What makes a great website?
The purpose of a website is to impart information of some sort. The purpose of a business is to make money. Otherwise why would you be in business? The purpose of a business website is exactly the same. To do that you need to make it attractive, straightforward and easy to navigate. It should attract potential customers and educate them about your product. Some webmasters seem to think the more activity and dazzle the better. I differ in my thinking. It needs to make those potential clients of yours know that they need your product, so that they can't live without it. And you can't do that if you make your website so annoying that they're eager to go somewhere else. That's the type of website we create at The Oggie Web.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
Do you already have a website? What do you want to do with your new website? If you have a product to sell, what kind of product is it? Will you be selling your product directly from the website (ecommerce)? How extensive do you want the website to be?
What do you love most about your job?
I love the creative process involved; every website is different and requires different skills. I learn new thing from every website I develop. But most of all I enjoy working with my clients and making them more successful.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Several years ago local business people told me that they needed a presence on the internet, but the prices they were quoted were way out of reach. When they told me the prices they had been quoted, I was astounded and decided to see what I could do for them. After looking into the market and the process involved to develop a website, I came to the conclusion that I could do a better job for them than they could get elsewhere at much less expensive price and keep myself busy and pretty much out of trouble at the same time. Thus was The Oggie Web born.
