I love this place. I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about. It's clean, they have plenty of machines, there's more than enough offered and things to do. They have flowers around the entrance, which gives it that club feeling. The staff is nice. The only real complaint is the members talking on their phones in the workout area despite the signs saying not to, kind of arrogant group but maybe that's the entitled type who would join a nice establishment like this. The yoga classes with Amy on Tuesday nights are the BEST! Love the pool and jacuzzi (very rarely it’s out for maintenance but that’s a pain). Friendly staff.

The staff were very polite. Was there for a group outing and when the food was over, they made sure I got some as I was a little late. Has a huge swimming pool, Zipline and rope challenge course. Zipline is funny because you need to climb the tree using a tiny ladder. The effort put into climb is not worth the experience esp. after having food. More...

Thoreau was a big piece of my life and always a great fun and healthy experience. I was a member for 20 years and experienced many great people there. I've been ill, but I hope to get back to tennis some time soon. A couple years ago, a friend sold children's picture books of hers there and many of you loved her books. What can I say....my family LOVES this place. My son is an active member of the Tennis, so much so that my husband and I had to learn to play! It is now one of our favorite things to do as a couple. If you don't see us on the courts you will definitely see us by the gorgeous pools! Whether we are enjoying their seasonal parties out by Juliana's grill, grilling hot dogs for the kids on additional well kept grills or performing my flip of the day off the diving board- Thoreau has everything for every age. The Group Fitness classes are my personal favorite! The Director has brought on a staff that are safe, fun and always up to date with the latest in group exercise. I try to take a different class every day whether its Cycle, Yoga with weights or the amazing team that teach Blast. The entire staff here have truly become friends! More...

Well maintained, long running, sports and gym club in Acton, MA. Staff seemed to be generally friendly and helpful and the tennis courts, which I used are well maintained and stocked with tennis balls, pickers, etc. Tennis courts do have bubbles for winter play. More...

Thoreau Club is a well run fitness center that is more than a gym. There are numerous workout options that help me stay motivated including spinning, barre, and yoga. Just like other clubs, you can pay additional for personal training, but you get a training session when you join which I found helpful.Oh - and they have WI-FI now - which I'm so excited about. I visited this club today as a guest. It was so clean and we spent the afternoon in their pools. It's a very nice area for families to hang out all day, food, games, grass area, lots of pools and very helpful friendly staff and respectful patrons. I recently joined the Thoreau Club and I'm so glad I did!This isn't like other clubs I've belonged to in the past, no mug shot ID card, the staff at the front desk actually knows your name as you walk in, imagine that! It's the little things like that which really add up here.The view of the trees and pools out the window as your working out is so much more appealing than the walls or the standard parking lot view you get at most places.The class schedule is convenient and I've never had to wait to use a treadmill, etc (and you don't have to sign up either!).The staff and members are all very pleasant and it's a very comfortable place to work out. It's a bit more than a standard gym, but not by much, and the extra you pay is well worth it! More...
