On Friday, my daughter graduated from ASU with a degree in sociology, and as part of the celebration, she suggested we eat at The Local. The Local attracts an eclectic group of people, from the haut monde (if Boone has one), to college students, to everything in between. I am told, however, that on many days, as evening draws nigh, tables are pushed aside, and the mild mannered restaurant by day becomes a rockin' hangout for the college kids at night.That's not exactly my scene any more, so I will stick with the lunch crowd.Brussels sprouts: They call them "The Best Brussels Sprouts Ever", and they were indeed outstanding. They are sliced down the middle (through the stem), pan fried, and tossed in a "secret sauce". The pan frying seems to remove much of the bitterness commonly associated with brussels sprouts, and they have a scorch/char on them that is delightful. She-crab soup: Excellent, creamy, beautiful, perfectNa'an Traditional Cuban: that it most certainly is. But it is no less delicious. Slow roasted pulled pork, bacon, Swiss, and pickles on na'an bread. The pulled pork was moist and delicious, the bacon crispy and tasty, and it all came together beautifully. Cole slaw: this is the only thing I was not impressed with--strips of red cabbage in a base I just didn't care for.  I should have ordered fries--the ones I stole from my daughter were very good!Sweet tea: outstanding--a magnificent blend of bold tea flavor with just the right amount of sugar--very sweet but not enough to cause your pancreas to sue you for separate maintenance.Tofu "wings": my daughter had these, and said they were great. I will take her word for it.The service was excellent. Our server was friendly, energetic, accommodating, and kept our glasses filled--and we were thirsty!I found the prices to be fairly reasonable.Beautiful ambience and atmosphere--lots of wood.Definitely worth a visit if you are in Boone. Our party of 6 adults went on a Saturday night after an APP State event. Busy place but the Hostess was nice and got us in after a drink at the Bar. They did tell us they were closing at 10pm for a Reserved Party. The Waitress was nice but struggled a bit keeping up. As we approached 10pm, we kept getting looks from Manager & other Staff but we were just waiting on the Waitress for our bill & then paying out. Only reason I gave 4 vs 5 stars. Slow Service. The drinks were great and a few specialty that I had not seen as of yet. Nice style. We had a few appetizers. Brussel Sprouts & Cheese something. The Local has really upped their game in regards to food since the last time I was there 8 months ago. They've always fantastic service. My father is a diplomat from the Middle East m who currently serves in our capitol, Washington DC. Here at the local, Jason, the bartender, is the most respectful and understanding bartender in Boone. He belongs at a rooftop bar in DC.

The food here is amazing. We came in at the end of a music set, and loved that they even had music. We had just come into town from Northern VA and we're starving. This is our GO TO when we are visiting for the weekend. The staff is amazing, food is delicious and the drinks are great!  We normally come here at least twice in one weekend when we visit . Dog friendly spot, with a covered outdoor area which has heaters for when it's chilly. The menu has so many great options, never had something we didn't like. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! More...

Staff was super friendly and the menu had a lot of gluten free options that all sounded delicious (and our waitress, Maddie, was mindful enough to let me know that the fryer wasn't dedicated). I had the fig and bacon grilled cheese on GF bread. I asked for extra fig preserves for dipping and they were happy to oblige. My husband enjoyed his pizza (the one with apples, bacon, cheese, onions, and honey). He ordered the 12in pie, since that crust is made in house and the flatbread isn't. The only bad part of our visit was I had an issue with my glass having someone else's lipstick on it...Maddie was just as mortified as I was and she couldn't apologize enough. Cool spot. Steak & Frites were ok, not great. Steak lacked seasoning, fries lacked truffle and parm flavor. Based on food alone it was a 3 star experience.
