I visited The Norbert for the first time this passed Saturday night. The location in downtown West Bend is perfect and seems to be a busy spot for the locals. Though we went for dinner at 7 on a Saturday, there was plenty of seating that we did not have to wait for a table. The menu is diverse with a variety of flavors - there is enough options to satisfy any eater. We decided to try 3 plates between two people. The Pear, Brie & Honey Flat Bread, the Coconut Shrimp and the Roasted Brussel Sprouts. My favorite item was the shrimp. I enjoyed that it came with a coconut curry rice and it was all cooked well. The flat bread was simple, but tasty. I did not love that the brussel sprouts were so soft and were a bit strong on the garlic//onion. The service was spot on. Very attentive waitstaff that was friendly and accommodating. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The restaurant itself was really cute. There are tables to accommodate groups of all sizes and a large bar if you are simply on a mission for craft cocktails. Overall - this was a wonderful tapas experience and I would return. More...

Tapas and small plates. The menu changes daily, but it's always delicious, creative, and well balanced. The Lobster Mac is super delicious because it's soooo rich but it's balanced with a nice crunch from the topping. For four people we order 5 plates, and two desserts. We like to mix it up between fish and farm. We also like the cocktails off the menu. The last two times we came we spent around $140. Well worth the trip to West Bend. The inside is very nice, you can by the art off the wall. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. More...

Overall great experience, however service was rather slow for some reason.  My wife and I stopped in without a reservation around 5:45 on Thursday.  We were seated at the bar for about 5 minutes before a table opened up so we were pleased up til that point.  From there on however it was slow going.  It took about 10 minutes to have our waitress stop over once we were seated, so by then we just placed our order. The food came out rather quickly.  We ordered a few different types of tacos (since it was taco night), lobster mac and cheese, miso mushrooms, and the salmon dish.  The fish and avocado tacos were delicious, and we both really enjoyed the lobster mac.  I think we'd order that every time we visit.  The salmon was delicious as well and the sauce on the zucchini (came with the salmon) was amazing.  I thought the mushroom dish was decent, but my wife loved it.  After that it took awhile to get the bill and took awhile to get it back.  Our waitress was very nice and attentive to our drinks, it just was a bit slow when it came to ordering our food and getting our bill.  Overall a very good experience.  The fact that it's in West Bend allows us to have a little taste of the Milwaukee small plate restaurant style without traveling downtown.  We will for sure be back someday. Probably more of a 3.5For restaurant ambiance and service they definitely get an A. It was definitely a nice place to sit and enjoy the company of good friends in that it was well-appointed and reasonably refined while remaining quite accessible. The food is definitely good, though so of it fell into the category of trying to be creative and kind of missing the mark, and some of it fell into the category of seemingly pandering to foodie trends. I think they can get away with this because there really aren't many other places in the area doing a tapas menu, let alone exercising much culinary creativity. For the price tag though, it is a little bothersome to get a dish you feel like you've probably had and/or that is trying too hard. That in mind, the small plates format does open up a restaurant to criticism because you try so many things that you are bound to try some you don't like. Nonetheless it was good food, I will probably be back since they rotate the menu enough to make return trips worthwhile and because the food was good enough that I would be interested in trying more. We love eating here! We've yet to have bad food, everything is always made to order and brought out as it is ready (as is the style of the restaurant). Food tastes fresh and the variety on the menu is great! They always have a few things on there that never change, which is nice, but it's fun trying some of the new things as well! This is one of our go to restaurants in West Bend. The only downside is some nights they have a band play, and with it being such a small space, it can get very loud, to the point you almost can't hear each other across the table. My first experience at The Norbert was phenomenal. The interior of the restaurant felt nostalgic and well decorated to perfection. The staff was very nice and attentive with the menu selection. Every day the menu changes which is very creative and interesting. Tuesdays they have a special deal buy 2 meals and get one free. I bought the Korean Fried Chicken which I rated 4 stars for taste, texture and presentation, the Lobster Mac which I rated 5 stars for rich flavor and intriguing bowl design, and finally the Fish Tacos which I rated 4 stars for taste, design and presentation as well. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who likes trying new places with a variety of food selections. One thing I would change is to expand the building for fit enough people at the bar and tables. More...

There were several vegetarian options and one vegan option on the menu. Moving on, we ordered almost every item on the menu and each was wonderful. The fish tacos are the best we've ever had (there were 7 of us at the table). The roasted corn salsa was so flavorful- we would have ordered that all by itself. I just wish it came with more than two scallops. You MUST order the Brussels sprouts and the tuna tartare- both were excellent.I hesitate to recommend this restaurant because I'm afraid I'll never be able to get a table once word gets out!Complaints? My Father in Law suggested this place and felt so strongly about it that he even bought us a gift card to try it out.  I am glad we did. Who knew this awesome place is in West Bend and has been for some time now.  We invited some friends to join and we simply had a blast. The food was awesome, we ordered 8 items off the menu and several drinks. For me the drink left a little to be desired. The Maple Manhattan didn't seem to have much maple flavor. Maybe that's to be expected but I was hoping for a touch more. The service was great, we were well taken care of and our water glasses remained full. It's weird but I do gauge my reviews on the details like water glasses.  I gave it four stars and not five because of the live music. I am not a live music in a restaurant fan because it tends to be too loud and you can't really converse. This was the case the night we went. Good music but we were yelling at each other. When the band took a break you can notice the crowd was loud but then everything went to a more normal conversation level until the band started back up. Also, keep in mind that the concept here is shared small plates. Even though we ordered everything at once, things came out sporadically. It worked for us since we were not in a rush and enjoying ourselves, but I can see where people will have a real issue with this if you don't understand the concept. If you haven't, you must go check this out. We are exploring West Bend more but if there are more restaurants like this out there, we are pretty excited to see what we can find. More...

The Norbert is easily the best place in town, but it's also my wife's and my favorite restaurant, hands down.  The food, mostly small plates, is incredible: easy to share, but also great if you're on your own. You don't get this quality of food at many restaurants, especially in West Bend. The food, however, is only part of the reason we love it. The real reason? The service. The owner, Tony, and his staff are ridiculously accommodating; any "issues" we've ever had have been met with more than adequate and very timely solutions. They're amazing here. Even though the menu changes frequently our waiter was knowledgeable on every dish being served. They did have a two-person band playing the night that we went and it was a bit loud and we couldn't really hear each other because the place was small but the band was good. My husband and I recently went to The Norbert (specifically July 8th) for a nice cocktail. It was my husbands birthday and he wanted a nice cocktail before heading to the downtown scene.  It was a last minute decision and when we got inside, and it was clearly closing time. No one was at the bar and maybe two tables were sitting, clearly wrapping up and getting ready to leave. The bartender was the only visible employee and gave us the MOST impeccable service. Not only did he let me try some samples of their craft beers to help me make a selection, he also gave me an extra sample of his favorite and took his time to let me decide. Then, when my husband got up to go to the bathroom, I wanted to surprise him with nice tequila (his favorite). When I asked what tequilas they had, the bartender not only took each individual tequila off the shelf to present them to me, he went through a history of tequila with me, gave personal recommendations, and ended up winning me over on two $10 shots of tequila. BEST tequila I've ever had, best closing time service I've ever had, and was beyond impressed.
