Boldthouse is small and intimate. It reminds you of dining in someone's house. You are welcomed at the sight of a decent sized outdoor patio and a unique semi indoor seating area. We were immediately greeted by a staff member, and we told them we had an existing reservation. We were seated promptly. The decor is aspiring to be upscale but falls short. I immediately noticed that the tables were not solid and were covered in white tablecloths. The chairs are not comfortable and have no padding. Our server greeted us and brought out water. He said there is a large tap selection, and I was welcome to check it out at the bar. I made my way to the bar, and they have an extensive IPA selection. I am not an IPA drinker but did manage to find a lager I have never heard of and chose it without any hesitation, Deca Loteria was the name! I made my way back. Oh, I did want to mention the bartender was very accommodating and let me sample 2 beers. I went with the HRW selection of chicken and andouille sausage gumbo, crispy coconut shrimp, De Constructed Beef Wellington, and Whiskey Bread Pudding. My wife went with the Cajun Shrimp Pasta and my daughter with the drunken steak tacos w charro beans. My two favorite dishes were the coconut shrimp and Beef Wellington. Shrimp was nice and freshly hot, and my Wellington was perfectly cooked medium! I thought the gumbo was good but didn't have a kick, and I didn't even ask for Tabasco for it. lol.The Roux was also not thick enough. The bread pudding was merely a sample, and it was smaller than most desserts at other concepts. In addition to dining, we tried our hand at Trivia. They have several specials going on different days of the week. I really enjoyed the food here but not the atmosphere and decor. I also feel that tipping should be up to me and not levied an automatic 20% gratuity. Tipping should always be up to the guest, and it is not based on the total with tax. My husband and I really enjoyed ourselves as we were looking for somewhere new to try for date night we were extremely happy with the food we didn't take any pictures but I had the shrimp and mushroom pasta and my husband had the charred salmon we did not leave any food behind it was delicious! Went to the Boldthouse for the first time for Tacos, Taps and Trivia night. So. Much. Fun. Nice selection of beer on tap. Good selection of wines . The shrimp tacos were perfect. Nicely seasoned with the right amount of spice. Huge shrimp. Great service and the trivia game was well run and frankly, a blast. Friend, who tried all three tacos...beef, chicken, and beef, said their favs were the shrimp and beef tacos. The lady who ran the trivia night was fantastic. The place is really nice inside. Nice place! It was a quiet night due to the weather and the place was very nice. We sat with Lexi at the bar and she was a great bartender/server! ! We had ceviche, jalapeño fried chicken, and the shrimp & mushroom spaghetti. All were super tasty. Ceviche was our fave, the house made chips came out warm and fresh. Service was not good. Walked in about 30 minutes from closing and literally just wanted a simple caprese salad and glass of wine but was basically told to leave they were about to close. He didn't even walk over to say it and gave us a dirty look when we sat down. As a person who has had several family members own restaurants this one is definitely a no go. Horrible service & horrible food. This 1 star is very generous. I attended my company Christmas party here last weekend and it started off good the waitstaff was nice and helpful but it went down hill when it was time to order food. EVERYONE of my coworkers orders were incorrect, some plates had items not described on the menu like bacon ( my coworker doesn't eat pork and it wasn't on the menu that it contained pork) , some got orders they didn't even ask for, Â if they asked for a medium well steak it came RAW, if they wanted chips they got fries and to top it off every order came in 2 at a time with a good 15-20min between each order so with 13 guest that was a lot of time waiting... WORST part was I order a SALAD at 7:30pm and by 10:00pm I still DID NOT receive it, like come on it's a SALAD!! I told them to cancel my order because that was unacceptable. Read reviews and figured we could try it. Service was great, drinks never empty. Food - HORRIBLE! Taco plate only had 2 tacos! !! Ordered boozy tacos and spicy shrimp tacos not a lot of meat and no spice! Beans were decent, truffle fries were not truffled, filet sandwich was chewy! This place is really GREAT if you want a quiet couple-date... the music is folksy and subtle. We have been a couple times and it has never been busy. .. only one or two other couples.
