THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE MOST DELICIOUS GUMBO IN LAFAYETTE!!!I first heard about it on a YouTube video and decided to come here when I was in town- & I was NOT disappointed at all. The service was okay, could have been better. Perhaps it was because the server was pretty new and wasn't as knowledgeable but it was not great & it was not terrible. Most of the other servers weren't smiling or as welcoming. The gumbo, however, was to die for! The food really topped it off for me. My boyfriend grew up in Louisiana and is a fabulous cook so he knew how to make gumbo. But the gumbo at The French Press was filled with seasonings straight from Louisiana and was just uber Delicious! The place itself had an antique look and an old vibe to it but it was an open space and had a lot of natural lighting. The old pictures on the wall and the rustic tables made it look super nice as well! The only thing I was not a fan of was the water to be quite honest. It had such a terrible taste for me. I didn't complain about it though because I didn't care that much about it. Is the water in Louisiana different or something?! Ah- if you come here and end up not liking the water like me....the orange juice is a pretty great alternative haha! More...

It's been awhile since we've had the opportunity to visit our favorite Lafayette brunch restaurant. Playing hooky on a week day is the best time to catch this spot without a wait. For starters, we shared a Sweet Baby Breesus and ordered a couple of cocktails, because you can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning. The Sweet Baby Breesus is a sweet and savory flavor bomb comprised of a biscuit stuffed with a fried boudin ball, bacon, and Steen's syrup. It never disappoints and today was no exception. For beverages, my hubby had the Stag O Lee, a bourbon, mint, Grand Marnier, and mint concoction. I had a The Grand - a mimosa with Grand Marnier. For entrees, he enjoyed the Croque Madame with truffle fries. The sandwich is piled high with the traditional ham and cheese filling, with the lovely addition of tomatoes, then drenched in a bechamel redundant with buttery richness. The French fries are twice fried and all that I love in a brasserie style fry.The Cajun Benedict is an over the top creation that starts with a base of French bread slices which are then topped with boudin, American cheese, and poached eggs. The whole glorious mess rests in a pool of some of the richest, most flavorful chicken and sausage gumbo I've ever tasted. The only weak point of our meal today was that the eggs were a bit overcooked. The atmosphere at The French Press is fantastic. The old printing press building retains much of its original charm. The service at The French Press can sometimes be hit or miss. Today was a hit, with James being attentive but not overbearing. We will return! More...

So we tried this spot for a Sunday brunch..BEFORE the rush. Got there around 9:30 and there wasn't a big wait. They have a variety of mimosas if y'all are into that. A buddy of ours got the French press coffee and it was neat having a French press at French press haha. Okay to the food- truffle fries were A1. Frog legs taste like mini chicken. And the Cajun Benedict. Straight . Super powerful taste. But overall amazing. My homegirl got the chicken and waffles and that also looked really good. Try it out y'all. More...

My friend and I had a nice lunch here on a Friday. It was not crowded; I guess weekdays are the time to come. Our waitress was very efficient and quick which I appreciated. I had the praline bacon pancake and a side of gumbo, a strange combination but I wanted to try both. I really enjoyed my pancake - it was one of the best I've had in a while. The gumbo was just ok - it could have used a little more spice. The ambiance is really nice here. I will definitely check it out again. More...

I've visited the French Press several times while visiting Lafayette and have never been disappointed. Being from South Carolina, I've had my share of wonderful southern dishes with regional flare but I have to say that Chef Justin would rival the best Charleston chefs. His version of shrimp and grits with a tomato base rather than tasso gravy was unbelievable. I've tried many menu items and have been beyond pleased with each selection. There is a reason this restaurant usually has a wait for seating but the food is oh so worth the wait!! Ask for James to be your server if you can. He is awesome! More...

Stopped in on a recommendation from my friend who used to live in Lafayette. It was about 10:00 on Wednesday morning and they had quite a rush. I sat at the bar and was promptly greeted by Kristine.  Although they were uncharacteristically busy, she was very attentive. The Cajun Benedict was full of flavor and served piping hot. The eggs were poached perfectly which really made the dish. Their drip coffee is excellent and they brew it fresh as needed so you don't get that burnt taste you get with a lot of drip coffees. This place has some serious charm and all of the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend stopping in if you have the time. More...

