charlotte Williams. She could not have been any worse. She suggested the most irresponsible things, and was clueless on the topics being discussed (a family member with substance abuse issues). It was horrible. And, it was virtual and she was not alone. I could hear other people in the background including a baby that she ended up picking up on screen during the session. This is a violation of HIPPA laws. I filed a complaint with the licensing authority but of course the only response I got was that they did not take disciplinary action though there may have been an agreement with the provider for the provider to take additional training or make other adjustments, and that agreement - if it existed - is confidential. Thriveworks said they would fire her. They didn't. She still works there. They also refused to refund the money because they already billed insurance. LOL What a crock. More...

WORST PLACE ON PLANET EARTH! I was going to them for a little while because I loved my therapist but the actual company is such a scam. They would randomly charge my card and I would ask what the charge for was for and they had no reasoning behind it. My insurance was covering visits 100% yet they would still charge my copay. I stopped going to them over a year now but I am now starting to get threatening calls telling me that I have a balance of $115 and they will send me to collections if I dont pay it - I confirmed with my insurance company that they already paid for that visit in full. Yet Thriveworks is coming at me saying that i owe because of a duplicate charge which makes no sense because that would be on them for charging the insurance company for the visit twice? Anyways absolute shit show... what a shame. This company is supposed to be all about improving mental health when all they do is make it worse. This place should be shut down. More...

EVERYONE, please read before using their service. This company is a scam. The Doctors/therapists are not but the company is. They overcharged me and then I disputed with my credit card and paid the correct amount. They kept sending me text and emails saying I did not pay and threaten me that they will send me to collection agent. I reported them to BBB and waiting for them to resolve this for me. If you google them under complaints with BBB there are tons with similar situation as me. Please don't use them you will have more stress fighting with them to get your money back and give you bad credit if they report you. More...

I dropped out of TW after a few weeks. First, they ask you for your credit card to be on file, before you even get started. Then you sign a wavier giving them permission to charge your credit card any time. Second, they bill you before your insurance gets the bill. They charged me too much & they knew I was only responsible to pay for my 20% of the bill. Then they told me to contact my insurance company. Third, they billed me for 2 doctor visits when I didn’t even see the doctor. They charged me for a doctor visit just bc I didn’t fill out the forms. Watch out bc after your 30 day free trial (they didn’t tell me about the free trial until I told them I am not interested) they will charge you their membership fee. I go there to get treated for anxiety and they made it worse. I can say that my Psychiatrist-(Armeshia Lawrence)was very good and nice. I don’t want anything back from TW. I just paid my bill in full then I found someone else. It seems to me that TW is only out to get your money.😡😡😡 UPDATE!!! Today 11-1-2022 I received another bill from TR stating I have a balance of $30. I am going to contact BBB More...

DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CARD INFO. This place is a scam! I signed my daughter up in January so she could see a counselor while she was in virtual school and was feeling the stress of lockdown. They asked me for my card info to keep on file incase of a "no-show" for appointments as well as the monthly fee. She had 3 appointments every other week with the same woman, but decided she didn't vibe with the counselor. She (the counselor) asked my daughter the same preliminary questions and didn't seem to remember who she was every time they met so we figured it was useless and a waste of money to continue. Even with insurance, each session cost $90, which we paid at each visit. I cancelled her upcoming appointment over a week before the date of her next appointment. This was in February. Several months later, in June Thriveworks took $230 out of my account. Today, after not using their service for 8 months, they took $396 out of my bank account. I have called my bank to change my card info and started a chargeback. If you value your hard earned money, do not use this service!!! I wouldn't be surprised if the employees weren't even licensed. Thriveworks is a scam. I had a handful of sessions with a therapist back in 2020, but then she had to leave the practice due to a family situation. .. I said goodbye and thought nothing of it.

TWO YEARS LATER I find out that I've been charged monthly the entire time on a card I don't check often... In that time, they've sent me no invoices, no receipts, no indication that they were charging me for anything. Their website shows no patient information, no booking or billing records... it doesn't even have my full name.

You can only cancel by calling them directly. They will only refund the last 2 months worth of payments.

I'm guessing they only started sending "receipts" last month because of new federal laws against surprise billing coming into effect.

HORRIBLE- not only do they never tell you that they will be charging you a HIGH monthly fee, but you also have to pay a ton of money for a therapist. Then when you find out you cancel, they still charge you even after they promised you they wouldn't charge you. Thank god I had this all in writing. I went to my bank and uploaded all the documents and proof and my bank believes me and what I was told. SCAMMY! Shameful. What is even worse, the directors of their company have no empathy or tact. In fact, they are downright rude and care more about themselves. Don't bother. Check your health care provider and see if they have teladoc, you can get free therapy that way. More...

Please do not use this service. after one session, it was determined that I was incorrectly referred to Thriveworks because they were out-of-network. I immediately cancelled BOTH my follow up appointments and the monthly membership. They have continued to charged ever since. I called twice and the last rep I spoke to last month assured me that she removed my credit card number and that I wouldn't charged again. Also, when I asked to be reimbursed for Feb and March, she insisted that the policy would only refund me for one month. It's not a coincidence that other reviews on here describe the similar experiences. This place is a fraud and please be careful when signing up for this service. More...

