Earlier this week I finally made it out to The Chef & The Cook in Baldwinsville. I love the concept of this restaurant as there are two menus incorporated into one to showcase the evolution of a chef. One side of the menu has more comfort foods with familiar ingredients while the other side features more complex dishes.Out of our group of friends, the consensus was that this was one of the best meals we’d had in a very long time! If you are thinking of trying The Chef and The Cook, GET OVER THERE! If you are not thinking about going there, you should be! My wife and I celebrated our anniversary and our experience was just perfect. I would like to mention this is not necessarily a "special occasion" only kind of place. You can come here any day of the week for a casual meal or you could go all out for a special occasion. Regardless of your reason for coming you can expect to notice little special touches that other restaurants just don't offer. We had wine while we waited for our table and it was so good we grabbed another glass with our meals. Pesto mac and cheese was super creamy with perfectly Al dente pasta. I had a mix of East coast and West coast oysters, both freshly shucked and great by themselves, BUT the house hot sauce was a nice change from the traditional Tobasco served at most places. For my entree the scallops were perfectly seared along side crispy pork belly, cauliflower puree, and spicy roasted cauliflower. My wife went for the shrimp and scallop wonton, grilled head on shrimp and a very flavorful broth. Our service was attentive, but never overbearing. As a Syracuse restaurant, it's maybe a 4. The staff was very welcoming. Meals were well timed. The restaurant felt full but not loud. The food was interesting and for some of the dishes were good too. I think their concepts were thoughtful. The execution left something to be desired however. For Syracuse, I was happy I got to try something different. As someone who is used to eating in a major city I was hoping for more. Hosted a surprise birthday party for my husband last night! It was such a fun and unique event that could only have been done with the innovation of the restaurant and staff. All the guests were impressed with the food, atmosphere, and service. It so easy to plan (even with my anxiety of sneaking around to plan this behind his back)! We were really able to make this an event to remember. Allowing the chefs to flexibilty with menu (and to do what they do best) is the only way to go, in my opinion. Goodbye standard "ziti, baked chicken, veg" buffet and hello modern, customized, vision without all the red tape of "packages". The event was chef lead, yet very personal to the tastes of the guest of honor. My Fiancé and I went to The Chef and The Cook last night for a long overdue date night. Best meal and service in ages. The restaurant is charming with great linens and decor, the staff is warm and friendly and very attentive and knowledgeable. On a non rainy night the patio is perfect! The menu. Oh my. So fresh and vibrant and full of amazing flavors and textures. If your looking for a burger and fries with a side of bad attitude this is not the place for you. The Spring Pea & Parmesean dish is so light and satisfying with the most perfect textures paired together. The deconstructed nachos are genius (ask for extra black bean hummus because it’s spectacular) and the Duck Wings.... just get them, trust me. Finish it off with one of their delectable desserts and you won’t be disappointed, I guarantee it!!! My friends and I had a wonderful dining experience at The Chef and The Cook!! We started off sharing duck wings that were delightfully crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. I enjoyed the lobster margarita and the scallops special. Both dishes were out of this world!! I tasted my friend’s steak and it literally melted in my mouth. I was really looking forward to the opening of this place having had Mark and DeAnna's food in the past. My expectations were met and exceeded - everything was delicious! I highly recommend the duck wings and their take on New England clam chowder. I appreciate their commitment to scratch-made, fresh food. They also understand the importance of utilizing local farms' seasonal ingredients; they even have their own little "Chef's garden" right outside. I know when I sit down to a meal created by these talented chefs that I am in for a culinary adventure.
