I wanted to stay in Pittsburgh with my husband and parents for Christmas Eve and Christmas morning to start a new tradition for our family. It's a tall order to find a place open then not to mention one that is charming and does something special for the holidays. I combed dozens of reviews for many many places before I settled on The Parador. I am so glad we stayed here! To address the negative reviews as they had initially concerned me- don't be worried! Ed was delightful. He has put his heart and soul into making The Parador a one of a kind and exceptionally beautiful atmosphere. Treat it and Ed with respect- keep in mind you are not staying in a chain hotel- and there will be absolutely no problems. Ed went out of his way to make sure we had an excellent stay. Breakfast was delicious; he had discount tickets we were able to purchase for our trip to Phipps Conservatory for the holiday light and flower show; and he regaled us with stories about the area, house, and items within. Ed even let us stay longer on Christmas in front of the tree to exchange gifts. It was the perfect atmosphere for a delightful family tradition. I highly recommend staying here! More...

The Inn is an ideal location for a visit to Pittsburgh. The T, restaraunts, Aviary, Heinz Field, Pirate's stadium, water walk path, Science Center, City Book Store, Rail Trail to DC and Mr. Roger's statue are a short walk. The Inn is beautifully restored, and it's decorated with a Carribean flare. The rooms are large and clean, and we love the fireplaces. Breakfast is delicious and plentiful.Ed is a hospitable host and shares his wealth of information of things to do and see. Many times he has discounted tickets to local venues, too. Ed's two Labs are the most well behaved pets I have met. They always bring a smile to our face when they stop in to say hello. Our most enjoyable visits are at the holidays for the anual light up Friday, which is just before Thanksgiving. The Inn is decorated for the holidays in all it's splendor. We highly recommend the Parador Inn if you are visiting Pittsburgh. More...

This was our third time staying at the Parador and as usual, we were extremely satisfied with our experience therein. We stayed in the carriage house room, Bromeliad, and brought our 2 French bulldogs,  Lola and Matilda, along for the weekend adventure. The Bromeliad is, as far as we know, the only room that is pet friendly as long as you let Ed know in advance. As far as accommodations for the dogs, well, they were top notch- a fenced in courtyard with plenty of birds and squirrels abound make for very happy dogs. There is also a convenient pooper scooper located right outside the entrance to your room with a waste recepticle nearby. The room itself was simple yet beautifully appointed with a very large bathroom, bed and seating area wirh an awesome daybed in front of a huge tv. We loved the paint scheme and felt the room was super cozy and comfy.  Breakfast as usual was top notch as Ed used a new quiche recipe that was fantastic. We will definitely stay at the Parador everytime we come to Pittsburgh as it in a central location, has off street parking, a great host, and in our experience,  have felt a family like vibe with the other guests, especially at breakfast where they have always been pleasant and sociable. This place is unique and elegant. It gives you a Victorian era feel with art deco colors in the bathroom. The owner Ed is a first-rate, first-class individual and a stand up guy. One of his many talents including his hospitality, charisma, knowledge of history, and Love for Pittsburgh is his culinary arts training and the amazing breakfast's he makes with his signature multi-tiered fruit yogurt parfaits. This place is just up the hill from Heinz Field in a safe neighborhood. Ed treats you like family when you arrive. He is humble and super down-to-earth with a quick wit and great sense of humor. So here's the deal - I actually write a column for bed and breakfasts for the past 28 years. Full disclosure: I have stayed overnight at likely 300 plus B & B's for that column. The Parador is one of them. I get paid to write a column. So why go back when you can go somewhere else for free? In all of the years I've been writing this column, I have returned to only 3. THREE. This is one of those three. And I don't write reviews on Trip Advisor unless I have returned on my dime. So why do I return here? (Been here three times now) The place reeks of history. That's cool - but I've been in tons of place with as much history. Breakfast is good - but I've had lots of good breakfasts. (Ed always has three courses - a yogurt with fruit, home baked bread and a hot entree. If you leave hungry it's your own dang fault. ) For the age of the property the rooms are nicely done with this fun Caribean theme. His housekeepers do an admirable job cleaning nine rooms - and do they miss stuff now and then - sure - but if you tell Ed, it is fixed immediately. The location is perfect for me - it is literally walking distance to PNC park -I came in for two games this year. Every room has one dedicated parking spot. So that's a great convenience, not to mention saves ya the headache and cost of parking near the park. But I mostly come back because quite frankly I just really like the innkeeper. Of the three places I return to on my dime - for each one it is the innkeeper and the location. (I mean WALKING distance to PNC park - but also lots of other cool places to visit nearby). So if you are visiting Pittsburgh's North Side this is a great place to land. Ed will welcome you but not hover. He let's you alone. He assumes you are smart enough to ask questions. Does not hammer you with lists of 'this is what you can't do' and offers a brand of hospitality that I personally love. Looking forward to the 2020 MLB season. More...
