This is by far the best massage place I have been to in the greater DC area. I always ask for WILLIAM as he is by far the best. He always asks if I am comfortable and if he is massaging to soft or too hard. He has the strongest hands in DC which is why I go to him!Everyone who works there is so cordial and nice and respectful and they do such an outstanding job. Do not come here for any service.It was awful. There's a lot that needs improvement. My boyfriend booked a couple's massage for my birthday. We were asked to sit in a room then a guy came in and mumbled something and gestured for us to follow him. While we were undressing the guy barged in while my breast were exposed and didn't leave out. I got on the table just to cover myself and he stood there. My boyfriend's Massage started 10 mins after mine and the receptionist who is also the owner and masseuse came and started pounding on his back. They walked in and out of the room constantly making it a struggle to relax. It was cold in the room. The massage was rushed and abrasive. My boyfreinds massage was cut short and we weren't allowed to get dressed in private. She knocked on the door and barged in as if we were stealing. She saw I hadn't pulled my dress up yet and left the door wide open. During scheduling she said that they only take cash then she badgered him for a tip and got mad when he said no. This place is a scam. There was no shred of professionalism. It was more like a back alley boom boom room. I was scared they were going to ask if we wanted a happy ending. No licenses posted. Terrible birthday gift and my body hurts more than it did before I arrived. They will bang and pound you to death. No tip! Because the serviced sucked. Owner please don't respond with the smart mouth comments that I've read on other reviews do better. Take some classes and treat your clients like you appreciate them. Lastly, get your credit card machine fixed because the reviews all say you request cash because the machine is down. My next call is to the IRS, health department and to see if you're even credentialed. AWFUL GO ELSEWHERE PLEASE. SPEND YOUR MONEY WHERE IT'S DESERVED AND APPRECIATED. If you like painful massages then this is the spot for you! Not even sure I could call this a massage more like paying someone to jab their elbow into your back. Update: I think they did something, because now when I walk there is a painful feeling on my lower back... If I could give negative stars I would...I also suspect they are trying to evade paying taxes, they told me "cash only", then when I said I had only my card they said "there is a $3 extra charge". The worst fraudulent business I've ever been too. Booked a couples massage for my girlfriend and myself. Was asked to bring cash only so I couldn't reverse the payment . Our couples massage started at different times ( mine) being delayed. It was also shorter than the charged time. My girlfriends back was burned and bruised from the aggressive masseuse. My technician barely massaged my skin. They kept opening the door leaving in and out l. The room was ice cold. Then I was harassed for a tip! Do not come here!! My husband and I have visited this wonderful establishment twice while on our honeymoon! We have endured a tremendous about of walking to see such beautiful history. And our poor feet are paying for it. Our first experience was so wonderful we called back 2 days later and got in that afternoon, just as we did the first time. They are so friendly and make you feel at home and relaxed. They truly know their skill and care about the work they do. Being in beautiful Old Town of Alexandria just adds to the “old time” feel and makes it all the better for it. We will be so sad when we get back home because you will be too far from Florida! This place is awesome - I highly recommend it. I've had a few 90 minute massages with hot stones from William and a few 60 minute prenatal massages with hot stones from Lala and both were excellent each time I have gone. Both William and Lala are incredibly good at what they do and are very professional. I love this place because the prices are reasonable and they usually have good availability if you call a few days ahead vs waiting weeks at other places for an appointment. If you are looking for a Four Seasons type spa day experience this is not the place as I view it more as a minimal frills establishment that is very clean, affordable, and has free parking as an added plus! I've had many massages at high end spas and Hot Stone is absolutely on my top list for massages in Old Town, Alexandria. In fact I'll be be going back next week for another massage with Lala! The massage itself was EXCELLENT. A bit rushed at the end but glad more time was spent on my back where I really needed it. I left Massage Envy because the quality is inconsistent and it's hard to schedule. A great price for the quality. Got a bottled water, and some candies. Got the appointment locked in and didn't have to wait a whole week for the appointment.I found out after the massage there's a $3 surcharge for credit cards. In VA it is illegal to have a credit card surcharge after the service is completed. The charge is clearly marked at the register (legal) but I was directed away from the register, right into the room and told the price. At this point I still wasn't informed of the surcharge. No intake sheet for injuries/allergies, no male/female preference.I was still very happy and willing to overlook the issues..until I gave a tip and the masseuse scoffed at me. He wanted the full 20%. I don't know what his thought process was, but no one's entitled to a tip. Rising tip prices are just a way for service industries to get around paying employees living wages. And if he wants more money, his employer should just increase the cost of the service. $100+ is the norm in DC anyway. Tell us the full cost upfront, be upfront. Pay your people what they deserve so they can keep up the quality. Have a steady stream of customers and you won't have to schedule appointments at 830-930pm. More...

