Jess has worked with my two dogs on and off for over 8 years. Her knowledge, patience with dogs, and continued education are all factors in our dogs’ success. Now in their elderly state, there’s no one else we would trust to board them. Knowing our pup(s) are in her care helps us to truly relax when on vacation! The Family Fido is a very professional and compassionate family oriented training and boarding facility. I’ve seen Jessica do wonders with a number of pups and dogs. The dogs love it there and are so excited to work with her. Her animal behavioral expertise shows through at her home training facility as well as her in home consults. In addition she has taken in pups/dogs that don’t have another option, loves and trains them and successfully places them with the right family, after taking the time to work with them too. The Family Fido is amazing!! Jessica and her staff do an amazing job! Great communication and even better care of our dog than I could have hoped for! He had been previously boarded at a different facility and came home sad and depressed, so I was hesitant to board him again, until I found The Family Fido!! They took terrific care of him for the week and I can’t say enough about how much I appreciate their care and compassion for my dog. I would highly recommend them! My husband and I hired Jessica to be our personal dog attendant for out wedding! For anyone who is nervous thinking their dog might be too unruly to take part of their wedding, trust me you can do it! It meant so much to me to have our dog a part of that day and Jessica was great along the way. We spent time together leading up to the wedding where she recommended a few things to work on before the day, and for our dog to get more used to her. I felt totally comfortable with our dog (who is more like our child) being with Jessica; transported from our place to the venue, there for the ceremony, and then transported back home. Our highly reactive 9 ½ year old dog, Yazzy, wasn’t adjusting very well to the addition of a new pup to our family. We were expecting there to be some conflict during her adjustment period and were prepared for it, but we were not prepared for Yaz to pound this pup with a daily barrage of attacks. Nor were we prepared for the unpredictability of it. Any time one of us came into the house, Yaz went after the new puppy. After trying to work through it on our own, we realized we were over our heads and consulted our vet He suggested we contact Jessica Smidt at The Family Fido. Jessica was prompt in returning our call. She LISTENED while we described what was going on. She expressed concern with not only Yazzy, but also our pup, and what it could be doing to her, and the potential for someone to get caught in the middle of one of Yazzy's charges at the puppy. A home visit was scheduled.Jess spent several hours at our home interacting with the dogs. She asked many questions about their behaviors, the new puppy’s excitement level, and what was happening before Yaz would attack her. Throughout our conversation she gave us positive feedback and encouragement that filled us with hope that we could get through this. It wasn’t going to be a simple fix, but there was hope. What a relief. The next day we received an email from Jess with “The Plan” (that’s what we call it). Jess’s suggestions for behavior modification was written in a way that was easy for us to understand and it’s easy for us to follow. It also gave us better insight into Yazzy’s body language and ways we could help both her and our new puppy learn to relax around each other. As we work on our home behavior modification training, we have noticed the old Yaz is coming back to us. She’s starting to act like herself again. Both she and our new family member seem to be more relaxed around one another. Things are looking good. Yes, there is hope.
