This is my favorite luxury hotel on the beach in the South County area. I have been coming here since the early days and I have also decorated events here for corporate clients and provided entertainment as well. This is a beautiful property with a nice staff that is very accommodating. More...

Really beautiful spot to visit, even if you’re not staying. Been a few times to grab a coffee or a snack and take in the amazing views! The hotel really is beautiful, set across different levels with random pockets offering different vibes. Something here for everyone. The views are some of the best in the area so really worth a visit. Not pretentious at all considering we’ve not been hotel guests any time we’ve visited. Service has always been friendly, and the valet parking is helpful and validated, even when buying just a coffee. Also be sure to check out ‘yappy hour’ if you’re into dogs..that was an amazing experience to stumble across, couldn’t recommend it enough. More...

The beach attendant are very reliable too. They will help you to set up chairs with umbrella n very knowledgeable about the ocean safety too.  Rooms are standard but super clean with high quality furniture. Really wants to go back again !!! Loved the breathtakingly beautiful grounds and the fact that property directly connected to Salt Creek Beach, unbelievable sunset. Didn't love high parking and resort fees ($50 each) or super crowded valet area. Room was ok, not terribly impressive and no noise privacy between the room and bathroom. Gym was too small for property and very crowded. If you have a choice between the two, Santa Barbara Ritz Carlton has similarly stunning scenery, but much nicer rooms and a large fitness center. My husband and I took a mini getaway fifteen minutes away from home. The second we walked into the hotel, we were greeted with smiles, champagne and water. All the staff was extremely friendly. The hotel was gorgeous. We spent the afternoon walking around the property and sitting on some chairs that overlooked the ocean. So calm and peaceful. The ambiance of the hotel was wonderful. The Christmas decorations, the live Christmas music in the bar, the gingerbread houses- very festive and inviting. We enjoyed a meal and some drinks and went back to our room to enjoy the coastal view. Next morning we took a Long Beach walk and were thrilled to have a late checkout of 2pm. We lounged in the room (a definite luxury since we have four young kids at home) and squeezed in a nap on the comfortable bed. Overall, ten out of ten. We loved our stay and can not wait to go back! This Ritz is very pretty - mostly due to the location perched on the side of the cliff where the hotel's main dining windows overlook the sea and surfers. I had an upgraded room with a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean and a fire pit attached. In the room was a s'mores kit for nighttime s'mores making and balloons with some lovely chocolate shells and a note from the manager welcoming me to the hotel. A nice and personalized touch from RC they do at all their locations. The inside of the hotel is freezing, as it is open air and coastal, so it was a brisk 50-60 degrees everywhere, including in the dining spaces. I'm always cold so this was uncomfortable for me. It is an easy walk to the beach and they have some surf and swim items available for daily use and rent. Parking is Valet only at $50 a night with in and out privileges. Valet staff were very welcoming and friendly, they were fast and always offered cold drinks and directions. Check-in was smooth and the staff were all exceedingly polished and professional. Service at breakfast was hit or miss - one day was excellent and the other was very cold and lukewarm by a non-friendly female waitress. We enjoyed a fancy dinner at Raya one night for date night and dined in town and explored the following day. You can easily drive 20-30 minutes and explore the coast in either direction here and it was a short drive from San Diego for the weekend. There is a large and well-stocked gift shop in this hotel as well. The concierge desk gave us two free entrance tickets to the nearby Mission San Juan Capistrano and it was the highlight of the weekend for me. I adored touring the old mission and seeing the ruins. A nice hotel - cold - and a bit overpriced in some areas - but gorgeous and elegant. More...

While I would argue that The Montage in Laguna Beach holds the crown for luxury resorts in Orange County, the Ritz-Carlton is still among the top destination resorts in Southern California. ||The pros: fantastic, cliff-top views; excellent and (relatively) reasonably-priced dining options; dog friendly; the best views from any fitness center I’ve seen; friendly staff; and spacious, comfortable rooms. ||The cons: dated bathrooms; no minibar; fitness center is crowded during peak times; and maid service that is efficient, but (judging from all the carts we continually had to dodge in the hallways) could hardly be described as unobtrusive. ||If you are traveling with kids, there is plenty to keep them busy, although I think the Hyatt Regency in Huntington Beach is the most family-friendly resort on the coast. Also, the distance from major attractions like Disneyland may be a con for some. ||Overall, the Ritz-Carlton remains a great option, but just falls short of five stars, at least for me. ||||| More...