My husband got me a gift certificate for a hot stone massage and facial, and I am so glad he did! Both services were excellent, I'm only sorry I didn't get either of their names to recommend them here. My massage was thorough, the pressure was perfect, and the masseuse was attentive to my reactions, easing up if he felt me tense up at any point. The place was clean and I never felt uncomfortable or exposed (other reviewers have noted the door opened or cracked but I didn't experience that).A couple things I will note: the place is small and the walls are thin, so you may hear people talking in the reception area, and maybe even traffic outside. The staff also use timers to track their massages, and you will definitely hear those go off. None of those things affected the quality of my massage, but if you're looking for that otherworldly experience where nothing in the universe exists except you, some soothing music, and a pair of hands, you likely won't find it here. I had a prenatal massage here and it was not good. It was basically a glorified rub down. I asked for more pressure and I got a little more pressure when I asked but then it just went back to lotioning my body. No attention was paid to my neck, front shoulders/collar bone, or feet. Before the massage was even finished she asked me if I was paying with cash or credit card and what tip. I wasn't going to leave a review but when I was finally dressed and paying the lady pressured me to give more money during my tip, not once but twice. I ignored the first time. After the second time I finally said no I will give X number of dollars. She then told me there was a $3 fee to pay with credit card. This was not listed anywhere in the venue. CRITICAL:Where do I even begin!!!!The receptionist  pressured me repeatedly to bring cash and reminded me 3 times to bring cash which was very odd to me. She didn't even give me a chance to speak!! I'm not sure if they are not reporting their income to the IRS or using this tactic to avoid paying payroll taxes but I should be able to pay and tip with my credit card as I do everywhere else I shop. The receptionist never inquired about the type of massage or if I preferred a male or female therapist. So of course I get there and there are 5 men standing around in all black unable to communicate with me in English and staring at me like I didn't belong there. I asked for a female therapist and was pressured to allow a male therapist instead to massage me, then was later told that a female therapist was in route. 35 minutes later she came in and she was clearly very frustrated and told me this was my mistake for not asking the receptionist to have a female masseuse provide my service. I explained to her that I was unable to get a word in as I felt rushed trying to make the appointment. This was an incredibly uncomfortable experience. She then SHOVED HER ELBOW IN MY NECK AND PROCEEDED TO PLACE HER FULL BODY WEIGHT ON MY BACK AND SHOULDERS. I explained to her that this was too much pressure and she responded saying (You said deep tissue and this is deep tissue) I was never asked if I wanted deep tissue and was so stunned I couldn't even respond. I actually can't believe I business like this is able to operate in Northern Virginia in 2022.THIS WAS THE MOST NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE IVE I'VE EVER HAD IN MY Life!!!!I paid and was immediately pressured to tip while the therapist explained that they really depend on tips because the owner either doesn't pay them at all or under pays them. I hope the poor people who work there are able to find jobs that they can actually perform. Nothing against the staff personally, much like the rest of the working public they are just trying to make it, but these men and ONE woman clearly have had ZERO PROFESSIONAL TRAINING in this field.I'm sure this review will be buried by fake reviews soon or disputed and possibly deleted. Too bad there's no button here for ZERO stars. This was not a good experience I'm saddened to say. The manager (or woman who speaks English to customers) is abrasive and careless with her words. I simply cannot ignore her VERY POOR customer service because it was just so blatantly horrible. In addition, it was difficult to communicate with the technician due to the language barrier. This made it challenging to provide directions during the service. I was never asked about the type of massage, nor the pressure which was way too much for me. I hand-signaled and nearly hollered due to the PAIN, and I have a high threshold but this experience was simply over-the-top. My squirming and obvious discomfort did not seem to get the technician's attention which was unusual since I was clearly in PAIN! The technicians do not appear to be skilled at all. It's three days later and I'm still in PAIN and now I need to call a chiropractor.I also tried to communicate an area of my back that needed more focus, but the technician did not understand English, and the woman who spoke English was not in the room to translate. When she did come into the room she seemed rushed and irritated