This is the worst company I've ever had the displeasure of working with. Protip: “Thriveworks” Counseling Service operates on a reoccurring monthly billing cycle. Their business model is calculated to keep billing you a $39/mo “enrollment fee” until you make a point of calling them to cancel the subscription.

For some families, this is a ticking financial timebomb. In the case of my friend, she asked her troubled 20-something kid get into counseling & offered to pay. Her kid signs up for Thriveworks, has a few unsatisfying telemedicine calls, decides Thriveworks isn’t working, and stops making new appointments. Thriveworks, however, keeps on billing my friend monthly, as if her kid is still in counseling and still receiving a service in exchange for the reoccurring bill.

Six months later, Thriveworks refuses to reimburse all those unused months and their reoccurring billing. Welcome to the cynical world of the “subscription economy,” where companies like Thriveworks maximize profits by billing no matter whether they’re providing a service or not. I’m sure Thriveworks is thriving, but at whose cost?

Had a 1hr appointment slot, took 10 minutes on our first ever conversation to diagnose me with Bipolar when I came in with the World Health Organization adult-self-screener asking about ADHD. Was prescribed 2 bipolar medications (which I for sure did not take) and then a second appointment was scheduled without my consent. And had they diagnosed me with ADHD in 10 minutes, I also would have been concerned and not taken the meds because you cannot take 10 minutes to diagnose a person. I cancelled my membership and got contacted several times again as if I hadn't. Finally seemed like I had gotten off their list, but lo and behold I have been contacted again. As if I am still a client. I have reported them to BBB and plan to seek further legal action if they will not leave me alone. I am so afraid that somebody out there is living with a lazy diagnosis and taking meds that may well hurt them because Thriveworks is so unprofessional and does not seem to care at all about their clients. I have been using your services for the last 7 months and have experienced the most infuriating billing and insurance process. I would like to begin this with how unresponsive and unhelpful your call center for billing is. On numerous occasions both me and my wife have been on hold for over 30 minutes before one of your representatives fumbles through our issue. BUT the issue that has brought the current fury of pissed off customers is that your company has billed and accepted money from my old insurance United Health Care for January sessions; that I switch to self pay (ask my therapist). And now you are refusing to refund United healthcare. And they are demanding I pay the funds (when I have already paid thriveworks). THAT IS INSURANCE FRAUD AND THEFT!!!! I demand you pay back the money you wrongfully accepted from United Health care. You have caused me mental distress and financial anxiety. I will never use your services again. I will never let my family or friends use you. You can see mine and my wife (Robin Andrews) notes that your billing representative has "taken " in the past for details. More...

Thriveworks originally asked me to call and make an appointment locally, they told me they all shared the same office, I live in Charlotte NC. They said the soonest they could get me in was the next week in Raleigh (3 hours away), they said I could switch back to Charlotte after. I allowed them to do an assessment for 35$. I then canceled the appointment as I found someone local. They continued to charge me for 4 months plus a cancellation fee. They refused to even refund any part of the funds they took, while I received absolutely no service.

Avoid at all cost.

I cannot say enough good about this place. They honestly do strive to get you in to see a practitioner quickly. And the importance of being seen soon to someone who is at a bad psychological point cannot be understated. It can, literally, mean the difference between life and death. After years of no longer being able to trust mental health providers due to so much misdiagnosis I reached out to Thriveworks. I asked for a particular practitioner, and they had me in to see her the following day. Kristy's approach was welcoming, empathetic, friendly, and down-to-earth. She did not speak down to me as a patient, but she made a comfortable effort to connect from the beginning. Gaining my trust over several weeks she was able to start showing me some things no one ever took the time to extract. She found me at the precipice of a terrible situation and worked me back from the ledge. Her input to Zack, along with his personable and empathetic personality, finally got me on medications that actually have improved my situation more than I could have ever imagined. The combination of her therapy and the medications have me, for the first time in decades, recognizing a hope for the future. All I can say is if you are that person who has lost hope and feels as though you have no purpose, let the Thriveworks team have a chance to show you a you even you didn't know existed. Without hyperbole I can honestly say I owe my life going forward to Kristy and Zack. More...

Thriveworks Buffalo is a fantastic place to work. Management truly want their counselors to succeed in private practice. They do whatever they can to help their counselors in any way possible, both administratively and clinically. Counselors need only worry about providing clinical services to their clients, as management takes care of everything else that comes with private practice. Other counselors in the office are very friendly and willing to offer advice or share their professional, clinical knowledge to colleagues if it is requested. Truth be told, however, counselors don't see each other much, as they are busy with their clients and may only see their coworkers in the common areas between clients. This is fine, because counselors are there to see our clients. Management does a great job scheduling new clients. Counselors are expected to keep up their caseload by doing excellent work with clients, which keeps them coming back repeatedly. The office is beautiful, modern, and clean.