I agree with other reviewers that the hotel rooms are a bit dated - especially the mirrored bathrooms. It would be very difficult to remove the 90s from this property because that decade was designed into this hotel. The rooms are also very small. I also booked the AAA rate, which was a significant savings, and they made me show my card even though I had to enter my AAA card number to book. A property like this shouldn’t do that, as if I’m scamming them with AAA discount fraud. The Ritz is a luxury property - you are above that. But, now that the bad stuff is over, the property is remarkable. As a Bonvoy Ambassador (then Titanium) member, I wasn’t able to use a certificate for Club level access, but they did upgrade me to a terrific ocean front fireplace room. It’s pricey, but I wouldn’t do any other room. The views are amazing. The service is friendly, and the location is terrific. The people there are great and casual, and they made us feel welcome. Best of all, they made our dogs feel welcome. We did a staycation over thanksgiving to hang out with a close friend who had lost her husband a year ago, and we wanted to be near her for Thanksgiving. The only problem - she loves the surf and sand in laguna. That hotel is in an even better location, but I’m not a fan of that property for the price. So, I decided to stay down the road at the Ritz. I’ve stayed at the Monarch before when it was a St. Regis and didn’t love that property either. This property has a great location, and it’s right on a great network of paved trails if you are a runner. ||This is my second favorite beachside property in So Cal. My favorite is Terenea in Palos Verdes because they built the pools alongside ocean bluffs. This property has internal pools that don’t take advantage of the hotel’s amazing location. ||If you are a Christmas person, this property is for you. They really did great things to make it very “Christmasy.” But, the thing that meant the most to me about the stay was from a person who sent an email a few days before my stay. I had booked a garden room. The email said that the hotel is often full, so the person asked me to state my preferred room. I explained the reason for us coming, and she got us the upgrade to the room that meant so much to our friend, Karen. She came down from the surf and sand, with her dogs, and she hung out for 2 hours on the patio by the fire. So, thanks Ritz, for letting us spend that special time with a special friend. ||Kids and dogs were everywhere. It really is a special place for the holidays. More...

This property is very beautiful, Michael in the reception is extremely polite, kind and willing to help. I was offered an upgrade and whole check-in process is smooth. It's very unfortunate that I checked-in very late so I missed the astonishing sunset Michael said. Room is large with a partial view of the ocean, but I couldn't find a USB outlet to charge my phone and I happen to forget packing my iPhone charger. I went to the reception to borrow a charger (which I do in every hotel without any problem),  however the reception said the only option is to purchase a charger in the Gift shop. That is a real bummer. I'm sure hotel of this size has many chargers that guests left behind and should have no problem lend the charger to the customer. I do not want to get a charger that I will only use once in an overpriced gift shop. The next day I had breakfast in the on-site restaurant (Raya) and the view is amazing as well as the food. The only thing I found not great is the charge for parking and resort fee. On a cold December day, I feel I do not get the value of the resort fee since it's too cold to enjoy the pool area and poolside service, also I don't see any Ritz guest spend time on the beach that day also. The valet parking is also overpriced considering we paid $50 for resort fee and the room rate. More...

Staying at the Ritz is staying in another era. Compared to the very modern styled hotel from where we just came, the Ritz is a throw back to the||luxury of the chateau. Its public spaces, like the lobbies, are vast, enough to convene a banquet by themselves, and very elegant in materials. ||||The staff are trained precisely to understand what their responsibilities are toward guests. You sense that when you ask the valet to retrieve your car that they’re way ahead of you. There is ice water there already. The car is waiting for you, and the AC is on. They greet you by your name. Mercy!||||This hotel is perched high on a cliff edge overlooking a splendid flat crescent of light coloured sand. The waves wash ashore looking for all the world like some mermaid’s lace hem. Its bliss. Dock chairs line the edge if you just want to veg. (We call them Muskoka chairs in Ontario). On our balcony there was a fire table to enjoy when the sun sets. Talk about serendipity...||||You can troop down to the beach and easily get those steps in. If you are brave, you can rent a wetsuit and learn to surf. Caveat: you have to disclose your height and weight to the concierge.||||So it’s all bliss. However, I found the food in one of the eating places there annoying. Forgive me. An open faced burger piled with finely sliced greens has to be eaten with a knife and fork on a plate that’s too small. Messy. And I hate cold toast that won’t melt||butter. What’s the point of that? And nearly every dish has the ubiquitous chipotle zap somewhere in it. I would have enjoyed the fab fries if I hadn’t had to extinguish the forest fire level heat in the ketchup. Provide your guest with a warning, please. The service is very, very good, otherwise. Your wish is their command and the staff are good at anticipating what you need next. ||||I found the concierge very helpful with good suggestions and a very detailed knowledge of the area. ||||You must pay heed, by the way, to the helicopters that patrol the water. While there, a guest who was kayaking was advised by loud hailer that they must return to shore as soon as possible because of sharks observed nearby. He was too far out. Nothing happened. The guest was fine. The tons of surfers and other kayakers there were fine too. They were acting on the side of safety. Its the ocean, after all. More...