and perhaps that is why she was SO RUDE. Bottom line, I will never go back again since this experience was neither beneficial nor relaxing. Well...today was the first time I received a real massage. I had been looking for a massage parlor that gave actual massages (i. e., drop down to your underwear; basically booty naked, and lay face down as the masseuse rubs oil down your back and legs). I had a reserved a time for my friend and I to receive massages and we were immediately pointed to the room and told to get undressed to our "shorts." We did not know anything about shorts so we undressed to our underwear which did not seem to be a problem at all. After being given some time to undress and lay down, both masseuses entered and performed our requested 60 minute Swedish massage.WHEN I TELL YOU THAT THE LADY DID HER THANG ON MY BODY! She worked out kinks, cracked joints, and massage my muscles with just the right amount of pressure. I truly enjoyed it and I felt really good afterwards. During the massage, she did ask if I wanted to do a hot stone massage for $10 extra in polite tone which I politely declined at the time, but that will be the next massage I get for sure. My friend's masseuse asked if she was okay several times and they both just had really great service as well. The room was nice, the towels smelled clean, and there was paper on the beds for sanitary purposes. When we were done, they did spray down both beds clean them which was reassuring to see. Overall, this was a great time, very relaxing, had great service, and was reasonably priced (probably the most affordable I had seen during my research of massage parlors to go for a massage). I will definitely be returning for more services.*Please note that they have free parking in the back of the building. You can park in the reserved spots that say 1004 which are right in front of the building. Since I had a difficult time finding how to enter the parking lot, I am going to try to help you all out. If you use a GPS and it says that that the establishment is on the left, you are to take the light at the building and turn left. The entrance to the parking lot is an IMMEDIATE left turn. It can be quick to miss, so please pay attention. If you are prone to missing details, allow time for that and try to arrive somewhat early as traffic can get bad depending on your appointment time. This is my second time here and I swore I would not come back. The massage is great but their way of doing business is despicable! The first time I was pressured into leaving more tip than I was going to. The second time, once again they ask "how much tip?", not "would you like to tip?"..TIPPING is NOT mandatory, it is an honor based on the service. You do NOT force a customer to tip. And when a client tells you how much they want to tip..who the hell ar3e you to tell them tip more? Furthermore, when the amount was what they wanted, they proceeded to tell me how much I should tip! WHAT IN THE ENTIRE HELL?! All benefits of the good massage are erased when having to deal with their bullying business tactics. Oh and not to mention they charge you $3 to use your credit card! Lala is amazing. She finds all of the sore (and sometimes painful) spots and spends time getting them to loosen up. I went in for a Swedish massage but she recommended a medical massage to help me with my "too tight" back. She worked wonders in two sessions and I can already feel the benefits. If you're looking for a place to get a nice, relaxing massage, DO NOT come here. I arrived 15 min before my scheduled massage & there was nobody at the front desk. Then a masseuse came out of a clients room(never introduced herself) & literally asked was I here for a facial, which I replied "no I have an appointment for a massage". Then she took me into a room & took over 15 minutes to come in my room. The sheets were dingy, old, and had stains. I asked for a new one. The massage itself was terrible. I couldn't relax & kept complaining that she was hurting me & pressing on my spine & squeezing the life out of the back of my neck so many times!! The only time I fully relaxed was when she was doing my arms, then proceeded to start slapping the living crap out my back! When I was laying on my back, she didn't use any lotion AT ALL for my legs! She just kept the towel/sheet over my legs & massaged me for about 10 min, then when her timer was up she said "ALL FINISHED" & walked out.She kept "cracking" the door instead of closing it fully when she left the room to get hot stones etc multiple times, which was DIRECTLY across from the waiting room. I've received massages at multiple establishments in the area, but Hot Stone Alexandria has been the most thorough of any I've received (maybe outside a sports medicine masseuse).  My wife recommended them after I was starting to lose sleep over a pinched nerve in my arm, and not only did they loosen my entire shoulder and released the pain, they found and released other knots I had no idea I had.It isn't the fanciest, but its clean and has a relaxing atmosphere.  