I cannot believe the improvements we have seen in Maggie’s behavior with one 6 week course, Impulse Control. We have taken other basic training courses elsewhere, but this class, which is focused on redirecting behavior, really made all the difference for Maggie and our family. She is a different dog for sure!

When we adopted Inky in July I knew he needed training. When we arrived at Inky’s first class he needed to be separated from the rest of the class because he was so nervous. We just wrapped up Inky’s 2nd round of training class last night and he is a completely different dog! With Carol’s help guidance and love of training, Inky has been such a pleasure to work with. We can’t thank you for all of your wonderful tips and tricks! More...

Carol was wonderful in helping us with our dog Bodhi who struggles with his reactivity. Carol walked us through what was going on with him, why it was happening, and tangible steps to take to help him. We would recommend Carol to anyone who needs assistance with their pup; she was a pleasure to work with! More...

When I brought my dog to her first class, she couldn't even be in the room with other dogs/people. 3 months later, and our final class of Reactive Rover, and I had her walking through a public place with other dogs, calm as could be. Carol has a wonderful approach, a personal touch, and is such a wealth of knowledge. We look forward to continuing classes with her! More...

Carol is wonderful! I am currently taking her puppy class with my sweet 11 week old Golden Retriever. She learned to sit in her first class and enjoyed socializing with the other pups. This time is so important for pups to socialize. Carol is a trusted resource who has taken the time via both phone and email whenever I've had questions. I am so grateful for both her kindness and her expertise. More...

My dog and I have been working with Carol for 3 different classes now and she is absolutely amazing! My dog is a high energy, excited 1 year old lab who currently suffers from separation anxiety. We recently moved to a busy neighborhood and I have seen great improvement in walking past other dogs, jumping, and accepting greets. We are even able to go out to brunch/dinner in the city with our dog without a problem! Carol is very well educated in training and handling any kind of dog, which is very comforting when you feel like training can be overwhelming. Thanks to Carol's great tools and tips, I have been able to handle my dog in just about every situation we have been in thus far. Training with Carol has definitely improved our quality of life and strengthened our bond. We plan to continue training all the way through Canine Good Citizenship. More...

I worked with Carol in one private session in my home which changed our lives. My daughter when moving back home also brought a little Pit Bull puppy around 10 weeks old and oh my he melted my heart.
His cuteness was unbelivable!! Puppy kisses galore and sweet pitty smiles. However he grow into a young teenager and was "bullish". Jumping, nipping (with those needle puppy teeth), pushing, tearing through the house. Jumpingboff furniture.
I no longer thought he was adorable or maybe it was his teen behavior. I was ready to give him up. I was giving up on him ever being "a good boy". He had other health issues and discussed with our vet other alternatives for him. I had heard "stories" about this breed. .. But, i wanted to try some training. I thought that it must be us and he needs our help. I frantically looked up different trainers and techniques and came across Carol. Possitive reinforcement. I called . She answered and was at our house that very night after hearing all about our frustrations. She shared information with us that literally changed everything!!! It was our behavior that needed to change and we did and Chase changed his as well. He need boundries and rules and to work and have a purpose. He became the very sweetest, loving, sensitive dog ive ever owed. In the passed ive had labs. I love them but Chase he was amazingly intuitive and loving. I now have anouther sweet little pitty pup and we are definitely training with Carol.. The Right Steps with Carol worked for our family and our sweet furry friend, Chase!! Making that phone call was by far the best thing I have ever done!! Thank you Carol. . Xo

We have worked with Carol to train both of our dogs. Sari, our first dog, worked with Carol through beginner, intermediate, advanced, and click-a-trick classes. Carol's expertise led to Sari getting her K-9 Good Citizen certification. Our most recent addition, Ruby, has been more challenging. Carol has helped us work through many difficult behaviors. We have worked with Carol in our home as well as in a classroom setting. She has also always been willing to offer advice and suggestions when we have reached out to her in "emergency situations!" We recommend Carol and The Right Steps to everyone! More...

We were searching for a local dog trainer to work with our pup. Mocha is a 1 year cocker spaniel who was in need of some basic training, and we were lucky enough to find Carol. We just finished the beginner class, and will be signing up for the intermediate class. The classes are small, affordable, fun, educational, and we saw changes in Mocha's behavior after the first class. It is also a great way to meet other dog lovers in the community. Highly highly recommend Carol and her staff at "The Right Steps" for all your dog training needs. More...

What do you love most about your job?
I love working with dogs and teaching their humans. As a former secondary education teacher, I understand how people learn as well as how canines learn. Training can make the difference in keeping a dog in a home. Most dogs are surrendered for bad behavior and many families don't realize that they are adolescents and help is available. The most gratifying part of my business is knowing that I have help a dog and his family through training and behavior modification. My techniques are positive and reward based: no pain or fear ever.
What inspired you to start your own business?
My father owned his own family business so I grew up in a family supported by small business. I have trained successfully for other large pet businesses and wanted to be on my own, establishing my own curriculum, implementing my own methods and ideals. By keeping my business small, I know that I can afford one on one time with every student in every class. I know that clients private or in classes are receiving the best possible training and care.
Why should our clients choose you?
I graduated with honors from the Animal Behavior College in 2007 and have 10 years of formal training experience. I attend educational seminars annually to stay abreast of the latest methods and to hone my skills. I have achieved the highest credentials for a trainer and love what I do. I take my work very seriously and am responsible about who I can help, referring those I can't to Veternarian Behaviorists.