Gumbo that taste like gumbo!  ...Oh, you need me to tell you more?  Sure the site sits at an old printing press and firehouse and the architecture seems uniquely restored and the servers are extremely friendly. I think Lafayette translates into Go Eat At The French Press?  Have a burger War with your mouth against a 1/2 pounder?  Try some Hot Cakes with Honey?  ...Like I said before, GUMBO! More...

This place is incredible.  The food was so surprising and absolutely delicious.  We both ordered the Cajun Benedict.  What arrived was very different from what I expected, but I was so glad because it wowed me! The wait to get a table at 10:30 o a Thursday morning was not bad at all.  Interestingly, the day we were there a lot of teens from the local private Catholic school showed up, but there was no interruption to our service and the food was so good I'm not sure we would have noticed an interruption anyway!  Absolutely worth the stop on the trip from NOLA back to Austin! OMG...where to begin?!?!  This place is a great hidden gem. My friend have been talking about going here for weeks and we finally made that happen.  I looked at the menu a few days before going but that didn't prepare me for what the food looked like up close and personal (mouth is watering as I type). This place is a perfect place for catching a quick brunch or just casually hanging out. We walked in and grabbed a table.  I was looking around while the waiters were delivering food to patrons.  I didn't know what to order.  I saw this homemade fries cover with an egg over easy.  My eyes had seen glory!  I tried to refocus my eyes back to the menu so I could find something.  The waitress walked up and asked what we wanted to eat.  My friend asked if I wanted a mimosa and I was like SURE! Didn't realize there was different kinds, this girl was hooked! So, I went ahead and ordered the breakfast sandwich with goat cheese and my friend ordered the chicken and waffles.  That darn sandwich with that goat cheese was EVERYTHING!!! I started taking small bites to savor every bit of that sandwich.  His chicken and waffles was out of this world. I don't like Steens Syrup, but gosh darn it, I loved it that day.  I will be back to bring my family because, they have to try this wonderful gem I was introduced to. More...

Unfortunately, they do not take reservations-no big deal as the hostess on the phone advised to get here directly when they open and there'd be no wait. Advice taken, however as some other reviews pointed out the food does take some time to come out. A friend & I tried a few things; cocktails are a little over priced but I'm not an expert in that area so. I tried the praline bacon and he had the truffle fries. Both were really good however for the portion on bacon (2 slices), $5.50 is a bit much. Again, because the main dishes take some time to come out get yourself an app to enjoy. For our main dishes he had an omelette on special - again for the portion $16 seems high. I had the Cajun Benedict. Really good - reasonably priced maybe if they'd throw it over grits instead of bread it'd be even better? I'd probably come back to try some other things. Also, the service was great! Plenty of staff to keep your coffee flowing. More...

Found this, like all other restaurants we go to, on Yelp. Mixed reviews did not stop us from exploring and we were not disappointed. Waitress was attentive and friendly. She also worked well with us for a few menu subs. Older building inside and out but warm and inviting coffee shop once inside. Ordered the French toast and granola. Granola was yummy and is house-made. Swapped out yogurt for milk on the granola and added a fruit cup. Delic! French toast was amazing, especially with the addition of toasted pecans (see photo). Great way to start a day of sightseeing in Lafayette. Highly recommended and will return here again. More...

Quaint and unique. The menu is unique and the food was amazing! As each order came to its table I felt order regret “oh, I should’ve ordered that! ” In true French style, be prepared for a long dining experience. Not sure if that’s by design or accident, just something to consider if you’re in a time crunch or impatient. It’s a dining experience not a Waffle House! Enjoy! More...

This is an unusual place with a very different menu with lots of twists on local foods. We love to take out of town guest here because if the uniqueness. Everything we have tried has been good and friends rave. Particular favorites were the cheese grits, to die for, and the Sweet Baby Breezes. But those who had the gumbo biscuit and the chicken and waffles thought that was the best.  The French toast was more like a decadent dessert. Service is slow even from the bar. Most times excruciatingly slow. Crowds are big and the place is small. Plus they often do not utilize all the tables or seat 2 people at a table for 8. The wait times of 15 maybe minutes shown in this website are not even close. Go early and plan to wait. It's worth it but be forewarned. When it says average time here 2 hours that's  after seating.