I've never had issues scheduling an appointment, and have been getting massages there for over 6 months now.  They do tend to be efficient in getting me into a room, but listen well, observe and adjust to minimize discomfort while maximizing therapy, and are very polite.  Definitely worth it for a thorough deep tissue massage. This place is absolute trash.  First off, they are as horrible as all of the bad reviews posted about them.  The owner of this place is a bald face liar and nothing is more frustrating than to come into an establishment looking for a relaxing massage only to be met with a liar who runs the place. When I walked through their front door it was hotter than it was outside (it was in the high 90's yesterday).  Apparently the lying owner was too cheap to turn on the a/c and claimed it was broken...I'll give her a pass on that lie except I had to ask for a fan to be brought in the room where I was to get my massage because the temperature in there was blazing hot.  I should have turned around and walked out at that very moment and gone where real professionals work.  I immediately started perspiring when I was getting undressed.  Due to the hour of the evening I stuck with the massage that I had booked for which was a 90 minute full body massage.  I got a phone call from the owner yesterday morning confirming as such and I also got an email and text confirmation as well.  Once I'm on the table beginning the massage the woman conducting the massage says, "you're here for a 60 minute massage right."  I said no, I booked for 90 minutes.  She goes out front to talk to the liar who's the manager and then comes back in the room and says, "well the manager said you only booked for 60 minutes."  I told her no, that that's untrue and that I had read the reviews before coming in and wondered if I would be confronted with issues with them...sigh.  I should have known.Well the massage itself was absolutely terrible.  I asked for light pressure and had to keep reminding her as such.  She spent the majority of the 60 minutes on one side of my back so both sides weren't evenly worked on.  By the time the timer went off for the 60 minutes she hadn't even gotten to the front of my body yet so she hurriedly had me turn over and basically just rubbed the rest of my body with the sheet covering me...no massage oil, no attention to each part of my body, etc.  This was an awful experience.  So when I came out front to pay I told her to get the manager because I wanted to speak to the liar directly. I confronted her, the manager, about the fact that I had booked and been confirmed for 90 minutes.  She lied, of course, and said that there was a computer glitch in their system which changed the booking to 60 minutes.  I showed her the text message and email confirmation and told her she should have honored what I was booked and confirmed for.  How disgusting of her to use such an elementary excuse and not do her due diligence to provide good honest customer service.  Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this trashy place.The furniture in the room where they do foot massages is very old, dingy and stained as if it's seeped full of mold.  The head rests look worn and unclean in there too. Poor customer service, a terrible massage and a liar for a "manager".  I've had to book another massage elsewhere today to do the job that this dump of a place couldn't get done correctly yesterday. I used to love this massage place, but I've now had many inconveniences with them. The worst being when I sent my husband for an hour massage for his birthday, and they made him wait for half an hour on the table before giving him a rushed 30 minute massage instead. He said he felt too uncomfortable to complain. We took a break from them for awhile because we got berated for paying with a credit card, so now we're probably done permanently. It's such a shame because we were going a couple times a month and feeling good with the results, but it's gotten too hectic. More...

Today was my third massage with LaLa,  and I highly recommend her to all of you out there looking for a great massage therapist.  I have  been getting medical massages from her and find that she is both knowledgeable and caring , and a real expert in her work.  She relieved the shoulder pain I was experiencing and seemed to have a real knack for identifying and working on knotted up problem areas. All for a quite reasonable rate!  I have a larger , more muscular physique but she had both the strength and the techniques to properly address all of the problem areas.  LaLa is the best! More...

As others have posted, I got scolded for not giving more tip. Apparently my tip (20%) was not enough, and the masseuse asked for a bigger tip for the massage. Note to the business: Tipping is optional in the US. On top of that, if someone leaves a 20% tip, which is more than polite, you should never scold the customer for not leaving more. Actually, you should never scold customers for not leaving a larger tip. The massage was good. 5 stars for the massage, 1 star for the customer service and rudeness of the staff. Will not be back.
