Perfect place. Low price, very delicious, even better than many expensive restaurants. I am satisfied with most of the dishes even by random choice.

I couldn't really go all the way to Hawaii and not try some local fare now could I? The easy answer is, of course not! My friend arrived a few days before I had and had scoped out this local shop but hadn't been yet. So before our trek to Volcanoes National Park, he picked up some breakfast.I was beyond excited. We were getting musubi. I thought it'd just be spam musubi, but he ended up getting an assortment. The place is in a mini strip mall near the hotel we were staying at, so easily accessible. The slightly sad news was that they weren't open Sat & Sun and we were hoping for one last treat from them. (Hint: they were super delicious...thus their other food must be equally delicious)The food:spam musubi - delicious, not friedkatsu musubi - delicious and still crunchyume musubi - just a small piece of pickled plum (complete with pit) in the middle. I would recommend cutting it in half and spreading out the umemac salad - just like potato salad with macaronis, it was goodTLDR: got the food to go (delivered to me) it is a MUST try. It was really good and can't wait to come by and try some of their other stuff. More...

Okazuya is my favorite kind of food to eat because you get to try so many different things! We flew into Kona and decided to pay a visit to the Feeding Leaf which is about 10 minutes from the airport and right next to Umeke's. You can grab and go, or there's lots of seating if you want to eat in. You pay by the item and here's what I got for around $12:-Noodles: Wonderful. As I ate them in the car it made me wish I had gotten a double order.-Korean fried chicken: Amazing flavor and the perfect crispiness. Again, wish I had gotten a double order.-Corned beef hash patty: Not amazing, very ordinary. I'd pass on this one next time.-Ume musubi: I was really disappointed by this musubi because the rice was super mushy when I bit into it.-Cone sushi: Not as bad as the musubi, but beware that the flavor is very vinegary. Still worth visiting just for the noodles and that bomb.com Korean fried chicken. Hopefully musubi won't be mushy next time. Woman working the counter was really nice and there's lots of free parking. More...

Found this place on yelp because I wanted to get a good bento for the flight home.  But also decided to have breakfast too.  Had the egg breakfast with spam, potatoes and toast, very fresh and reasonable at $8.50 plus free coffee!!! Loved it.  For the bento, just picked out miscellaneous stuff like the Ume musubi, dollar sized hamburger patty, shoyu hot dog, shrimp tempura and fried chicken.  I really liked everything except the tempura was just ok but kind of expected that being that tempura really is best eaten hot out of the fryer. Anyway highly recommend, the ladies that work here are super nice definitely have the aloha spirit. More...

This place is so cute and home-y feeling. The owner was very kind and helpful. We came for breakfast and to buy a to-go lunch. They have dine-in breakfast options and all day bento and onigiri to-go options. You could also order the to-go bento dishes and onigiri to eat there. The atmosphere was charming and everyone was so kind. The chicken and waffles were amazing! The fried rice omelette was also really good. The Saimin was a bit salty for our taste but consistent with other saimin we've tried. More...

We stopped here at the end of our family vacation earlier this month. We ended up trying a few different Japanese delis (okazuya) on this trip and they were all delicious. The Feeding Leaf was no exception. I enjoyed the teri hamburger, shrimp tempura, ume musubi, pickled cucumber, and more. We all shared a tasty strawberry guri-guri cake for dessert. Everything was fresh and home-made. Run by a very nice and friendly couple. They have pre-made boxes to go, or you can make your own. I recommend picking up a meal if you going to the airport - these are great at room temperature, compact, and affordable. (And way better than the Kona airport restaurant!) More...

I rarely do a review but I need to comment on this restaurant. Kona really needed an Okazuya and this one does not disappoint! From walking into the inviting restaurant and chatting with the friendly, gracious workers it feels like you're walking into a family home. Now the food... I cannot even describe in words. It is truly like your own Ohana's (family) cooking. Everything we ate (and we bought almost everything they had) was amazing! The best chow funn I have ever had! Sadly I am unable to enjoy Feeding Leaf much (dietary restrictions and trying not to eat much in the morning), however I can't recommend this place enough. How in the world there are only a small handful of reviews is beyond me. Kona was/is in dire need of okazuyas, so I was so excited when Feeding Leaf opened. They have a really great selection of okazuya, really good onigiri (rice balls), and a great rotating selection of other local favorites. For locals, this should be a solid go-to for bentos. For tourists, this should be a must stop, for a perfect way to try a number of local foods all in one go. Feeding Leaf is the only okazuya in Kona that I know of, I'm happy it's here. Also happy that it's delicious, as it is much much better than the supermarkets offerings of their version of okazuya. More...

Had some amazing food catered by The Feeding Leaf last night at a wedding. Service was good, food was great!Pupus - mushroom bruschetta: delicious, fresh, unique- poke: fish was soft but not mushy. Flavored were on point.- pipikaula kim chee: I really liked this one. The cucumbers and pipikaula together with the sauce really made the dish.Dinner- wedge salad: typical wedge salad, but with feta cheese, avocado chunks, and shrimp. Miso dressing bright everything together. I actually went back for seconds!- warabi salad: great flavors with warabi, tomato, lots of dried shrimp. If anything, I thought it was a little salty, but I got seconds.- braised short rib: this dish was the real star. The shortribs were boneless, tender but held their shape and not mushy. Loved the watercress on top that picked up some for he flavor of the sauce and cut some of the fat.- Chinese style steamed fish: hebi (I think) holds its shape for catering. Topped with ginger slices and cilantro. A little dry, but still good.- Korean chicken: I can think of very few people in Hawaii who would complain about Korean fried chicken. These were boneless and delicious!Service: Service was very good. Workers were really nice, and the owner made conversation and shared about his storefront too. I gotta go try the okazu now. I highly recommend the catering! More...
