Simply delicious lunch place with an Australian twist. the Cookery helps disadvantaged local youth and developed from a local church and mission. They train employees in the culinary arts and they apparently trained them well. We had the Smokey Southwestern Chicken Salad which was spring mix covered with Chile grilled chicken pieces, black beans, corn, bits of pineapple and a great drizzle of poblano sauce, with house made flour tortilla chips. We also had the chicken curry Aussie pie which was excellent, better than most British versions I've had. The place is comfortable and homey, has upbeat music playing and your waitress has an Aussie accent. What more could you want? Perhaps a full array of coffee and coffee drinks and delectable desserts like bourbon pecan pie, peanut butter & jelly cheesecake, or raw carrot cake or muffins.... More...

This was such a fun, cozy little place to visit! I got a Front Porch hot tea with the Down Under Wonder Blunder burger with a side of toast and Vegemite. Each artery of my cholesterol-filled heart was calling its name. The tea was pretty good, I thought. Nothing special obviously. It's just a bag of steeped tea. I was pretty excited about the Vegemite, since I've had it a couple times before and one of the very select few of people who actually like it. I was expecting it to be already on the toast, which I'm partially glad it wasn't because it can be very overwhelmingly strong. It came with 2 slices of toast cut in half and 2 thin packets of Vegemite, which was the perfect amount for me. The burger was marvellous. It had a surprisingly thick patty with lettuce, tomato, onion, chipotle mayo, bacon, and a big runny egg on top. For my side, I got the fries with it, and let me tell you, these spuddy buddies were HUGE. The dipping sauce that came with them were addicting. Not sure what it was, but it was sorta vinegary and savory, almost like a non-spicy buffalo sauce. Make a trip here sometime. You won't regret it. The people are nice, the atmosphere is great, andthe food is delicious. More...

My wife and I went here the last time I was in Nashville about a week ago. It was the first time for me but she had been before. I probably would have never been had it not been for her making the suggestion. We went at breakfast and I can say it was nothing less than fabulous! I got the breakfast bowl and it looks small but it’s deep so it ends up being a ton of food and very delicious. It was a combination of potatoes, eggs, grilled onions and lightly drizzled with a flavorful sauce. The prices were also very reasonable and the atmosphere was very quaint. In doing this review, I just found out they are a non-profit that helps the homeless in Nashville and helps former homeless students to be trained in the culinary industry to find jobs in the same industry throughout Nashville. This makes me love them even more. The next time you are in Nashville, don’t miss this little gem and help support this wonderful ministry! More...

Really great service and wonderful food. The wait staff was especially attentive and professional. My chicken salad was perfect with a hint of curry just barely tasting it. Good place for lunch. Light meals. My spinach dip was absolute tasteful with the light chips. Shrimp and fish tacos had a good peppered taste. Â The tacos was pretty much a salad then a taco. Eat some salad to get to your tacos. Which was fine with me. The only thing that most likely needs work is the macaroni and cheese. Needs some flavor. Other than the Mac and cheese I love the scenery, the rustic look, people, and food. Thank you. More...

On Twelfth Avenue South sits a small, nondescript building with a big heart. Its a restaurant, the Cookery, the physical presence of Lambscroft Ministries, a group dedicated to helping the homeless. Our church group went there & liked it, so my wife and I tried it for lunch ourselves. Our appetizer was the Cookery Crab Dip. The cajun spices enhanced flavor of the crab. That and my fav, Alfredo sauce, made this a killer appetizer. I used my house-made tortilla chips to scoop it up and leave not a drop. For lunch, I chose the Aussie Style meat Pie. The upper of the crust was crispy and tasty and the base part, short crust pastry, didn't crumble like most pot pies. The beef inside was hot and overflowing. One thing. Long ago, I abandoned health and chose taste instead. So, I'd have added more salt to the Aussie meat pie. My dessert was The Lamington, a traditional Australian dessert. I really liked it and will order it the next time we're here. Now to rate the Cookery. The crab dip appetizer and the purpose of this restaurant rate five stars. The Aussie meat pie rates high, but the lack of seasoning drops it way down to four stars along with the Lamington. Four stars for the Cookery. More...

The Cookery is food with heart. This establishment is part of Lambscroft Ministries, which give back to the homeless community in Nashville. For a reasonably priced breakfast or lunch you know you are supporting a great cause. I came here with my mom for lunch and we both enjoyed this experience. The Cookery is an inviting cafe-style restaurant serving up Australian food. Although I was not quite sure what Australian food is seems like a mixture of British and American cuisines. The menu has a mixture of breakfast (I wouldn't touch that Vegemite Toast with a 10 foot pole though) and lunch including burgers, sandwiches and baked potatoes loaded with toppings. I got a Southern Style Chicken Salad Wrap ($8.50) served with chips and my mom got the Aussie Style Meat Pie ($9.95). We both liked what we got. The space is small but the employees are nice and the food is good. I would definitely return especially because of their mission. I left feeling warm and fuzzy and that is the sort of feeling you don't forget. More...

Pretty relaxing/cozy/family friendly place. First time in Nashville, I was a bit hesitant but it def surprise me. I got the avocado toast with a fried egg on top. It has olive oil and spices, it was excellent. My husband ordered the biscuits with gravy. He said he had better but I couldn't stop picking from his plate. I like the fact the gravy was not thick and dry, it had a light consistency but full of flavor. I like it better than my choice. I would go back, it seems as if they have a band or someone who plays or sings at night. I wish I could have seen that. Maybe on my next trip :) More...

Have you ever been to The Cookery? We stumbled upon this gem of place not too long ago, on our way back to the #RocketCity. Although the food is amazing, this place is so much more. Having opened in 2013, the cookery trains and equips formerly homeless students in culinary techniques and food safety in order to prepare them for employment in Nashville's food industry. Â All revenue from The Cookery goes to cover operating expenses and back into Lambscroft Ministries programs to serve Nashville's homeless. Awesome, right? ...and the foooood. Wow. More...

What a fun little gem. It's been in Nashville for years, but I had my first lunch there and loved the decor, the food options, and the staff. It has some different takes on common menu items, and as someone who takes clients to lunch a lot, I appreciate creativity and good execution!
